Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Handy Haversack:

Julie, we were tickled to get a card in the mail!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Julie:

Yay! Apologies to K8 for likely using the wrong last name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

This could almost be from the 80s. Hi, Julie and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Handy Haversack:

Ha! No prob, Julie -- that confused us at first, but we were much relieved on opening it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Julie:

Hi Mx Granny! Good to see you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Julie:

I just wanted to make sure to include her! I don't have a premium this year but I did buy a bunch of new cards to send out to my wonderful pledgers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Handy Haversack:

I said it before: all the extra hours of Dark Night that you have been putting in are the best premium we could ask for!

Are you going to do a show from Studio MH at the station during Marathon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

perfect segue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David (in London):

Hello Julie and assembled nocturnal groovers. I've got my ears on.
Handy (again), Sylvia, Granny, Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Julie:

@Handy I am not. I'm gonna stay put (ISH) till I get that second shot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Julie:

hi David! Thanks Granny, I DO try
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Hey there, David (in London)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Handy Haversack:

David, welcome to the dance!

Sounds good, Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Andrew Hollywood:

Hi Julie - thx for the gardening soundtrack :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Julie:

hiya Andrew! What are you growing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Andrew Hollywood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Julie:

hiya HyperDose!
Swag For Life Member 3:25pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Julie:

hiya spodi!!
Avatar 3:26pm HyperDose:

Hey Julie, hope you and everyone else here are having a great day. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Julie:

Even if I'm not music always makes it better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Handy Haversack:

Aloha, spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm David (in London):

Hey Spod.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Julie:

Hi Phillippe!!
Swag For Life Member 3:30pm spodiodi:

Handy, David (in London), Phillippe Bastille ✌️✌️✌️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Julie:

wow this song kinda hits home
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

sup spodi, handy, dil
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm David (in London):

Monsieur Bastille!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Handy Haversack:

Phillippe!

Kate's been invited to play an outdoor LGBTQ punk fest in Maryland someplace. It's outdoors, so we're considering. She's desperate to play a show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Julie:

oooh that's nice! when?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm chris in the redwoods:

this. never. gets. old. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Handy Haversack:

In the summer is all I know, Julie. She's going to start trying to find places upstate with outdoor stuff as well. The city is so awful. The liability and permits needed to participate in the outdoor performance program pretty much guarantee that acts smaller than the Rolling Stones are SOL.

Ahhhhh, happy birthday, Kurt Cobain. So good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Julie:

well I hope to be upstate more in summer! woohhoo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Julie:

Pretty sure this is my favorite nirvana song, but I really only know a few
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Julie:

I GOT A NEW COMPLAINT
Swag For Life Member 3:42pm spodiodi:

i was just singing hole in the shower today. didn't realize it was Kurt Cobain's bday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Handy Haversack:

I don't know that I have any unfavorite Nirvana songs.

If you hear of any venues looking for bands up there, Julie, let us know!
Swag For Life Member 3:42pm spodiodi:

(and i don't even care for hole, at all. weird)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Julie:

I don't know that it's today I think it was this weekend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Phillippe Bastille:

Let us know when that festival gets closer Handy. Cuz we live in Maryland and have a guest room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm David (in London):

Spod, you're a crazy and unpredictable chap to be sure.

Heart-Shaped Box still sounds splendid, too.
Swag For Life Member 3:45pm spodiodi:

i'm wet-wired to the cosmos, DiL "You can't guard me" - Ira K
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Handy Haversack:

Will do, Phillippe!

I vary the lyrics to "I Went to School in Olympia" frequently, spodi. Depending on local contexts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Switchblade Batman:

I just want to know how did Nirvana t-shirts become uniform for gross rednecks on tiktok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm David (in London):

Talk Talk's final album 'Laughing Stock' and Scott's 'Tilt' both came out in the 1990s. Two of my top ten albums of all time I think. So, appropriate and respectful tips o' the hat to that decade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Phillippe Bastille:

That would be great, Handy! My bride is all vaccined up, so she's cracking the door open for company more and more each day.
Swag For Life Member 3:50pm spodiodi:

\m/ Rick Springfield
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Julie:

hi Switchblade Batman!
Swag For Life Member 3:52pm spodiodi:

i don't think i knew Rick Springfield was making music in 1972
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm David (in London):

Rick in big hair and big collars mode. Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm chris in the redwoods:

envious of you folks with your fancy vaccines. gonna be a long wait for me, it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Julie:

sorry chris :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Handy Haversack:

Chris, we could make our own! I have, er, gin ... and scotch. If you could add some science stuff, I feel like we're almost there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm chris in the redwoods:

worth a try, Handy. i'm in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm David (in London):

Handy. I've got some old pear cider and recombinant DNA I can chip in.
  3:57pm ike p:

ooh i know laibach - not this song of course :)
Swag For Life Member 3:57pm spodiodi:

wooo K8 time :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Handy Haversack:

Julie! Kate will be so excited when she gets home from the dentist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm chris in the redwoods:

woo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Julie:

awww the dentist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm David (in London):

Hey hey, Creek & Kills! Nice one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Julie:

tell her she followed Rick springfield and laibach LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Phillippe Bastille:

Oooh! K8's REALLY gonna hate getting that filling now!
  3:59pm ike p:

yeah, they do a cover of one vision that i dig
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Andrew Hollywood:

has anyone read Rick Springfield's novel, Magnificent Vibration?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Stanley:

Hi Julie and everyone.
I used to mock hairstyles like Rick's but..... nowI wish I had such a bouffant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Handy Haversack:

Hopefully a new EP this spring, Julie. You'll be among the first to know!

After more than twenty years with me, I think K8 understands what an honor it is to be on the list with Laibach!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Stanley:

Creek and Kills! Yay for Brooklyn's finest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Julie:

hi Stanley! No! I didn't realize he wrote books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm WaffleMix:

Julie! I like this tune
Swag For Life Member 4:01pm spodiodi:

K8's voice reminds me of a better Natalie Merchant on this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Julie:

hiya Waffle!
Avatar 4:02pm HyperDose:

@Julie @3:27 Don't forget about friendship! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Julie:

@Hyper yes that too!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm David (in London):

Yo Stanloid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Phillippe Bastille:

hey Stanley!
Swag For Life Member 4:03pm spodiodi:

aloha, Stanley
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Stanley:

Sir David. My liege.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Andrew Hollywood:

if you're a Springfield completist, I recommend the book. If not, I don't. It's a quick junky read for a weekend or something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Stanley:

Spodi Muldoon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Julie:

I haven't even finished reading all Dirk Bogarde's books yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Stanley:

Phillippe. Nice to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Stanley:

Hi Handy. I'm looking forward t' EP
Avatar 4:06pm northguineahills:

Jewels is the rules of tools for muse...ic....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Stanley. K8 was just getting super frustrated today about how much longer everything takes during this situation. I think she was hoping they'd have done it by now, but you know, when you can't actually go anyplace ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Julie:

hiya NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Julie:

whoa looks like Tiger got into a bad car accident
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm David (in London):

Julie, I'm with you on that. I remembering sitting in the garden during the summer after my graduation reading 'A Postillion Struck by Lightning'. It was like The Graduate without any Anne Bancroft.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Julie:

I've been thinking I want to read Carrie Fisher's books
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Mike Sin:

That picture of Rick Springfield proves that, during the 1970s, formulation and R&D in the shampoo industry were at their peak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Julie:

well hello Mike Sin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Stanley:

Hear ya, Handy. Not much news from me, I'm afraid. The same ol' is really the same ol' nowadays. Did watch the Zappa doc at the weekend. I enjoyed it but it hardly featured his guitar work. As expected, great archival footage of the early years. Even a uncredited Suzy Creamcheese. You could tell it was her by her voice.
Avatar 4:13pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Greetings. I was shoveling snow off the veranda, and this show served me very well as the soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Julie:

hi there Cha Cha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Julie:

Mike I bet at some point you had that exact hair if not right now
Avatar 4:14pm northguineahills:

Odd, as Tiger's residence is here just in the suburbs of Orlando...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Mike Sin:

Hi Julie! My hair downright sucks right now -- I look like the homicidal maniac from "No Country for Old Men."
Swag For Life Member 4:15pm spodiodi:

this song is a good song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Julie:

Oh dear, Mike, that is indeed scary
Avatar 4:16pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I gotta admit, it's been ages I have heard Cocteau Twins' Peppermint Pig, because I thought for a second "What? Are you playing Musta Paraati?!?" The drum intro on their classic Peilitalossa album is so similar and yes, the drum sound on both is really of its time (the best possible way that is).
Swag For Life Member 4:17pm spodiodi:

my hair is about to begin interfering with my belt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Julie:

I'm loving the length of my hair right now, it's three different colors (for once, not intentionally) but it's not too bad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, we enjoyed it a lot, Stanley. More Ruth! We also watched A Band Called Death a couple of weeks ago. FMU should get that in the On Demand rotation. It's fantastic. Keep tissues in reach.

Mike Sin, when I was sitting next to you and answering phones at the end of *last* Marathon, I thought you were quite dapper! I'm sure a year hasn't Chigurhed you that hard!

Julie, Kate called, and you did indeed brighten her afternoon very much -- which she needed after having a screw put in her jaw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Julie:

aww poor thing. I need to see the Suzi doc I wish we had that at FMU on demand
Avatar 4:19pm HyperDose:

I would classify this as a banger
Swag For Life Member 4:20pm spodiodi:

agree w HyperDose
Swag For Life Member 4:20pm spodiodi:

the Deine Jugend is also promising
Avatar 4:21pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hmmm, I really should revisit A Band Called Death, it does manage to avoid the usual trappings of a rock doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Julie:

eeeee you guys are the best audience
Avatar 4:21pm HyperDose:

I'm going to go ahead and assume you're a fan of Kill Hannah, Julie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm chris in the redwoods:

this set is on fire.

yikes, Handy! sending positive thoughts to K8. apply gin liberally, is my advice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Julie:

I don't know them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Handy Haversack:

Fortunately, that's my medical specialty, Chris!
Swag For Life Member 4:23pm spodiodi:

gin practitioners ftw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Julie:

I go for whiskey myself, should I be heading for Gin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Handy Haversack:

No need to choose between them! There's always time for another round.

Speaking of which ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Stanley:

Handy - best wishes to Kate for it to get better soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm David (in London):

Time for a small libation this end, too. I'd lost track of the time. I should have been drinking hours ago!
Avatar 4:26pm HyperDose:

Kill Hannah's 1993's American Jet Set was probably their most well-known album because it appeared on a few soundtracks, but I don't think it gets better than 2006's Until There's Nothing Left of Us. Get the UK version with the bonus tracks and alternate track listing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Julie:

hahaha

I would not rule it out Handy. It was a record year for RV sales this past year due to covid since they are considered a safe vacation. In 2 or 3 years, people are going to get sick of the keeping them and will start to sell them. They already depreciate crazy fast and they'll only depreciate more when the market gets flooded. That's pretty nice, Scott! There's one parked around the corner from me that someone is rehabbing.

my sister in san antonio wants to buy an RV but she needs to sell her business to do that I think and not a great time for that

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Phillippe Bastille:

Truth to that, Julie. Prices are high now on RVs because of demand, but, like I said, they'll plummet. At least that's my Econ 101 prediction...

Gotta run, thanks for the tunes, Julie. Comment board buds -- thanks for the interesting convos. Been a couple stressful, crappy weeks and I really need this. Goodnight all.

HyperD, bring it it on mate. We may have to crowd fund airfares for some, & wait for open borders. My company in that Kombi was a French woman.

In my Tar @ this moment is an Acid Visions comp. - 3CDs all Texas GaragePsych on the Collectables label. Absolutely indispensable. In vintage Garage Rawk, Texas is a whole gigantic ecosystem of its own - as it is in most every genre thru history...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Julie:

ooooooooooh..any ladies in there?
Avatar 6:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Many one or two fronting a band singing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Handy Haversack:

And let's never forget Texas's Crucifixtorious!
Avatar 6:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

*Maybe. There are. Only...

Avatar 6:45pm northguineahills:

It's odd that the Mozz is huge in Mexico, hence, Mexirrissey....
Avatar 6:45pm northguineahills:

Obvs., in my mind, at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Julie:

aww I don't know him, solo or group?
Avatar 6:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Reading 'Eye Mind' about The Elevators - woke to the term 'Third Coast' for the Texas scene. I have this idea that Music Scenes are quite 'Darwinian' in a Gallapogos kinda sense: they have to be apart enuff to evolve something distinct, but they also have to be large & vital enuff to sustain it. Texas is uniquely qualified. & watching the documentary about Sarge Records - it's made explicit that the idea of Rock'n'Roll birthing spontaneously one particular afternoon @ an intersection in Memphis when Blues & Country collided in the mid1950 is reductive to the degree of being fairly false. In Texas - if you could Dance to it - people accepted it! There was of course Country Swing - but also every combination possible... Buddy Holly for that matter has Mexican influence - & I don't believe anyone says otherwise...
