Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Doug Schulkind:

It beats winter whine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Lewis:

that was excellent!
Avatar 12:05pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Jeff Golick:

Yes, dumplings for everyone! Musical dumplings! Hi, fellow Jeff.
Avatar 12:08pm Jeff Moore:

I should very much like some dumplings, please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Chop Scott:

Good Afternoon Jeff! A real treat to hear you.

Avatar 12:14pm Listening Out There:

Greetings, Uncle Jeff and online Jeffers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm adamdoesit:

Ah, this is where harp meets bear.
Avatar 12:15pm Jeff Moore:

Oh no, dropouts?

I've got the stream playing here, and so far it's behaving for me...
Avatar 12:15pm Jeff Moore:

@adamdoesit... well observed.
  12:15pm Bennett:

hi, Jeff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Phillippe Bastille:

definitely dropouts. Having to pause and restart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Equal parts Bjork, Shirely Temple & Incredible String Band
...which is very high praise...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Doug Schulkind:

I have heard no dropouts and have been listening continuously from the first sweet blast.
Avatar 12:17pm Hubig Pie:

Maybe the streaming pipes are frozen
  12:17pm Bennett:

I find the web popup player is working better than the Android app
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Doug Schulkind:

@Hubig Pie
How are you listening? What device?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Chop Scott:

Popup Radio Rethink stream is fine here.
Avatar 12:19pm Jeff Moore:

Bennett! Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm adamdoesit:

Streming on Sonos via TuneIn here… no dropouts other than, possibly, me.
Avatar 12:20pm Hubig Pie:

El-cheapo android phone via the pop up player. Dropouts been a'happening since this AM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm doctorjazz:

Hi Jeff, lovely start!
I've been Listening through the home page widget on my Android phone, no drop outs or problems here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Doug Schulkind:

There has been general instability across all of WFMU's streams, for some people in some circumstances, since Tuesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Uncle Michael:

Present! (since the top...been putting away groceries)
Avatar 12:25pm Jeff Moore:

Greetings one and all, especially those not yet greeted!
Avatar 12:25pm Roberto:

Mmm tasty bear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Uncle Michael:

Provisions stocked for red beans and rice, pork vindaloo, dolmades, rolled manicotti...just the bear essentials.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm gonna rate this set completely bearable!
Avatar 12:28pm Jeff Moore:

...but yum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Phillippe Bastille:

No honey, UM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Uncle Michael:

It'd just get stuck on my nose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Unbearable Lightness of Feeding
...or maybe heaviness...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Picking and grinning and bearing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Uncle Michael:

If you go into the woods today, you better not go alone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm adamdoesit:

The first time I came face to face with a black bear, the first thought that went through my mind was, "That looks exactly like a bear." Then I jumped about a foot in the air. The bear heard me, looked up, and took off into the night.
Avatar 12:30pm Jeff Moore:

Some hunny would be nice, though.
  12:31pm Helena:

This is the best song in the universe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& 'My Bear to Cross' enters the vocabulary forever...
Avatar 12:32pm Jeff Moore:

@H: I agree. It's tied with MP's one about the baby pigs, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Jeff Golick:

The painting with John show is engagingly odd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Uncle Michael:

Does he paint as well as he fishes?
Avatar 12:34pm Jeff Moore:

@Jeff G: Looking forward to seeing that.

Did you watch Fishing with John back in the day?
  12:34pm Helena:

Mm. I guess I will have to listen to the whole album.
Avatar 12:35pm Jeff Moore:

barking barking barking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Jeff Golick:

He paints better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

Jeff, before Doug gets any ideas, I plan to wrestle my time slot back.
  12:37pm Helena:

:D :D :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm adamdoesit:

Known as a painter, not as a fisherman, despite his surname.
Fishing With John is currently back on Criterion.
  12:39pm Helena:

Aw, man! Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Doug Schulkind:

@Uncle Michael
Will you be wearing one of this thong-y singlets for the match? I'll get the popcorn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Asheville Jon:

ha, i sing this song about ashevile all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm doctorjazz:

UM, there are openings that need filling in the Stream schedule...Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Asheville Jon:

santa fe's had it, sedona has too. ashevile is well on the way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Ah, Greg Brown! Husband of my beloved Iris DeMent!
Avatar 12:41pm Jeff Moore:

You're very kind, UM. Thanks for being so nice to a guest from out of town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

That's how we are in a boomtown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Asheville Jon:

ha, our property taxes just doubled in this county
Avatar 12:43pm Jeff Moore:

@Doug: and wearer of remarkably filthy travelin' overalls.
At least the time I saw him walking around in real life.
Avatar 12:44pm Jeff Moore:

@Asheville Jon:

Asheville, NC? I have former neighbors who've moved there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Asheville Jon:

yes, will you please ask them to move back?
Avatar 12:45pm Jeff Moore:

Sorry, they like it there a lot and won't stop gloating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...course, we've just gone from boomtown rat to boomtown ox...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm doctorjazz:

Wilco's Tweedy (puts more into his singing than he often does with the band these days).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Asheville Jon:

not much to gloat about in a way overpriced, sardine-like packed tourist trap in the mountains
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Uncle Michael:

Sounding exceptionally nice on the old Transporter, Jeff.
Avatar 12:46pm Jeff Moore:

I have to admit that I kind of like listening to the solo Tweedy more than the whole crew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...my cue to say I like SonVolt again...
Avatar 12:47pm Jeff Moore:

Cool, UM! I'm so glad that found a home with someone who appreciates it properly – it's still a damn fine piece of audio gear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

I'm very grateful.
Avatar 12:48pm Jeff Moore:

As am I.
  12:49pm Bennett:

I'm enjoying this on the Audioengine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm doctorjazz:

Love Nels Cline and the band, but struck me on that Tweedy he's a bit different solo.
(Wilco does a great cover of Cruel to be Kind with Nick Lowe, which I got on a 45)
Avatar 12:50pm Jeff Moore:

I am Johnny Stereoseed!
  12:50pm Bennett:

An influence, no doubt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar 12:51pm Jeff Moore:

Praise Kenzo who lives on high for the playlist queue mechanism.
Avatar 12:52pm Jeff Moore:

@UM: Realtime updates!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just heard an interview w/ Nels Cline - made me like him much...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Threemoons:

Heyo. Skipping around streams today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm doctorjazz:

Your system, UM? Nice! (Tube amp, cool)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar 12:56pm Jeff Moore:

@RRN63: Here's Nels Cline at WFMU when he came to play with Cibo Matto (a band with which he has... some sort of relationship!)

He seemed quiet and sincere.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm doctorjazz:

RRN63, picked up a Son Volt album way back when, didn't take, have to pull out and give it another listen.
Tweedy and Farrar aren't on speaking terms, from what I've heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm doctorjazz:

Cline is soft spoken, but get him started, he's not reticent, will go on about something he's into. Met him a few times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm doctorjazz:

UM, is the Transporter a streamer? I Googled, was made by Slim Devices (who made Squeezebox), no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm doctorjazz:

(Which Logitech bought out).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar 1:05pm Jeff Moore:

Yes, it's the Squeezebox device made to actual high end standards.

Linear power supply, careful design, very low internal jitter, high-quality (AKM-based I think) DAC inside (although it's also an excellent digital transport), balanced outputs...
  1:06pm El Perdido:

Chick Corea today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm doctorjazz:

They're on ebay, NOS, not too expensive...(someone distract my wife)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a tube streamer ??
...as opposed to - a tube screamer...being Gittar Day & all...
Avatar 1:08pm Jeff Moore:

Probably not a formal tribute (I'll leave that to experts), but I hope to play a few of his recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm doctorjazz:

I actually use a Squeezebox 2 for my streaming on the home stereo.
Avatar 1:10pm Jeff Moore:

Have I ever mentioned that organs are cool?
Avatar 1:10pm vanhooserd:

I use my organs constantly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Uncle Michael:

Doc, at this point, three of my six SB hardware endpoints are home-assembled Raspberry Pi tchotchkes.
  1:12pm Bennett:

@vanhooserd TMI:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Uncle Michael:

They're very easy to make.
Avatar 1:13pm vanhooserd:

Bennett: Nothing to be ashamed of. I bet you use yours, too.
Avatar 1:13pm Jeff Moore:

@doctorjazz: if you're already set up with a Squeezebox (/Logitech - ptui) server, yeah, you need to score one of those Transporters which have hit the market. They sound real nice.

I used the Squeezebox Server for years. I eventually migrated to Roon, and currently use Sonore *Rendu devices (which also sound extremely excellent as transports)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Uncle Michael:

I'm getting my first jab in about six hours.
Avatar 1:15pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar 1:15pm Jeff Moore:

@UM: Wow! Congrats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm doctorjazz:

Seen those Raspberry Pis, been very curious about them.
Roon had also been tugging at me, hate that it's subscription based (or pricy for lifetime). But pricy is the name of the name in audio...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you. I was figuring on June. I was really surprised when they called me with an appointment, day before yesterday.
  1:17pm Bennett:

I've signed up, but not gotten scheduled yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm doctorjazz:

Got dose #2 about 10 days ago, didn't have and reactions (my wife was a bit light headed the day she for dose 1, fine the next day).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Uncle Michael:

With RP, you can configure however you like. I have one with only digital outs I use with an external DAC and two with analog outs. You can do balances, unbalanced, SPDIF, coax...
Avatar 1:18pm Jeff Moore:

Pi-based networked audio gizmos which use HiFiBerry DAC or digital-out HATs can sound surprisingly good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...almost like there's a different Admin in or something...
Just keep them raspberries away from the bears... they love a good tune for dancing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm doctorjazz:

I have to check into them, UM, I'm a bit tech-shy (I tell people I put together my PC, which is sort of true, I handed a friend the pieces and the screwdriver).
  1:21pm Marie:

This music is making my cat happy (and me). Thanks, Jeff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just... just - Blue Note.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Cmurtha:

Hello everyone.
Avatar 1:23pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm doctorjazz:

Stanley Turrentine, sax, Kenny Burrell, guitar, Donald Bailey, drums, what could be bad?
Avatar 1:25pm Jeff Moore:

Q: How long can you keep up a slow burn?

A: Quite a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Uncle Michael:

I changed rooms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

doctorjazz : I centered & fiddled with your dawgie avatar if you like it & wanna Copy it :
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...since everything gets squared off for tars...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm doctorjazz:

RRN63, I did copy it, thanks!
Avatar 1:35pm vanhooserd:

I saw the George Adams/Danny Pullen Quartet, with Pullen on piano. Danny Richmond, long-time Mingus drummer, was in the band.
Avatar 1:36pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I confess I like every track in this set
...that's - six organs of admittance...
Avatar 1:39pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm doctorjazz:

Can't figure out how to save it, though...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

doc they allow up to 7 @ a time...
Avatar 1:50pm Jeff Moore:

@RR: Sorry to overload you with so much BLUE NOTE!
  1:51pm El Perdido:

Is "too much Blue Note" a thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm doctorjazz:

No such thing (Jeff @1:50)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Lewis:

Oh yeah, such a hardship, too much Blue Note...
  1:52pm Bennett:

This isn't too far from the 12 bar blues, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Me? I wish everything were a 24/7 stream we could just tune in whatever whenever. Blue Note would be a magnificent one !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Uncle Michael:

When I play Blue Note it costs Doc money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm doctorjazz:

I'd say it's a 24 bar blues.
Avatar 1:55pm vanhooserd:

The Sidewinder was about as close to a big hit as Blue Note had before Norah Jones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm doctorjazz:

That's the truth, UM (but I get those amazing shipping cartons).
Avatar 1:57pm vanhooserd:

Bennett: A 24-bar theme.
  2:00pm Bennett:

I confess my ear doesn't hear a theme, I hear riffing over a chord progression, and that progression feels a lot like the 12 bar blues. But I haven't played in too many years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Uncle Michael:

This Modern Sounds is sweeeeet.
Avatar 2:01pm vanhooserd:

I'm not a musician. I counted it out. Seems like the "tune" is stretched across two 12-bar choruses.
Avatar 2:02pm Jeff Moore:

@UM: I agree! Do you know anything about these? Because I don't.
Avatar 2:02pm Stork:

Hey hoo ha, here at last! Lovin the west coast sounds here!
Avatar 2:02pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well Hard Bop overlaps SoulJazz often - riffs that could even be - dare we say it - popular...

What year was Time Out ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm adamdoesit:

@vanhooserd Don Pullen and Dannie Richmond… that must've been something else. I got to see Pullen in about 1992. He played with bells strapped to his ankle, which would jingle as he stomped out a rhythm. He looked unwell, sallow. Seated at the piano, put all the force of living and dying into his hands and feet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Uncle Michael:

I don't know anything, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Time Out - 1959 of course - Thuh Year in Jazz...
So *that* was earlier KewlJazz...
Avatar 2:04pm Jeff Moore:

@adamdoesit: Wowowow.
Avatar 2:04pm vanhooserd:

I didn't know about this Blue Note with West Coast Guys.
Avatar 2:07pm vanhooserd:

adamdoesit: I saw them in around 1987. I actually didn't like Pullen's playing that much. Richmond was the highlight for me. The bassist was a white guy they called "Downtown" Cameron Brown.
Avatar 2:07pm Stork:

That clarinet sounds like it's in my actual face!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

So well-recorded.
  2:10pm andy the painter:

hey jeff! these three jimmies are a nice surprise. digging’ it. thanks!
Avatar 2:10pm Jeff Moore:

The 2xHD guys always do REALLY good transfers, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm adamdoesit:

@vanhooserd Just looked up Cameron Brown, and a whole new door in the halls of jazz history opened for me. Thanks.
Avatar 2:11pm Stork:

Wow, so that's Hans Koller on the other clarinet, and Kenny Clarke on drums! Never heard of this recording - so great!
Avatar 2:11pm vanhooserd:

Zoot! You are really pushing my buttons. Never heard him on clarinet. Those European radio stations made great-sounding tapes.
Avatar 2:12pm Jeff Moore:

Alors, Zoot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Kenny Clarke - the man for whose sound Bop was named. No?
Avatar 2:13pm Jeff Moore:

Actually, I know someone who lives and does radio in Baden Baden today.

She's very nice, and also very dedicated to her craft.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm adamdoesit:

@Rev, Klook-mop, bomb drop, bebop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm doctorjazz:

Saw Pullen-Adams many times (was obsessed with Pullen four a while), wotta band!
Avatar 2:16pm vanhooserd:

Zoot allures.
  2:16pm Derek in Atlantic City:

Great set, Jeff!
Avatar 2:18pm dougseidel:

Yes - totally great set of music
Avatar 2:18pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks! I enjoyed it all!
Avatar 2:19pm vanhooserd:

Jeff, that was a great set. I'm overdue for my nap but will check the rest in the Archives.
Avatar 2:20pm Jeff Moore:

Snooze well.
Avatar 2:22pm Stork:

re: Akiyama -- that's some face-bone massaging resonance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Uncle Michael:

What bone's connected to the face-bone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm adamdoesit:

The trombone, I'm told.
Avatar 2:24pm Stork:

Hans! Rock that daxophone!!
Avatar 2:25pm Stork:

@UM: I'm gonna say...the neck-bone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Uncle Michael:

This Expandards has got some bottom.
Avatar 2:33pm Jeff Moore:

Courtesy of Mikael Jorgensen, I bet!
Avatar 2:35pm Stork:

A Lurch reference!
Avatar 2:41pm Stork:

I would prefer that this ballad not end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Jeff, fun show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Uncle Michael:

@Listening: Yeah, that's some fine drumming.

Jeff, let's do this again some time, okay?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm adamdoesit:

Thanks for the tunes, Jeff. Seems a shame to have listened to them in lo-fi. A pleasure just the same.

TY DJ Jeff !
Avatar 2:57pm Jeff Moore:

@Uncle Michael: Mmmmmaybe! You know that I'm deeply self-destructive when I try to put a show together, and my old bones can't take the abuse very often. I was so bad at getting things resolved in a timely fashion that I didn't quite get around to sleeping last night.

But thank you as always for the honor of having allowed me to perch on your radio stool for a day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Uncle Michael:

I promise to give you a suitable refractory period.

Oof. I hate losing people this significant. Well - we were lucky to have Chick Corea.
Avatar 3:07pm Jeff Moore:

Okay, all! Thanks so much for hanging here with me!

I've got one more Chick Corea song, then you should dive right over and listen to the diva, the one and only Monica!

  3:09pm Bennett:

Thank you, Jeff
Avatar 3:13pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks for visiting and riding this out, Bent! I wasn't sure everything would be to your taste.
Avatar 3:14pm Stork:

Pretty snappy chair-warming you did there, Jeff.
Avatar 3:17pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks, man.
