Listener comments!

  11:50am headcleaner:

lovely photo
Avatar 11:51am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good afternoon Irene, hello one and all, it’s daylight still outdoors
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Irene Trudel:

Hullo, headcleaner, Sean and all listening in! It's a sunny after-snow day in NYC and I have music to match.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Was a delight watching the trees get covered like that one yesterday. And the sun helped me clean what little was left off my car. More pretty-yet-innocuous snow like this (maybe next year), please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Irene Trudel:

Wasn't it pretty, james? A lot dropped off the trees this morning but that's typical NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene.

Yes Sean still light despite the snow heavy sky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome, Brian!
Avatar 12:03pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Brian in UK, did you hear about a MP proposing putting the clocks forward on the last day of this month, gets my vote
Avatar 12:05pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Irene, listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Brian in UK:

Sean I find the whole clock moving beyond me. We invented time and then we play about with it.
Avatar 12:09pm Sean in Bristol UK:

I so agree, I think this came up back in October as the clocks were due to go back, Arizona has it nailed, no mucking around with the time
  12:10pm John from NJ:

So glad to be in the right place at the right time to listen live this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Irene Trudel:

Glad to have you here today, Sylvia and John.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Deborah:

Glad to be listening while prepping for tomorrow's three hour classes. Tend to think of them as a radio shift, sort of, now that we are virtual. Students even have a comments section.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Irene Trudel:

Happy to help you prep, Deborah!
Avatar 12:18pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Tomita, now this a welcome blast from the past, Irene, thank you for jogging my memory with this fine artist
  12:19pm headcleaner:

@sean - yup - putting that one on my list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Irene Trudel:

This Tomita record was one of my mom's favorites.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Irene: Brian Dewan has a live streamed Valentines Show coming up!
  12:27pm Dean:

Checked out that Tomita album many times from the library at the time. Finally bought a copy, a couple bucks, two or three years ago.

The Hamilton Ravel was terrific. I'm a big fan of Alexandre Tharaud's, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Henry! I was just about to mention it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Irene Trudel:

Brian Dewan's Valentine's Day stream: www.eventbrite.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Rich in Washington:

this is lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Deborah:

Loved Brian Dewan's story. Never heard it before.
  12:31pm John from NJ:

I didn't know Brian is on Bar None. Cool.
Avatar 12:31pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Stunning set, thank you Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Webhamster Henry:

That's Brian's homemade harpsichord-sized electric zither through a Leslie cabinet , and tasteful overdubbing.
Avatar 12:33pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Chuffing cold out there, Irene, my morning cycle was an uphill struggle, physically and metaphorically
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, I can't believe you still cycle in this weather! You're really dedicated to fitness.
Avatar 12:52pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@60 I am going to give it one more go to be a bronzed Adonis! Vanity, should be one of the seven deadly sins!!
Avatar 1:01pm prguitar:

Hey there Irene! What a beautiful photograph from yesterday's Ivory Snowlike weather.. Glad to be here for a while this afternoon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Irene Trudel:

Good to have you here today, prguitar!
Avatar 1:04pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Playing this wonderful album daily, Urban Driftwood is lights out gorgeous
Avatar 1:07pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

lost the feed for a split second
Avatar 1:13pm prguitar:

Larry!! He'll be smiling on you from the ether Irene! Was so lucky to cross paths with him in this life. One of my favorite visitors to the repair shop at Rudy's. Such a brilliant player, and what a character!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Sigurður:

Good to hear your voice Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Irene Trudel:

So great that you knew Larry, pr guitar! He seemed like a nice person. Sad that he left us too early. Hi Sigurður!
Avatar 1:29pm Fox:

Thank you for the soothing tunes, Irene. It's helping me deal with life.
  1:35pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Mind blown! This set, wow!

Back from the arctic. Listening in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Webhamster Henry:

I was cycling around last Thursday, but it was in the relatively toasty 40Fs .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Fox and βrian! Happy to soothe you all with the tunes today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm doctorjazz:

Hi folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Irene Trudel:

Hiya, doctorjazz!
  2:02pm John from NJ:

Thanks, Irene. Lovely to hear our song in the context of that beautiful set. Hi to Peter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Irene Trudel:

You're quite welcome, John. Say 'hi' to Tony for me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Hi, Irene! Been working but have had you on since the first strains of Harry Nilsson! Interesting that even when he's not singing you can recognize a Nilsson melody straightaway. Also, was dead sure that last track was Ivor Cutler until I saw the playlist! x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Irene Trudel:

Summer and Michael and Sylvia, you weren't too far off with that last one. Ivor Cutler was indeed on that Robert Wyatt track. And Harry didn't write that track-- Randy Newman did-- but he really owns it in that recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Webhamster Henry:

@Summer - I thought it was Ivor too! Nilsson and Newman cross pollinated quite a bit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Webhamster Henry:

I heard someone's really deep and long Ivor Cutler tribute compilation once, I wonder where I put that link?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Ah! I guess my ears hear a similar familiarity with Newman and Harry! And I love Ivor! Came to him a bit late - 1997's "A Wet Handle" - but got to hear him read once at a little bookstore in London, The Owl in Kentish Town. Got his autograph later at the signing. He looked up and said "were you in the queue?" I said yes, of course. He looked at me astonished and said "you just seemed to appear!" Very Ivor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm redkayak:

Hello all - Hope you've dug out from the snowdrifts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm fred:

Hello Irene and listeners. That's a lovely tree, and that's a lovely show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Michael 98145:

more kazoo!
Avatar 2:44pm prguitar:

Larry was great! He and Pat (Martino) did a weeks run at the Blue Note in late January, 2015. Pat had his trio and Larry played duo with Vic Juris (who sadly passed on New Year's eve 2019). They would alternate who opened each night. I arrived early one of the evenings, and went upstairs to say hello to Pat, his trio (Pat Bianchi, Carmen Intorre Jr.) Vic and Larry, who I hadn't seen for a few years since I left Rudy's.. Upon greeting Larry, he remembered my name straightaway, plus details of our visits at Rudy's, and he was gracious as always.. sadly, it was the last time we had the opportunity to hang out together.. by the way, did I bump into you and Peter one of those evenings? Might have been.. or at another one of Pat's performances for certain.. Time passes ever so quickly..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm doctorjazz:

All, great BST album (my favorite)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Irene Trudel:

Hey redkayak, fred and Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Webhamster Henry:

WFMU: Your Al Kooper station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Irene Trudel:

prguitar, Peter and I were definitely at one of those Blue Note shows. Really special!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Michael 98145:

Enjoyed the show ... thanks again, Irene
Avatar 2:50pm prguitar:

Does ISB and BS&T attest to time quickly passing, or perhaps more useful to a certain musical timelessness that we feel in our hearts always..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for this week's snowscape, Irene.
  2:51pm BillD:

I have always loved this BS and T album. It's the only that matters. Not one dud on the whole thing. Al Kooper rules
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Michael 98145:

we are so fortunate to have lived through so much of this music
Avatar 2:56pm prguitar:

So we did.. thought so! Yes, those performances were very special!! We were so lucky to have been present.. as it wasn't in the cards to ever happen again..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm redkayak:

@Irene - thanks for a great shooooo ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm doctorjazz:

Thanks Irene, great show (as usual)!
Avatar 2:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):
