Good afternoon Irene, hello one and all, it’s daylight still outdoors
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
Irene Trudel:

Hullo, headcleaner, Sean and all listening in! It's a sunny after-snow day in NYC and I have music to match.

listener james from westwood:

Was a delight watching the trees get covered like that one yesterday. And the sun helped me clean what little was left off my car. More pretty-yet-innocuous snow like this (maybe next year), please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm
Irene Trudel:

Wasn't it pretty, james? A lot dropped off the trees this morning but that's typical NYC.

I so agree, I think this came up back in October as the clocks were due to go back, Arizona has it nailed, no mucking around with the time

Glad to be listening while prepping for tomorrow's three hour classes. Tend to think of them as a radio shift, sort of, now that we are virtual. Students even have a comments section.

Hi Irene: Brian Dewan has a live streamed Valentines Show coming up!

Dean:

Checked out that Tomita album many times from the library at the time. Finally bought a copy, a couple bucks, two or three years ago.

The Hamilton Ravel was terrific. I'm a big fan of Alexandre Tharaud's, too.

Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Hi, Irene! Been working but have had you on since the first strains of Harry Nilsson! Interesting that even when he's not singing you can recognize a Nilsson melody straightaway. Also, was dead sure that last track was Ivor Cutler until I saw the playlist! x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Irene Trudel:

Summer and Michael and Sylvia, you weren't too far off with that last one. Ivor Cutler was indeed on that Robert Wyatt track. And Harry didn't write that track-- Randy Newman did-- but he really owns it in that recording.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Summer - I thought it was Ivor too! Nilsson and Newman cross pollinated quite a bit!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Webhamster Henry:

I heard someone's really deep and long Ivor Cutler tribute compilation once, I wonder where I put that link?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Ah! I guess my ears hear a similar familiarity with Newman and Harry! And I love Ivor! Came to him a bit late - 1997's "A Wet Handle" - but got to hear him read once at a little bookstore in London, The Owl in Kentish Town. Got his autograph later at the signing. He looked up and said "were you in the queue?" I said yes, of course. He looked at me astonished and said "you just seemed to appear!" Very Ivor!

Larry was great! He and Pat (Martino) did a weeks run at the Blue Note in late January, 2015. Pat had his trio and Larry played duo with Vic Juris (who sadly passed on New Year's eve 2019). They would alternate who opened each night. I arrived early one of the evenings, and went upstairs to say hello to Pat, his trio (Pat Bianchi, Carmen Intorre Jr.) Vic and Larry, who I hadn't seen for a few years since I left Rudy's.. Upon greeting Larry, he remembered my name straightaway, plus details of our visits at Rudy's, and he was gracious as always.. sadly, it was the last time we had the opportunity to hang out together.. by the way, did I bump into you and Peter one of those evenings? Might have been.. or at another one of Pat's performances for certain.. Time passes ever so quickly..
