Good show Bethany!
  9:02pm Listening Out There:

Thx
Avatar 9:02pm TDK60:

I'm listening in here; over there to you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm swivs:

HAIL FREEDONIA!
  9:04pm BH:

welcome to a new era where Gamestop stock is worth more than Apple stock
  9:05pm Michael Shore:

@swivs this is a gala day for you...
Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Ira:

Michael, I'm sure a gala day is all swivs can handle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good Evening - grateful for the Program.
  9:06pm Rick G:

Cheers Ira, producer, skeleton crew and listeners. Prepping for a bit of snow out here not far from Hood Canal WA.
  9:07pm Michael Shore:

@Ira lord knows a gal a day is enough for me!
Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Ira:

Rick G., a flake fell here today. City came to a standstill. Then again, the city's already pretty much at a standstill.
  9:11pm vj pussycat:

hi ira and chat. expecting a bunch of snow here too in reno nevada
Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Ira:

Drove from Denver to Minneapolis one winter in whiteout conditions. They never closed the highway, which told us that, almost inconceivably, it could be worse. I recommend staying home & listening to WFMU.
  9:14pm BH:

there's a section of I-70 in western Kansas that closes at least once a year due to snow... but you gotta figure the standard for closure gets higher every year
Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Ira:

Thinking more about it, the drive may not have started in Denver or ended in Minneapolis. Then again, we couldn't see, so maybe it did.
  9:17pm Rick G:

“Staying home and listening to WFMU” has been a recurring theme the past year. It’s a good, multi-purpose option.
Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Ira:

I don't like to toot my own horn, but I did go outside on Sunday.
  9:20pm Brandon P:

Tuning in live from DC for the first time after deep diving through the archives; love the program, thanks Ira!
Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Ira:

Thank you, Brandon!
Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Ira:

. . . not every song tonight will be 19 minutes long, so subsequent comments may not be so rapid response . . .

yeah, it snowed a bit earlier today -- was nice to be outside! but then it just turned to falling slush
Avatar 9:32pm farmer pete:

Brandon, go to Som Records in Columbia Heights
  9:32pm ariella:

Abraham is requesting if you can please play that Babylon dance band song again
Avatar 9:32pm Charkrem:

I miss slush!
  9:34pm Brandon P:

@farmer Pete thanks for the recommendation! Been desperate for ideas of things to do here in semi quarantine; only record store I’ve been to was in a basement in Shaw, can’t remember the name
Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Ira:

I haven't been to a record store in a year. Unless bandcamp counts. I haven't been to a record store in a year.
  9:36pm ariella:

WoW thanks!!!!!
  9:37pm Libby’s Mom:

Errol Dunkley! Thanks for introducing me to him. Good stuff.
Avatar 9:37pm farmer pete:

Actually, that's probably the one. I guess they call that "Shaw" now. It was just U Street in my day. somrecordsdc.com Tell the owner a guy named Pete sent you.
Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Ira:

Ariella, the only problem is my Groundhog Day programming is a week ahead of schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm JB from NP:

Thanks Ira and Ariella. I missed it the first time around. Washing my hands again.
Avatar 9:38pm farmer pete:

Ira, my condolences.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Jeezy:

Is the Babylon track definitely called "Bold Beginnings"? I see a comp out there with that title but no song but them with it...
Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Ira:

Jeezy, it's on their Matador record, called Four on One.
Avatar 9:50pm TDK60:

These guys again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Jeezy:

Ah, thanks Ira! Amazeballs show thus far
Avatar 9:53pm TDK60:

I saw V.Suns once and the drummer was making funny comments about Fairport Convention, to a quite young audience that likely had never heard Fairport.
Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Ira:

TDK60, that is not hard to believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Scott67:

G'day Ira & all! How the hell have I not been in here before!?
Avatar 9:55pm ! I X Key !:

Avatar 9:55pm TDK60:

Yeah Ira, that drummer guy who was in that other band. I think he worked in a record store.
Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Ira:

TDK 60, in fact, the hardest part to believe is that the bassist and guitarist weren't joining in (no matter what edition of the band it was).
  9:55pm TK:

TK reporting late! thanks for the BDB love IK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Good evening, Ira and friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hullo Wendy !
Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Ira:

TK, if you can work it out that Abraham puts in another request, not ruling out a threepeat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Scott67:

G'day Wendy! 🧀😎
  9:57pm Ms. Klara:

On a sad note, James Purify, half of the duo that made "I'm Your Puppet" a hit in '66, died last week of covid.
Avatar 9:58pm Jedley:

Hi everyone! And thank you Mr. DJ, I am infinity hours deep into editing articles and grants and my brain was fading until this set started. Now I am all over it!
Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Ira:

Ms. Klara, I did not hear about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Wendy del Formaggio:

  10:04pm Owen:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm chresti:

Hi Ira and company! Listening and and playing the grinder in the kitchen, SoCal.
Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Ira:

A quadruple threat: A song man again, because he's just that good.
  10:06pm bobby jay:

Ira...starting the show with the Spice Girls...into Whitehouse...'RapeMaster'...was true brilliance...
Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Ira:

Thanks for noticing, bobby jay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Parq:

"New Morning" is only a half hour long, but there are so many great tracks on it.
Avatar 10:08pm TDK60:

New Morning irked me at first. Then I liked it.
  10:08pm Andres:

Evening Ira and all! I see I missed the Meridian Brothers. A shame, they’re great.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Three of the numbers are in my phone number. That's not really close though, is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm chresti:

That Troggs song was great.

  10:19pm Andres:

665 is a prefix used in every state. A quick search showed someone in NJ with the number. Poor fellow must receive more than a few misdirected calls.
  10:21pm Andres:

Gaylord, you’re quicker than me.
  10:21pm Rick G:

Gaylord the factoid legend.
  10:22pm vj pussycat:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Andres: Yeah, up here in Vermont, it's someone with the great name of Saxen Bufton. That name sounds made up, so maybe it's really a Trogg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm chaos_in_la_la:

I love that in the gatefold for the “Barry White sings For Someone You Love” Thera four corner slits cut so you can put a love note/valentine in the album. Smooth..

  10:34pm Andres:

If Barry had sung it he would have made it through the first time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Little Danny:

Barry gets remembered for his singing style, but he was a hell of a producer and arranger. Those snares!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Franco Twinkie:

Barry White and Harland Sanders could've had a cutting contest and sold out the the gym at Paul Quinn Collage.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Spodiodi, I spent the day patching my canoe with newspaper. Those who say such things were gassing on about an atmospheric river coming our way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Little Danny:

Hi Spodi!
  10:48pm Andres:

Across the streams today I have heard Beatles covers, influenced, influencers, adjacent to, and now finally the band themselves. A full day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Little Danny:

I think that was the very first time I'd heard that Beatles track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Said to have been written after John's father showed up for the 1st time since early childhood : Fred Lennon had asked toddler John to decide on the spot between going with him or staying with his Mother !
  10:49pm absmiami:

Ira how much credit should we give to George Martin for the Beatles harmonies /?
  10:49pm vj pussycat:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@absmiami: Not that much, actually. GM was the one who tried to talk them out of the sixths on "She Loves You" as too Andrews Sisters, for example. The Boys looked to GM for a lot of his song arranging expertise, but they were great vocal arrangers on their own.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Little Danny:

G'day, Scott. You had a good celebration on Tuesday?
  10:56pm Andres:

Franco, I did see your comments and stories earlier. So you were also there at the start of the journey. Also some shade thrown at Journey as it happened!
  10:56pm absmiami:

does anyone else think the the Magical Mystery
Tour LP is way under-appreciated ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn @Little Danny: It's only been recently that "It's Only a Northern Song" went from being one of my least favorite Beatles tracks to one of my favorites. You'd think those opinions would be set in granite by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hard Day's Night album that's on - only one all Lennon/McCartney originals. Solid.

@Gaylord Fields same about "Only a Northern Song"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Little Danny:

Love a grower, Gaylord, and the Beatles' catalog is certainly full of 'em. How many years did it take in that song's case?

Andres, I couldn't weigh in on Journey because I have no reference good, bad or indifferent. I'm more familiar with their album covers.

Thug and Boogarins touched the leather-fringed hole where my heart was meant to me. Thanks for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Little Danny:

Wow, sounds like Big Star backing Elvis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Matt Fiveash:

Love this Elvis- the band sounds like the Faces but on pep pills instead of booze...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Little Danny:

These guitars are wicked good guitars.
  11:02pm absmiami:

who is the guitar player on Patch it up ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Only a Northern Song was in YellowSub movie - so good with me from childhood ! George wrote it early '67 & submitted it for Sgt. Pepper - & George Martin told him to try harder !... NorthernSongs was the John/Paul publishing co. - so a bit if bitterness from Harrison - using transcendental cosmic terminology...

@Little Danny: About 40 years?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Scott67:

Ken, if you mean the day a British bloke plants a Union Jack at Botany Bay & steals a country from it's actual inhabitants of 60,000 years? I don't really celebrate it mate. Federation is when we became a nation, and not until 1967, where Indigenous Australians counted as citizens & able to vote. I was born & counted as Australian 3 months before they were. Something I will never forget. Sorry for the heavy response mate, it just was a heavy day for some here. 😊

Scott67, you should look up what Old Man Scripps did to San Diego when he though importing eucalyptus trees was a good idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

No worries, Scott. I was reading about the subject and I understand it better now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sounded like Tear Us Apart in the style of a different JoyDivision song. So a great pastiche.

Hello all.
Sounds of Liberation leads off the show. I can only hope my suggestion to give them a listen a couple of weeks ago got that on tonight’s playlist. An awesome listen as always, IK. Thanks from Denver.

@Revolution Rabbit yes I think so – have to go back and listen again but maybe She's Lost Control? Not identical but as you said "in the style of"

@Scott thank you for sharing that. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments. Solidarity from occupied, unceded, ancestral territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Squamish and Tseil Watuth!

oh boy wonder if some of my clients would like this ..... ??
  11:12pm headcleaner:

@absmiami - I should think it's hard to describe anything the Beatles ever did as "underappreciated". Unless of course we're talking about their Hamburg years :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Scott67:

Ken, no worries cobber! Good to know your keeping up with the word outside. I still have a few friends who celebrated, I just think we have better dates & reasons to be thankful for. ❤😎🤙

FarmerP I just had a look. And yes they can also drop serious hardwood without warning. I think you guys have mainly Yellow Box, they're bastards for it. And Red Gum can take out a house.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well Magical Mystery Tour wasn't even an Album in the UK - but a double E.P. StrawberryFields / PennyLane was the single before Pepper - same sessions basically - & All You Need Is Love the single right after Pepper same month (June). So - the Singles that framed Pepper (if Pepper be critiqued as all Production & no Song, consider that...) YellowSub Beatle trax mostly leftovers from Pepper sessions too... since they weren't actually in the cartoon & didn't have much to do with it... Like here have these trax...So if you put MMT & YellowSub soundtrack together we get like Vol.2 of Psychedelic '67 to Pepper's Vol. 1. Yeah.
I like to call late 1967 the 'Winter of Love' - & not just for TheBeatles...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm chresti:

The Tongva have a house on our street, in San Gabriel, CA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Little Danny:

Very expansive set thusfar, love it.
Avatar 11:35pm farmer pete:

Red Gum sure can take out a house. We just had a horrendous rain and wind storm this weekend and I'm sure it wreaked havoc on them. The jacarandas were getting uprooted.
On the beatles, there's no particularly good reason to clown on their music, but it's kind of silly to, like, know what toilet paper they were using between sets in Hamburg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...MMT just a Made for TV thing anyhow - & if you've got 'I Am the Walrus' - I'm sold! That's not really like what's on Pepper - but between it & Lennon as sharp & convoluted as he is on the White Album... Well enuff sorry.
