He also occasionally jumped onto the desk in the morning (to evade another cat who would try to mount him to show dominance every morning) and I would pick him up and put him on that rug, which maybe he wasn't a big fan of that destination. He has since found other places to jump onto to avoid wrestling, like the tops of bookcases
