Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar 12:30pm StringOFperils:

By 1979 technology had caught up with Mike Oldfield a little. He made Tubular Bells with tape. He's a tape guy. In fact he burned out the initial master tape of that album, and had to do it over from scratch. I don't think even the new Tascams etc worked for him so much. Plus, it was time for the 1970s to go bye-bye. Guilty, although an interesting part of his output, is probably not his finest moment.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Uncle Michael, i truly hope to visit you on a Friday someday!
Avatar 1:03pm StringOFperils:

Psychedelic audio delay. I love it . There should be little ripples of video feedback to go with this.
Avatar 1:04pm StringOFperils:

ha ha
Avatar 1:04pm Listening Out There:

FYI, you're a little too close to the source, UM, to hear the delay...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm efd:

stream audio seems fine to me, it's just not in sync with the twitch audio
Avatar 1:04pm StringOFperils:

Turn me on deadman. The walrus was Paul. I yam the eggman....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Rich from Somewhere:

You can't use umlauts. People have been hoarding them.
  1:05pm steveL:

Full disclosure, my umlauts came via Autocorrect.
Avatar 1:05pm StringOFperils:

Man, I am lovin' this Covid technology side-effect thing. Remote radio shows rock !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Rich from Somewhere:

You have to get some colons and turn them sideways until supplies recover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Usually when i have a psychedelic delay it's because i have two players open simultaneously.
  1:06pm Dean:

Hey, today is Arbor Day. I really was in a band called Arbor Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Picture and sound are in sync with Twitch, but the sound is much better with the stream than with Twitch. Also you are much more handsome on the stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm efd:

yes, twitch audio and video are in sync!
Avatar 1:06pm spodiodi:

TWITCH audio and video in sync (level a little lower than radio stream fwiw, but it's fine)
Avatar 1:06pm StringOFperils:

Maybe disorder is the way forward. But only in radio. Only in radio. Yeeesh.
Avatar 1:07pm Listening Out There:

Huh. UM is right. The Twitch audio *is* in sync. Write down the date....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm efd:

I agree with everything Doug said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Rich from Somewhere:

That's what Eisenhower died of - a sideways colon.
  1:08pm CC:

your video and your audio is in sync on my other phone it just won't let me post it says contact the staff???
Avatar 1:08pm StringOFperils:

Oh man. This little MOV needs to go to the Great Magellanic Cloud my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm doctorjazz:

Have to live with the lack of sync to avoid listening from the laptop, through the speakers (won't be able to do that much longer, at least not during the day). Fun to see, though.
Avatar 1:09pm StringOFperils:

Hilarious. That was gold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Rich in Washington:

This is swell. I've got the Twitch feed on one monitor and on its own fader and WFMU on one fader and I just switch to the WFMU feed when the back announce segments are over.
Avatar 1:10pm spodiodi:

where's my tricycle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm doctorjazz:

I don't think recordings quite capture what a lovely voice Petra has (and she does sound good on them, but...).
  1:11pm dan:

So that’s what Uncle Michael and his recording venue look like.
  1:12pm CC:

does anybody know how to contact the staff who is the staff???
Avatar 1:12pm still b/p:

With the video at 1080 or even auto quality, my cocktail straw of a connection says wait...oh, wait, just a ...oop, it's...OK, a bit...wait....there it...oop,no...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm doctorjazz:

My Maria, great tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Goyim in the AM:

Oh yeah, this was one of toddler Goyim's top pre-school hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

still b/p...I'm still trying to optimize those settings. I think you have some control at your end over the quality. You can downgrade?
Avatar 1:14pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

That's why I love this show - you play songs I love that I'd forgotten.
Avatar 1:15pm spodiodi:

... and for so many songs i've never heard (or can't recall)
Avatar 1:15pm Listening Out There:

IMO, this is workin pretty well, UM, even through wi-fi to my non-work computer. Tip o' the hat....
  1:16pm CC:

anyway the video and the audio is working real great perfectly in sync
Avatar 1:17pm spodiodi:

even the lip syncing was perfect
Avatar 1:17pm Listening Out There:

I just finished reading a biography on Doc Pomus. He had a great Esther Phillips story...
Avatar 1:17pm still b/p:

Liked Esther Phillips' sound since hearing her What A Difference A Day Makes getting fairly regular FM play for a while in the 70s.
Avatar 1:18pm StringOFperils:

The Guerilla aspect of none of this working in sync is part of what I really like about it.
Avatar 1:18pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm efd:

@still b/p and AM airplay too, at least in the Boston area!

Avatar 1:19pm StringOFperils:

I feel I should clarify, having said that on the internet, that the lags are nuanced, and no bother whatsoever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Rich in Washington:

I sure have developed a weird fondness for mid/late 60s Country. Doubly weird for me, as I grew up hating that music.
Avatar 1:20pm still b/p:

Really, AM? 'RKO? My exposure was on BCN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm doctorjazz:

Know this from Hank Williams-great song/track!
Avatar 1:21pm spodiodi:

String -- I agree with that sentiment. I love the little glitches that make these times memorable
  1:21pm Listener Gregory:

Hank! Hank! Hank?
  1:22pm dan:

Hard to believe that Hank Snow was actually Canadian
Avatar 1:22pm StringOFperils:

@ Rich..That happened to me. I detested this kind of corny old country music when I was a kid, and then , later, I fell in love with it. Same story, basically, with soul records.
  1:22pm johnk77:

@lot lonely avenue?
  1:24pm Listener Gregory:

Lost the opportunity for a Hank hat trick.
  1:24pm dan:

The guitar riff reminds me of Eric Clapton’s “Tearing Us Apart”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm doctorjazz:

@Rich-ditto, interesting how that happens. Also wouldn't have been caught dead listening to what Flash plays as "Exotica", enjoy hearing it now. I think it's a good thing, ears opening up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Rich in Washington:

My family moved to a town in the late 60s that was largely filled with hillbillies and shitkickers. I remember my whole family lamenting that you couldn't go into a restaurant or store that didn't have annoying country music playing really loudly. My dad liked some Country, but it seemed like we had some euphemism for cowboy music that I cannot recall. I think it was the annoying steel guitar or something.
I sure do like a lot of it now, though.
Avatar 1:27pm spodiodi:

Jabbo!
(new to me. love it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm efd:

@still b/p probably WRKO, and/or maybe WBZ. I don't feel like I was listening to 'BCN that much at the time but I may just be remembering incaccurately.
  1:27pm Listener Gregory:

Jabbo "Hank" Smith!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Rich in Washington:

I also got into what us kids used to call 'La La music', the easy listening stuff my mom used to foist on us when we were very young. I think the radio format is called 'Beautiful Music'. But I remember getting into it in the 90s, a sort of precursor to my Exotica/Lounge phase in the mid-90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

UM's giving us a good shellac'ing.
Avatar 1:29pm spodiodi:

amen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm doctorjazz:

Jabbo and the Rhythm Aces were put together to compete with Louis Armstrong and his hot 5 and 7 recordings, if I remember correctly. Not that they still weren't great!

Your voice is lower than the music on the stream, UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Cmurtha:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm efd:

@hyde, ugh, yes, did see that sad news a few weeks ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm WR:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm doctorjazz:

Enjoy, Doug (if that's the right word).
Avatar 1:35pm still b/p:

Or low-power WCAS AM...I now recollect Esther there too, perhaps. But it would be outside their largely folk-acoustic format, so maybe my rememberations are likewise glitchy....but an uncertified memory floats of driving in my mom's bright damn orange Maverick to high school and hearing it from them.

I got no handle whatsoever on the last few decades of Boston radio, hyde. Looking forward to catching the BCN doc when I can. It was supposed to play a small theater about an hour from me in April, but then some kinda something, some kind of kiboshing kerflugle-bug came along.

Avatar 1:42pm Martinibomb:

@Rich it's about time! Congratufreakinglations!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm doctorjazz:

I thought you NEEDED a different cartridge to play 78's
Avatar 1:42pm Martinibomb:

its true you need a different needle/cart
Avatar 1:42pm still b/p:

Excellent, efd, good news. Thanks.

I was doing some attic clearing and organizing (hah!) the other day and came across a turntable. Not the 45-year old cheap Glenburn I think should be up there, but a different better one. Not immediately sure where...it...came...from..
Spontaneous component generation.
Must be from former workplace.
Avatar 1:43pm StringOFperils:

Steve is off "gargling".
Avatar 1:45pm Roberto:

This might have been my most-played track of 1994.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

78s do require a different cartridge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Rich in Washington:

I have spare headshells and am ordering a cartridge/needle which can play 78s. Not that I have a lot of them, and I think I own exactly 0 shellac records.
Avatar 1:45pm Roberto:

Yes, it was released in '93, but '94 was when I discovered it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm The Oscar:
