Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Two people in this room -- so call it a roomful -- were wondering about Liquidator coming a few years before I'll Take You There and the two so much the same. Thought maybe I missed talk before it played. I know we need to tread carefully in the "this sounds like that" references in the Hinky room.

Avatar 1:31pm Franco Twinkie:

That is a hard call. But for me right now, I would say Sailing Shoes by Little Feat. The psychic landscape that record occupies has always resonated with me.
  1:32pm John from Florham park:

I am so glad I can create on Spotify a playlist of all WFMU songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

I have a sad issue with Little Feat records. I cut my teeth on WFC, so the studio albums all sound a little sterile to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Jeff Golick:

It wasn't the crime of the century, @UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm pantz:

Love this bed music. Feels like I'm in a Skyrim tavern.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Michael 98145:

Hmm. I just assumed Nilsson wrote that ...
Avatar 1:39pm burke:

Harry kind of sang it like Jimmy Webb too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Michael 98145:

Yay, Nina!
  1:39pm rw:

I feel like the problem with playing N. Simone is figuring out what to play afterward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Michael 98145:

I come here to be edumicated.
Avatar 1:42pm Franco Twinkie:

Michael, My experience with Little Feat preceeds any of their albums. As a teenager I watched them play outside to a small group of hippies when they were a four piece band. The super charged boogie funk band they became can't compete with those early days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

rw is right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

This is why we need time travel, Franco.
  1:45pm Dean:

Well, yeah, if you wanna hear *real* Renaissance dance music, you're gonna have to exceed the speed of light.

Saw her with them at LA's Greek Theater. Jean-Luc Ponty opened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

Can I take my sackbut, Dean?
  1:48pm dan:

The best John Martyn performance is him doing Solid Air in 1978 in Germany. The heart and soul he put in those 5-10 minutes were endless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8Blccc0PM0
  1:50pm Dean:

Is that how your nieces and nephews talk to you, UM? I'm shocked.

Late 1976, London, I made one of life's big musical mistakes: I declined to hear Gryphon at, I think, The Marquee, for something like 50p. Gryphon plays sackbuts.
  1:50pm John from Florham park:

If you have ranch dressing, you can always turn it into blue cheese dressing by adding blue cheese, which many blue cheese dressing's don't have enough of anyway. But you can't turn blue cheese dressing into ranch.

How many numbers do you have about cricket, anyway? The only other one I know of is, "Why nobody like cricket? Cause it's so darn slow!"
  2:13pm John from Florham park:

@Doug go for it let the puns begin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Cmurtha:

@john I like the variety of the internet streams and the fact there's no FCC to limit what is played. Though, I like 90% of the shows on both the net/main stream. Though, I do feel as if there's a bit "too much" (and I say this as someone who enjoys all these programs and these genres) ambient/drone on the main stream as the experimental side of things, and a lot of the shows on the main air tend to gravitate toward a specific kind of rock sound. Good stuff, but still
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Cmurtha:

I did not intend to have a though followed by a though lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Uncle Michael:

I'm all about the drone. I save it for the mic breaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Cmurtha:

I will have to pop in for this show more often methinks
  2:20pm John from Florham park:

@Cmurtha I agree what your saying, the Sunday morning regaee show I choose not to listen too
Plus there are a couple of other shows I fhoose not to listen too for personal reasons so I find the internet streams a lot better too
  2:21pm John from Florham park:

@Cmurtha try and listen to the show before this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Cmurtha. The door is always open.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Cmurtha:
