Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I miss you more then Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
And that's an awful lot girl
And now, now you've gone away
And all I'm trying to say is
Pearl Harbor sucked, and I miss you

I need u like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need u like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He's way better than Ben Affleck
And now all I can think about is your smile
and that shitty movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
Just a little bit more than I miss you

This Burning Spear was written by the great Richard Evans.
Avatar 12:48pm coelacanth∅:

the one on fmu a few days ago was one Jimmy Smith; and of course there's the sonic youth song(which i happen to play a few days ago)
i do not know Richard Evans.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm chresti:

Sounds like a great show, ngh
Avatar 12:54pm coelacanth∅:

i saw "burning spear" free at some park on the hudson in poughkeepsie. there couldn't have been more than a dozen people in the audience.
i paid for culture, somewhere in nyc. we were one row of people from the stage and a group of large, elaborately adorned, beautiful brown women were in front of us yelling "Jah! rasta far i" like they were possessed...which i guess they were.
  12:56pm Dean:

I saw Augustus Pablo in Santa Monica at a little club. Loudest bass ever. Viewed the entire show through a thick cloud of ganja haze.
Avatar 12:57pm coelacanth∅:

Lee Scratch Perry was among the most boring shows i've been to...with so, so much potential to be one of the best.
at least 2/3 him babbling his special brand of nonsense; < 1/3 music, which was lacklustre probably because the band was so bored of his nonsense.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm annie:

i felt obliged to pass through the Bryce Portal on my way here. hi all!
  1:36pm Dean:

Belafonte's Carnegie Hall record is one of those de rigueur LPs, like Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat, for audiophiles, regardless of whether the music is to one's taste. Supposedly, on a decent system you can hear the subways running under the hall. I've never bothered to check. But I do remember hearing Mingus Big Band at Fez under Time Cafe long ago. You could feel and hear the subway trains rumbling by.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

Fountain's of Wayne have the protagonist point his weapon at himself?! Forfend.

The world needs more librarians and fewer libertarians. Thanks, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm annie:

@UM: so,i missed the scoop on the all-request show.. will you be posting that on the Book of Faces?
  2:40pm Dean:

You're welcome, Unk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Uncle Michael:

Here, there and everywhere, Annie.
  2:41pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Jeff Golick:

This is like the "Tinker to Evers to Chance" of seques.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

It surely is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm annie:

Annie Ross played Darryl Hannah's mom in"Short Cuts"..a great movie, actually
Avatar 2:44pm coelacanth∅:

by the way i wasn't requesting that Charlie Rich song i just thought it'd be a good segue then, and that opportunity's behind us
  2:44pm dan:

@Annie Probably Robert Altman's magnum opus along with Nashville. And Lori Singer was the daughter, not Daryl Hannah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm annie:

really??? the cello-toting blonde?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Jeff Golick:

(Admittedly, Lori Singer looks *a LOT* like Daryl Hannah in that movie.)
  2:46pm dan:

Not only that, that's her playing the cello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm annie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm annie:

that was the best part of that movie, heh, along with 7 other parts..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm chresti:

I would request anything from your 78s/shellac collection, for starters..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm annie:

so,now ihave to rethinkmy whole darryl hannah crush.....sigh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm chresti:

Another movie I missed
Avatar 2:49pm Brian in UK:

Saw Jon Hendricks at the National Jazz and Blues Festival Auguat '69, same weekend as Charlie Manson did his worst. He was scat singing with Yes' Jon Anderson for a couple of numbers. Strange but true. The Who topped the bill two weeks before Woodstock. They were wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Jeff Golick:

Pardon this inside baseball, but I find this fascinating: "Tinker and Evers feuded for many years. On September 14, 1905, Tinker and Evers engaged in a fistfight on the field because Evers had taken a cab to the stadium and left his teammates behind in the hotel lobby. They did not speak for years following this event. According to some tellings, Tinker and Evers did not speak to one another again following their fight for 33 years, until they were asked to participate in the radio broadcast of the 1938 World Series, between the Cubs and the New York Yankees. Neither Tinker nor Evers knew the other had been invited."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm chresti:

I guess her and Neil Young tied the knot (Hannah)
Avatar 2:52pm Brian in UK:

Uncle, typo on the Hilltoppers. Tom Waits for No One. Tee Hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm annie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm chresti:

Are there rodeos in Tokyo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm annie:

i did, however, cry when greg brown snarfed up whats'er name, iris dement
Avatar 2:56pm coelacanth∅:

i guess Daryl knew what she was getting into; Neil's been quite forthright about his romances taking a backseat to his music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm chresti:

Carrying on the tradition of infamy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm annie:

that might suit both of them, coe; they both are running some worthy causes
Avatar 2:58pm coelacanth∅:

you know my name (look up the number) took the b side to let it be. somebody at the label wasn't thinking, obviously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm annie:

Avatar 2:59pm coelacanth∅:

chresti, there will be, when our boys get there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm chresti:

When I first joined FB, after "liking" a Neil Young post, I got a message from a fake version of him, starting with "Hey Boo" then providing a number if I wanted to move in
Avatar 3:00pm Spaniel:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm chresti:
