From 2001, Frank's review of today's episode:

"I haven't yet had time to really let your cd sink in, maybe I shouldn't try.

I enjoy the complexity. Reminiscent of Firesign Theatre. I will say that I've heard a lot of Columbia-Princeton stuff that's vastly inferior to this. Also a lot of modern dance oriented stuff that sucks; there's nothing easier than to make a machine repeat itself .

I like the way you make rhythmic patterns out of the inadequate applause so much creative music gets, then segue into the censorship and unemployment issues.

Creating significant electronic music means being a theoretician, a philosopher, and it's a political act. Your music functions at those levels.

I like Short Attention Span for its density. I think on the whole the disc has an elegiac quality. The 'rock band' near the end bothers me; it seems like a giant step backwards.

I like words out of context like fragments of street conversation that seems inane, seems like you're alive to your surroundings, which an artist should be, to wake the rest of us up.

Good work . Keep it up."

Free103.9 is now Wave Farm, a/k/a WGXC Accra,NY
Avatar 11/16/20 3:03pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Henry Yes indeed!
Avatar 11/16/20 3:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I made a CD-length edit of this show, can't find it right now, used to be a lot of fun giving it out, other than that it sounds almost entirely unlike the shows that came before and after it.
Avatar 11/16/20 3:07pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Seems like somebody is making an unemployment claim live during the show. I sure hope it worked out for them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11/16/20 3:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I did my own little recording of annoying messages from the NYS Tax people just a few weeks ago.
Avatar 11/16/20 3:09pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Air it in 20 years
Avatar 11/16/20 3:12pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The lack of remastering in this one is almost charming.
Avatar 11/16/20 3:16pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ah, I must be hooking up a second device that's doing the looping. The early parts of shows often involved figuring out some audio trick during the show. No wonder I edited this out for the CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11/16/20 3:17pm Webhamster Henry:

A fanfare from Brazil.
Avatar 11/16/20 3:18pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Avatar 11/16/20 3:19pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I'm trying to comprehend how I'd already done 238 shows by this point
Avatar 11/16/20 3:20pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh, I can playlist it! Here goes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11/16/20 3:33pm Webhamster Henry:

Wendy Carlos is timeless. She just had a birthday too.

"Taped on Maxell MX-S 100, Dolby C"
Avatar 11/16/20 3:39pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I wonder if Carrie Dashow has any Wave Farm connection
Avatar 11/16/20 3:48pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I don't remember what I was using for the sampling/delay. It was software I think, something under Win95. AudioMulch perhaps? No, maybe it was WaveLab. I think I used it in a show once or twice ever. Didn't want to get artificially electronic sounding. Too much machine. But I always liked this segment.
Avatar 11/16/20 3:49pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Here I start staring at the recording cassette tape, so I can quickly flip it exactly as the last coated tape reaches the record head. Pretty sure I still have the tape deck (Denon). The rubber belt has to be so warped from not being used.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11/16/20 3:51pm Webhamster Henry:

I used to be pretty good at aircheck K7 flipping.
Avatar 11/16/20 3:51pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I didn't seem to miss anything!
Avatar 11/16/20 3:52pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I would listen to a supercut of tape flip moments
Avatar 11/16/20 3:52pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Commercial 8-track song fade out/ins would qualify I suppose
Avatar 11/16/20 3:55pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Here I'm playing MAME live. Obviously Robotron.

Avatar 11/16/20 4:13pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ooh using a microcassette player. Unmistakable seek sound. Presumably Carrie's.

Avatar 11/16/20 4:26pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh yeah, the whole thing recorded in mono.
Avatar 11/16/20 4:29pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I ought to live swap-in the stereo version of this
Avatar 11/16/20 4:31pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Avatar 11/16/20 4:42pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I was nervous playing this Go Home Productions track, thinking it must be one of those WFMU overplays. But it was only played once by Frank O'Toole in 2003, and Ken F a month later
Avatar 11/16/20 4:46pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Someone (a different Frank) reviewed the Elsewhere episode back in 2001:

"I haven't yet had time to really let your cd sink in, maybe I shouldn't try.
I enjoy the complexity. Reminisent of Firesign Theatre. I will say that I've heard a lot af Columbia-Princeton stuff that's vastly inferior to this. Also a lot of modern dance oriented stuff that sucks; there's nothing easier than to make a machine repeat itself . I like the way you make rhythmic patterns out of the inadequate applause so much creative music gets, then seque into the censorship and unemployment issues. Creating signifigant electronic music means being a theoretician, a philosopher, and it's a political act. Your music functions at those levels. I like Short Attention Span for it's density. I think on the whole the disc has an elegiac quality. The 'rock band' near the end bothers me; it seems like a giant step backwards. I like words out of context like fragments of street conversation that seems inane,
seems like you're alive to your surroundings, which an artist should be, to wake the rest of us up. Good work . Keep it up."

It was about pirate radio probably. I said something about people should develop their own patent-unencumbered software instead of depending on corporate stuff and got some crowd rousing...otherwise the panel was pretty silly.
