Avatar 8/28/19 5:27pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Welcome, fred, fleep, chresti, and Ike!
Avatar 8/28/19 5:31pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I had an edited version without the legal stuff, but I went back to lossless source for today and left all that in place for posterity.
Avatar 8/28/19 5:34pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Also went to back to lossless source for this one. 99% sure I excised all the underwriting announcements but advance apologies if irrelevant outdated commercial bit sneaks in.
Avatar 8/28/19 5:37pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

RIP the person I was filling in for 16 years ago
Avatar 8/28/19 5:39pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Also RIP Don Joyce who sat on a stage playing carts while a disco ball came as Spandau Ballet's This Much is True started playing near the end of a Negativland concert I attended in the early 2000's, and I knew one day I'd loop that on a show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 5:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Ken. When I was in junior high. I had a school notebook with that spinning rainbow design on the front. It did not do a thing to promote good study habits.
Avatar 8/28/19 5:47pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Franco You are getting sleeeeepy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 5:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Feeling loopy today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 5:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Come to think of it, it was a paper text book cover that came in a multi-pak. Covering my school books was the only time I ever opened them.

Avatar 8/28/19 6:20pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Indeed! I was subbing for a Saturday afternoon show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:21pm chresti:

sounds like, "look at dat", the phrase for never
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:23pm fred:

A proof of the good taste evident in this show is that I don't think it ever used a Felder loop. The mere thought would send Ike screaming
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:24pm chresti:

haha fred
Avatar 8/28/19 6:28pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I'm not following the Felder thing. I've used a lot of ridiculous pop artists, haven't I?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:29pm Carmichael:

i am indeed listening, although I'm working harder than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:30pm fleep:

The Felder thing is an atrocious song played every single week on Tuesday at 11 am, causing much distress among the delicate eared
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:32pm Carmichael:

And a twisted sadistic grin on the faces of others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:32pm chresti:

Garbage Time torture segment?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:34pm chresti:

I've heard about the Felder thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:36pm fleep:

And we all thought W was the worst it could get. Ha ha on us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:38pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8/28/19 6:40pm fred:

@fleep: makes me wonder how worse it will get

Hey good day!
Avatar 3:33pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Constantly Choking, happy in every time zone!
Avatar 3:34pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hans Zimmer should've credited Carl Orff's Gassenhauer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm geoff:

It’s amazing that he didn’t
Avatar 3:35pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

RIP Don Joyce who sat on a stage in NYC playing carts despite his dislike of travel while a disco ball appeared as Spandau Ballet's This Much is True started playing near the end of a Negativland concert I attended in the early 2000's, and I knew one day I'd loop that on a show.
Avatar 3:39pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Recently I was listening to the Ode to Joy yodelling/banjo fun theme from Coen brothers' Raising Arizona, credited to Carter Burwell, and went digging to figure out what the other part of it is that isn't from Beethoven's 9th, and discovered that the entire thing was directly lifted from a Pete Seeger piece from 1963.
Avatar 3:39pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

And then I dug further and realized that one was lifted from a 1937 piece by Sons of the Pioneers with Roy Rogers.
  3:40pm Listener Robert:

Negativland had concerts? I thought they existed only in analog tape space.
Avatar 3:41pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

They toured through my lands twice - once in the 90's bringing toasters burning toast during the show.
  3:42pm Listener Robert:

Oh, yeah, I heard about the toast. So they existed in toasterspace.
Avatar 3:44pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I also toured through their studio once during an OTE broadcast and joined in a bit. Very analog, just rang the doorbell while I was driving by across country in the middle of the night.
Avatar 3:47pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

which makes me think fondly of when I got my station's middle-of-the-night doorbell fixed, although I never got any cross-country drive-bys as a result. I did dangle a mic on a long cord out the window by said doorbell, though, which did get used sometimes.
Avatar 3:50pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Do I miss the horrid ice cream truck music loops outside my window? I did like when the knife sharpening truck would drive by ringing its bell. It always drove by too quickly for me to get out there with my dull knives. Too many stairs.
Avatar 3:52pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Now I'm marveling at how long earlier my 2001 field recordings felt to me when I first did this in 2003.
Avatar 3:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

which makes me think of the field recordings I made around then walking through the world trade center concourse (prob. on my way home from client work) which turned out to be marred by static because of what turned out to be a bit of aluminum foil lingering in the mic port of the recorder I'd borrowed from someone who'd done a stage show involving lots of foil in his costume. For future field recording sessions, I kept headphones on.
Avatar 3:57pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Portable DAT recorder. Still good after the poles shift?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm geoff:

Yes, but only in hand-to-hand combat
Avatar 3:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

It wasn't a binaural mic worn like headphones, but a two-headed mic I held out in front of me as I walked through all my favorite NYC places.
Avatar 3:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Wow I just smelled that foul smell that era of subway trains had.
Avatar 4:00pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm ifny:

I've been meaning to remind myself that nobody knows.

There are things we know that we don't know
Avatar 4:31pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

The choice is yours. We now know. Please be advised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm ifny:

Good point Ken. For example, with regards to the trouble I've seen.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm ifny:

Hmm, what an unexpected alternative to suspecting a friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm ifny:

Seems counterintuitive somehow.

Avatar 4:54pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oddly I was just reading about a baby squirrel in a box
