A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 27 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. (Visit homepage.)

Hello out there!
Avatar 10/2/13 2:02pm Bliss:

Hi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:03pm listener james from westwood:

good afternoon, kenzo & all!
Avatar 10/2/13 2:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh!
Avatar 10/2/13 2:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Already I have no idea what's happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:05pm listener james from westwood:

perfect way to be!
Avatar 10/2/13 2:06pm Davee:

What's all this then, amen!
Avatar 10/2/13 2:09pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

This is an impossible playlist to make. Just impossible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:09pm Rich in Washington:

I only just this weekend finally got around to watching Requiem for a Dream.
Avatar 10/2/13 2:11pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Rich: I'm sorry and happy for you! Horrible movie to watch, and remarkable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:13pm Carmichael:

Have you actually played all those songs in 12 minutes? Holy moley!
Avatar 10/2/13 2:15pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I'm missing A LOT. I'm trying to recognize things and some I can't remember.
Avatar 10/2/13 2:16pm Bliss:

Just watched the trailer for the movie.
Couldn't tell a lot. Lots of fast editing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:17pm listener james from westwood:

haven't been brave enough to watch "requiem," but i love the hell out of the "pi" soundtrack. (trippy film, too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:17pm Rich in Washington:

träp ovra raeh I kniht I.
Avatar 10/2/13 2:17pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Movie has a lot of fast editing. It's a nightmare for 90 minutes. Don't watch it if you're at all sensitive! Not like Pi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:18pm Rich in Washington:

I need to see Pi again. Soundtrack? I don't remember it. It is good?
Avatar 10/2/13 2:19pm Bliss:

Didn't see pi either, but thansk for the little review.
Real fast editing (relative, I know) is just something I do not enjoy.
Avatar 10/2/13 2:19pm ranjit:

Just now found this while doing some research: "why do you have the sound of a turtle mating call but not a sound of somebody clapping on the radio?" - twitter.com...
Avatar 10/2/13 2:22pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hm, Pete Heller or Peter Heller?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:24pm listener james from westwood:

most of pi's soundtrack is ambient and drum & bass from the late 90s, but there are a few clint mansell tracks on the track, as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:26pm listener james from westwood:

not the worst time to say to all: if you dig this chat feature, you're listening to the dj/tech whiz who created it. gotta be worth a pledge.

Matt, why don't you ever take my calls?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 2:48pm Matt from Springfield:

If your caller ID says "consumer research" or something like that, that's prob why I didn't pick up.

I love that You Have Nowhere to Go show.
It made me watch THX again after many years and got me sort of obsessed with it for a while. Especially the wonderful Lalo Schifrin music and Walter Murch's immersive sound design.

2012 will end, and we will be temporarily transported to a super-fast edit of "Children's Television Voteshop", originally from 2004, edited for a Frank O'Toole premium in 2007, and brought t oyou in...3 minutes!

That song is from Mary's show though, not Rhoda's.

Children's Television Voteshop is NOT going to be in the archive, but you can hear that full-length show at lastever.org... . It's different from what I'd make today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 4:04pm Matt from Springfield:

I like before show comments in general...you don't have to, but GTDR fans always seem to find shows that have yet to start with active comments, and participate.
Avatar 10/2/13 4:06pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Considering that Amanda's show is already on GTDR right before mine.... That means there are already two boards open (Duane and Amanda). Maybe three is too many!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10/2/13 4:07pm Matt from Springfield:

True, Amanda's can be responsible for before-show comments of this 4 hour "block" of live programming, and this show for after-block comments.
Avatar 10/2/13 4:07pm Bliss:

Would you say your shows have more space now?
It struck me that way comparing that small 2004 sample to later stuff.
More nuance now too, perhaps?
Avatar 10/2/13 4:10pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Bliss: That was also a 6-minute edit of a long show. I rarely do edits (it was commissioned for a compilation). So, a lot of space that was there got sucked out!

I think 2004 was in a very focused period. I did almost NOTHING else but work on those shows (2003-2005). And, half of them were constrained to 30-minute blocks; so, I had to accomplish a lot in a little space.
  10/2/13 4:10pm possibilitywaves:

Thank you endlessly Ken and everyone in this quilt of minds and hearts! it is astonishing to think from the end of last year to now; i somehow wished to form a 64-hour-day calendar just a few days before 2013 began. "today" is part of the 103rd day of the year using this calendar.
