Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Uncle Michael:

Did you know that Hinky Dinky Time has a phone number? You can call and leave a message with a show ID: (This is [listener name] and you're listening to Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael on WFMU's Give the Drummer Radio). (201) 204-9350.

Please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Uncle Michael:

Five weeks from today, on January 1st, 2021…the first Friday of the year, we’ll be creating something special, together. Uncle Michael will be presenting the fifth annual Hinky Dinky Time All Listener Request Program.

There are TWO ways to communicate your request for the show. The first way is to use the WFMU email form at: tinyurl.com... . The second way is to leave voice mail at (201) 204-9350. There is no third way. If you leave voice mail, you do so with the understanding that the audio of your request may be heard during the show, but that that’s not assured. The cutoff for requests is 12:00 PM CST on December 31, 2020.

Please do not begin submitting requests until the conclusion of today’s show.

A sophisticated algorithm will select requests for inclusion. The algorithm is inscrutable, complex and capricious. Don’t try and understand it. Our puny, moist brains cannot. You can submit multiple requests. The algorithm will select from among them. You may think you can beat the algorithm at Vulcan chess. Good luck with that.

If you plan to make multiple requests via voice mail, and hope to hear your mellifluous tones during the show, please leave a separate voice mail for each request. If you leave voice mail with a list of requests, your requests will be registered but the audio of your voice mail will not be usable. Please limit voice mail requests to a maximum of three.

Audio of requests received closer to the December 31 cutoff have a reduced chance of being included in the program.

Since the show has a finite duration, it’s entirely possible that not everyone who makes a request will be rewarded. If your feelings are easily bruised, you might refrain from making a request. The algorithm is the decider and it has no empathy.

It's chresti and Franco! Lovely seeing you two around the virtual dinner table yesterday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Franco Twinkie:

We have no turkey, cold or otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Pedro in Arlington:

Referring to my request last week for Wendy to help influence the establishment of fresh herring stands in the US like those in Holland, I gotta say cold herring from the supermarket is mostly a disappointment in either the wine or cream sauce. We are a struggling nation.
Avatar 12:07pm TDK60:

Wow, requests on Woofmoo radio! How rare. Let me think of something that the record buying public would like...something with a good beat that you can dance to. Or maybe not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm chresti:

Hi Rich, 'twas indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

david! Rich! Pedro! TDK60!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Uncle Michael:

TDK, requests are the most transgressive thing one can doooo on WoofMoo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

A guitarist on that "Cold Turkey" number is back in the news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Franco Twinkie:

Rich, that was a lot of fun. That 's the way it's going to be from here on out. I accept the terms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Pedro in Arlington:

Haven't checked the interwebs today for any traditional Black Friday retail tramplings. Hopefully they would be masked and socially distanced tramplings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm sinner:

What is it now? Liquor before beer....?
Avatar 12:10pm TDK60:

UM, Let me look up 'transgressive' and I'll get back in a minute..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm doctorjazz:

Well, I attended a Zoom Bris (ritual circumcision) this morning, BEAT THAT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Doug Schulkind:

He just teamed up with Van Morrison to record an anti-lockdown number. Arsehole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Pedro in Arlington: Cultural changes take time, especially those related to the various serving methods for herring. Please be patient with our nation's herring evolution.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm sinner:

Where's the Hinky Dinky Go-Go Dancers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm doctorjazz:

Yup, @Rich, no great views, but the little guy has some set of lungs!
  12:12pm dan:

I always thought the Fleetwood Mac before Buckingham and Nicks was much cooler.
Avatar 12:13pm TDK60:

Rich, don't know that show, yet. Which stream? / Oh 'transgressive' UM. Gotcha. / Chresti, \\ //.
  12:13pm Phillippe Bastille:

@hyde: Please explain. Beyond just chopping up cheese, what is chopped cheese? Enquiring minds want to know!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

Lawks like it, BiUK!
Avatar 12:17pm hyde:

@Wendy the chopped cheese is a lie. it's really hamburger chopped up and fried and then you melt some good ol' American cheese into it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@hyde: Sold! Do you deliver?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm MuttonChops:

Last song was perfect for my South Park game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Rich in Washington:

ok, I had to look up chopped cheese and now I want in.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Rich in Washington:

I made a poor man's croque monsieur the other night and it was too much so I cooked the leftovers inside of an omelette the following morning. I was in a cheese coma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Is it okay to request a chopped cheese? 'Cos if it's wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Pedro in Arlington:

Reports say two senior White House aides, a married couple no less, plan to relocate to New Jersey next year. No doubt to be closer to WFMU's terrestrial signal. Station Manager Ken needs to offer slots in the Skeleton Crew to these can-do kids.
Avatar 12:21pm TDK60:

Any kinds of music you absolutely won't play? Don't want to waste my request. Wait, algoriddims decide anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Doug "also an arsehole" Schulkind:

The arsehole is still an arsehole, but apparently, the anti-lockdown number with Van Morrison is intended to raise funds for musicians hurt by the lockdown. I retract my earlier statement.
Avatar 12:28pm hyde:

hah, it's fine. i called myself out. it's a "i haven't gone to church in forty years but i still have Catholic guilt" thing

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hi Uncle Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Uncle Michael:

Franco, I think turkey mole enchiladas are in my future.
  12:45pm Dean:

Great minds, UM. I'm planning on turkey enchiladas today. Not mole, though I do add dark chocolate to my enchilada sauce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Uncle Michael:

I used to do the mole enchiladas after every t-day but it's been years. I did boil the carcass for soup last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm doctorjazz:

Always plan on making soup from Turkey parts, then never get to it. Maybe this year.
  12:50pm Dean:

Was just my family of four, so on top of the huge lasagna, the dressing, mashed potatoes, and green beans w/ bacon, I only managed a turkey breast. I do miss having the carcass. Nothing like turkey broth for a great soup or risotto.
  12:50pm dan:

This Thanksgiving there's no turkey, but rather spaghetti and meatballs dinner later tonight. Original plans fell through so we improvised.

@hyde: What kinda bread did you use? Sub rolls?
Avatar 1:02pm hyde:

@Wendy I actually used a bulkie roll
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I never heard of chopped cheese either. Apparently I lived in the wrong neighborhoods in NYC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm coelacanth∅:

i've never heard of chopped cheese either.
cut, grated, sliced...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@hyde: Duly noted. I'm totally making this for myself soon. I just got a pound of ground beef from my CSA the other day. Thanks for the idea.
Avatar 1:04pm hyde:

@Wendy sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm coelacanth∅:

"chop" implies a cut straight down, without any back-and-forth (slicing) motion.
it just doesn't seem like it would work with most cheeses.
Avatar 1:05pm hyde:

@Wendy it might be better on a hoagie styly roll. the bulkie was a little bready
  1:06pm Dean:

I assume "chopped" refers to the mince, i.e., the ground beef. Thus, "chopped cheese" is kind of an inverted "cheese burger."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@coel: From what I can glean from the sandwich description, the "chop" -- the cut straight down -- is how you integrate the cheese into the meat. You use the spatula to chop the cheese into the burger while it's cooking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@hyde: It might be sacrilege, but I might use a potato bun (of the hamburger variety).
  1:08pm dan:

Not to be confused with a more famous Flying Circus from around the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm coelacanth∅:

ahh, that makes sense Wendy
Avatar 1:09pm hyde:

@Wendy that would work fine, i'd think
Avatar 1:10pm hyde:

@coel yeah, Wendy is right. I dunno though, the cheese is American so I didn't even bother to chop it in, it got all nice and melty anyhow
  1:10pm dan:

Another song will be The Who's "Run Run Run".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Now that this set has begun, I'm realizing there are many many many songs with the title "Run Run Run."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm coelacanth∅:

that makes sense too hyde. some cheese melts so easily it seems to disappear
  1:12pm Dean:

C/o wikiped., this NYT story. Also called "chop cheese."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Doug Schulkind:

To recap, friends, so far we've had Run, Run Run Run, Run Run Run, Run Run Run, Run Run Run, Run Run Run, Run Run Run, Run Run Run, Run, Run.
  1:30pm dan:

@hyde
What are the qualifications?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Uncle Michael:

I think you need to edit that post to get all the commas into their right places, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm chresti:

We got the runs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm doctorjazz:

Reminds me of the old tune, Bread and Butter.

Is Nancy talking about her Pa or Lee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

This is exactly what the doctor ordered to counter my tryptophan induced lethargy, UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm doctorjazz:

That's a lot of notes, even for Trane at this time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

Rich, glad to proved a lift.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Uncle Michael:

Doc, he had to use up the rest of his Miles notes before leaving. No point in saving them.
  2:12pm Dean:

Is Rich in Kitchenton the DJ and comment board regular a.k.a. Rich in Washingdishes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm doctorjazz:

:)
  2:15pm dan:

Interesting trivia, Cab Calloway's daughter was revealed to be Ja'Net Dubois aka Willona from "Good Times" and the singer of the Jeffersons theme.
Avatar 2:25pm TDK60:

A real swell line-up on that Everly album. But they don't say who played the groovy organ on this cut.

So, we either email you directly with the twelve requests you guarantee you'll play or leave them here in the comments?
  2:33pm Dean:

You might want to do an email form or take voice messages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

I'll think about it, Dean.

Song always brings me back to Dazed and Confused, which brings me back to high school. (all in a good way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

Yeah, that movie nails it. I assume the hazing thing that high school hazing thing was real in Texas if foreign to me.
Avatar 2:48pm TDK60:

What was that stuff you sprayed onto the LP? (It wasn't chopped cheese spray, we can eliminate that.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm jmd:

This is great! My first concert was Cheap Trick (Moon Martin/Ravens opening) and a tough one to top. Hey Uncle and all!
Avatar 2:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hullo !
WiFis I steal back on in my trap
- but for devices I'm down to my poor little iPod : streams like a champ but struggles to chat @ the same time : an arrangement a certain %age of FMU-igentsia might consider ideal...
Anywho listening & digging.
  2:49pm Dean:

Recorded at the Whisky '77, possibly the show I attended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm doctorjazz:

My video feed worked for a while, then stopped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Uncle Michael:

Just some canned air. There was some schmutz and I'd already cued the record. I literally never did that before.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Stanley:

  2:55pm Dean:

Saw them four tours running in the early years. The bigger the venue, the more I enjoyed the show, oddly.
Avatar 2:55pm TDK60:

Those Cheap Tricksters rock. / Gracias, DJ UM. I'll think of a request soon...
  2:57pm dan:
