Avatar 3:01pm monkeyz:

and it's train hopping time again! hello david et alii!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm fred:

Good evening David and listeners
Avatar 3:01pm βrian:

Good afternoon. (CST)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Michael 98145:

Guten Tag - gute Nacht
Avatar 3:03pm northguineahills:

Still waiting for my train, at least I'm at the right station.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm David D:

All times good, monkeyz, fred, βrian, Michael...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm David D:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Michael 98145:

from the photo, it would appear we'll be waiting a very long time for that train -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David D:

Yes, Michael, not many trains go there anymore, but you can skateboard inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Stanley:

"Single, please"
"Senior's reduction, sir?"
"I'm afraid I only look ancient"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm David D:

Stanley, tickets are on the train - figuratively that is.
Avatar 3:08pm Sem:

"Smoking car?"
"Smoking fish car?"

Not fussy, just curious. Hello, David, fellow passengers, the ticketless, the smokeless, the smokedfishless, and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm fleep:

The smoking fish car would be a loxcar.
Avatar 3:09pm Sem:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm David D:

Loxcar -that is the secret word!
Avatar 3:13pm Sem:

Pavoratti performed in Nova Scotia one time, but only if 25 pounds of Willy Krauch smoked Atlantic salmon was part of the deal.

He sang magnificently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm David D:

Okay, it wasn't, but it should have been.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm fred:

@David: I heard that another David has boarded the drummer stream, sounds good to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm chresti:

Hello-jumping on!
Avatar 3:15pm TDK60:

What am I doing here unexpectedly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David D:

Fred, yes Dave Sewelson, a great addition to the stream. His show will be following Mayuko, Saturdays 2-5pm.
Avatar 3:17pm northguineahills:

Ah, Gary played this earlier....
Avatar 3:17pm monkeyz:

is that picture in that territory behind the trainstation that soon will become silly bland meatsackcubes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David D:

Hey chresti and TDK60 - and fleep and Sem from before...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David D:

Monkeyz: That's near MDR actually.
Avatar 3:19pm monkeyz:

good, i feared it might be gone soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm David D:

NGH: Yes, this is a big Drummer Stream hit apparently - I had no idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm David D:

Monkeyz: Yes, I wonder if anyone will ever get around to putting all that land around there "to use".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm doctorjazz:

You can never have too many Davids I always say!.
Hi all!
Avatar 3:29pm TDK60:

..maybe missed above, but is the photograph of an old train station in your German city? (Leipzig?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Mark Hurst:

Hi David! Good show today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm David D:

Hello and thanks, Mark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm David D:

And Doctorjazz!
Avatar 3:36pm monkeyz:

i nearly jumped out of my easy chair to dance before my brain told me not to cause i only had a mere hour of sleep today, so id probably fainted. thanks for being a health hazard in the best way possible!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm David D:

TDK60: That is an old abandoned train yard in Leipzig, hard to find but worth it.
Avatar 3:37pm northguineahills:

Well, that was an adventure, I put ghost peppers (from my garden) in my ramen broth. That woke me up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm David D:

NGH, send some to monkeyz!
Avatar 3:40pm northguineahills:

Not sure if I can throw that far, but I do have 40 in my fridge and many more still in the garden.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Parq:

Hi, David. Lovely to hear Susana Baca, whose "Maria Lando" is a personal favorite of mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm David D:

Hello Parq, yes quite a lovely voice.
Avatar 3:49pm TDK60:

Train yard of course, not a station.
Avatar 3:53pm TDK60:

Gotta be Welsh, eh?
Avatar 3:53pm Sem:

Avatar 3:55pm TDK60:

I visited southwest England last summer. I heard a vacationing family speaking Welsh; maybe Cornish, but probably Welsh as Cornish is much rarer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm David D:

That's great to hear - glad people are still speaking Welsh with their kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm fred:

@ngh: There's a soup place near my workplace where people choose the level of heat on a scale of 0 to 5. I've never been there (I don't eat lunch) but I've yet to hear of anyone finishing the level 5
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm David D:

I might go for a 2 and maybe reach for a 3.
Avatar 4:11pm northguineahills:

@fred: I've made soups spicier before, to where I'm leaking fluid from every orifice in my face, and my tinnitus comes back, as I sweat so much it looks like I went for a run. That's about my limit, and not something I need to repeat.

When I go to Indian/SE Asian restaurants, I ask for it Indian/Thai hot, and am still usually disappointed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Stanley:

TDK60 - I passed a school in Edinburgh recently, just as the kids were coming out and they were excitedly speaking Gaelic with each other. Of course, it was a Gaelic school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Webhamster Henry:

@ngh: vindaloo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm David D:

Hello Henry, sounds good to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Stanley:

Web Henry - then there is a phall:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi David - I was in a meeting, but now am on the continental subway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm David D:

Welcome a-board (meeting?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Webhamster Henry:

Sometimes the super heat is kind of overpowering. Sometimes it hits the spot. I think I'll just chew on a pepper now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Webhamster Henry:

Interesting interpretation of Bartok.
Avatar 4:29pm northguineahills:

My comment didn't go through (laptop crashed), as you know, you can tell croat/serb apart from whether they use the latin/Cyrillic alphabet....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm chresti:

Jamaican curry and jerk chicken, has plenty of heat, with scotch bonnet.
Avatar 4:39pm northguineahills:

My scotch bonnets didn't take this year. I love making jerk sauce from scratch, but it takes a bit....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm chresti:

Is Leipzig near Karlsbad? We have friends there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm David D:

Chresti - not too far, maybe 3 hours by train or so. I was there once, beautiful old spa town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm doctorjazz:

Haven't heard this in ages .. not the B52s that usually is on the air
Avatar 4:50pm Listening Out There:

Viva Lost Wages...
Avatar 4:51pm Sem:

Avatar 4:51pm northguineahills:

My newish laptop doesn't have MS Office (updating my resume right now), so after multiple tries, I just used my old work credentials (for those that don't know, 1/4 of my office got laid off last Thurs).
Avatar 4:53pm Listening Out There:

northguineahills: My sympathy. I've gone through several tech layoffs meself...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm David D:

NGH: Sorry to hear that - do you mean you were as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Michael 98145:

yes. good luck, @ngh.

our country is crumbling before our eyes.
Avatar 4:56pm monkeyz:

exactly what was needed . boink .
Avatar 4:57pm monkeyz:

actually everything crumbles. gonna move a mountain or two now.
Avatar 4:59pm monkeyz:

somehow i've got a picture of dr. strangelove in my head now.
Avatar 4:59pm Listening Out There:

Thanks for the accurate attribution, Generous Host! I am lowly and unworthy... :)
Avatar 5:02pm TDK60:

Back, after a subway ride across New York City.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm David D:

LOT: You are modest for sure!
Avatar 5:04pm northguineahills:

yeah, the last four hired. EPA was gutted this year, and last week the new FL governor's budget was released and slashed the state parks and reallotted the FL DEP budget to focus more on drinking and waste water, and getting rid of red tide (since that's what the rich constituents want). 90% of our budget was from gov't sources, at all levels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm David D:

NGH, that is terrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm David D:

NGH: Well good luck, I hope you find the right sort of thing soon.
Avatar 5:12pm northguineahills:

There are probably as many jobs in my field here as there was in NYC, but half of them here are environmental, so, they're probably in the same boat we're in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Michael 98145:

too bad he can't get more obsessed about the environment instead of his damned wall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm David D:

NGH: Would you be able to relocate again?
Avatar 5:18pm TDK60:

Neither main U.S. party is *obsessed* with the environment which in my eyes makes both criminal.
Avatar 5:18pm northguineahills:

Well, it cost me $2K to move mostly just recs and books from NYC, and I can't see any other town in FL other then St Augustine or Key West I'd live in willingly.... (besides the one I'm in).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm David D:

Yes, we do need to all become obsessed with just that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Carmichael:

Jaysis, what a day. Up to my butt in alligators. Heya David and fancy music listeners, play me some comfort ...
  5:21pm spodiodi:

odd day, for sure
Avatar 5:22pm northguineahills:

@Carmichael: In Gainesville, every day I up to my but in alligators (UF Gator country).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm David D:

Hey Carmichael and Spodiodi!
Avatar 5:23pm northguineahills:

A song about singing in Japanese in Japanese?
Avatar 5:23pm TDK60:

I've heard Gainesville is pleasant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Carmichael:

Sheez ngh, come out to California. You might actually like it, if you ignore all the claptrap about it. The economy is rock solid, and lots of good jobs.
Avatar 5:24pm TDK60:

Far out, man.
  5:24pm spodiodi:

rife with tech bros
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Michael 98145:

unfortunately, almost everywhere with jobs is rife with tech bros
  5:26pm spodiodi:

ye canna win
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm fred:

@ngh: could your line of work be done from home? That would open up the search area. I mean, I have 6 bosses (gained a new one yesterday) and I might see one a month at most.
I don't want to work from home to have to chance to meet weird composers, and because work is more than half the way to show venues for after work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Webhamster Henry:

@ngh I actually have a song about corporate layoffs:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Carmichael:

Friggin' coders, Michael 98145. You're in the midst of it up there, no??
Avatar 5:29pm TDK60:

Wait till Amazon and Google *both* open their new massive offices here in NYC. Eek. There will go yet another friendly bodega, and be replaced by a snooty yogurt boutique; on and on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm doctorjazz:

Got some concerts happening, psyched! Tonight , Steve Earle (if I ever get out of the office). In a week or so, Andy Statman at an orthodox temple in New Jersey.
Avatar 5:30pm TDK60:

docjazz: where is Steve Earle tonight?
Avatar 5:34pm northguineahills:

Most jobs I've worked in the past from home were only for projects lasting a few weeks to a month or so, so I was looking for work as often as I was working. Working from home also gives me cabin fever (you should have see when my wife were both working from home side by side, we nearly killed each other w/in a week [don't have that problem now])
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Michael 98145:

@Carm, up to our elbows in it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

I just had an employee go out on stress leave, leaving a forest of unfinished paper and angry customers. I'm the manager left holding the bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Michael 98145:

i played manager once. that was enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm doctorjazz:

Never got to see him in concert (saw him do 2 songs at a tribute, but not a full set. Psyched
Avatar 5:39pm TDK60:

I like S. Earle; he's got a thing or two to say.
Avatar 5:40pm Listening Out There:

Ahem. Aside from work, should be talking about something pleasanter like...the great music on this program! :)
Avatar 5:41pm northguineahills:

Stress leave is a thing? I'd never be working, as when am I never stressed? (see the psychosomatic effects on my corporeal existence). Which reminds me, I need to ask my dr. for new prescriptions, as I don't know when I'll have insurance againe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Michael 98145:

there is -always- great music on this program
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm David D:

Thanks, LOT and Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm David D:

All topics are welcome of course. Life isn't always pleasant...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Carmichael:

@Michael, in about a year it will be enough. I'm retiring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Michael 98145:

if life were always pleasant, we'd be rich and bankrolling WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Michael 98145:

@Carm, i'm eyeing the prize, too
Avatar 5:47pm Listening Out There:

I Think We're All Geezers On This Bus... :)

Fond of fonts..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm fred:

@Michael 98145: I'm probably projecting from my own experience, but listening to WFMU doesn't seem conducive to getting rich enough to bankroll it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm chresti:

Yay! Geezer bus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm chresti:

LA city employees can take leave for about anything, full time employees, that is
Avatar 5:54pm Sem:

Been a fun, fun, fun time this evening, David. This is my stop, hope to see you and the geezers on the bus in the future. It's starting....now.
Avatar 5:54pm northguineahills:

I have to admit, I'm not familiar w/ Theodore Antoniou.

I'm approaching geezerhood (bicentennial baby).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm David D:

Thanks, Sem, have a great night in the future...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm David D:

Fred: That sounds like a fatal flaw, and yet the miracle persists...
Avatar 6:02pm TDK60:

..a klezmer concerto, huh; don't know much about klezmer music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm David D:

Orchestral klezmer is rather atypical of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm fred:

Klezmer probably isn't that common in Catalonia either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Michael 98145:

liking this. thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm David D:

Okay, a little klezmer then from the other side of the pond and tracks...
Avatar 6:27pm TDK60:

..saw a Yiddish-singing anarcho-feminist punk band at a block party a few years back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm David D:

TDK60: Now you're talking!
Avatar 6:30pm TDK60:

..don't know Yiddish but I can safely say, that band weren't schmucks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm David D:

Do you know the name of the band?
Avatar 6:36pm TDK60:

Gosh no, I'd have to look around or ask...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm chresti:

I hear Klezmer on the shirley and Spinoza radio stream
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm David D:

TDK60: No worries, I was just curious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm doctorjazz:

OK, off to the big city ,thanks David (Steve Earle and David Sewelson need to have a Best Beard competition one of these days)
Avatar 6:45pm TDK60:

David, I can find out eventually, get back to you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm David D:

Thanks, doctorjazz - have a great time!
