Subject: Debris guitarist dies...

Mike,

You may already know about this, but just in case you haven't heard

My name is Lance Zechinato (I also go by Goocher), and I was a close
friend of Oliver Powers, the guitarist and founder of proto-punk band DebriS
out of Oklahoma (circa 1975). It's been a difficult couple weeks for me
since he passed. He died of a sudden/unexpected brain hemorrhage the
Saturday before last (Saturday, 23-June-2001). Oliver was only 48 and in
good health, lean, etc. He was with his wife Anita, their sons Isaiah and
Micah, his two older brothers & their wives, his mom and his aunt. The were
all vacationing together, having a combo vacation/family reunion, at a beach
in NC (I forget which one, a popular one though), he had finished making a
sand sculpture of a crab, reached down to get something from the cooler, and
collapsed. They brought in a chopper to lift him to the hospital. Isaiah
told me that Oliver's eyes were dilated and his body was limp. At first he
could respond by squeezing their hands, but he faded from there. His collapse was on
Friday afternoon, and died on Saturday morning the 23rd of June.

Anyway, not that it would be important to you necessarily, but I happened to
find your WFMU page doing an AltaVista search for Debris AND (Static Disposal).
I figured, as a Debris fan, you'd be interested.

Take care,
- Gooch -
