@Sylvia: so much is in abeyance, as we're trying to make it to the vaccine.
FYI, on the radio yesterday, it was stated that the vaccine does not prevent a person from contracting covid. It prevents a person from getting sick from it, NOT from getting and passing along. Something to bear in mind. Even more important, then, that enough people get it to create here immunity, or we will be in the weeds for a long time.

So important! I am just at the point of almost viscerally missing museums, coffee places, meeting others; even the campus art gallery and cafe! The vaccine will not act as a preventive and that has to be publicized by the powers that are. In the meantime I am pondering the safety of an hour's visit to the Montclair Art Museum. Deborah, I hear you. The only museum I've been to since early 2020 was the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Met a friend I hadn't seen in a very long time, went early. Only 25% capacity allowed, but it didn't reach that until the afternoon, if at all. Great museum, and great to reconnect with a friend who had lived out of the USA for decades. That was a couple of weeks ago.
I may try and go to the Whitney...

that Yakka Doon track was lovely. I felt like I knew exactly who it was without being able to put a name to it, it sounded so assured and familiar, but I don't actually recognise the name at all. Though I see now she's from County Durham and that she supported the incredible Richard Dawson this year, which is a stamp of approval (you really should have a listen to him if you don't know him already)

@YETI BOB, I was only there once. Need to revisit!
Zoot, I just read Portrait of Doctor Gachet, by Cynthia Saltzman, about the great portrait. Never been to The Netherlands, but the Van Gogh Museum is on my list!

Fascinating book, by the way...

@Jeffrey.Is that the painting that he used to patch his chicken coop?
Avatar 8:35am
Zoot:

Will order the book.

Hi from Holland:

Very nice transition from Arborea -> Karima Walker -> Time and Temperature. Now if the neighbors could stop using their power drill that would be even nicer :)

Deborah:

Just reserved a ticket for Dec. 25. Excited! Have to make sure that the museum is open that day, however. Might move it up if I cannot wait. I have reached that point; took a while.

Jeffrey Davison:

Zoot, no...not so far as I know! Saltzman mentions a painting (and maybe there is more than one) where van Gogh attached a piece of a towel to a canvas, as that was all he had at hand!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am
Jeffrey Davison:

Zoot, since the book was published, the painting has changed hands two times. Amazing story. In a similar vein, The Vanishing Velasquez, by Laura Cumming. Perhaps an even more riveting tale.

Portrait of Dr Felix Rey.That’s the one that patched the chicken coop.

Listener Bop Monroe:

"After fifteen days in the hospital, Vincent returned to his yellow house. Not long after, he painted the doctor who was taking care of him for so many days. Although Dr. Rey accepted the portrait as the gift it was, in later years he admitted he never liked it. In fact, his mother used the painting to patch a hole in the chicken-coop, until it was sold in 1901 to the artist Charles Camoin, a friend of Henri Matisse, who followed in Van Gogh’s footsteps and went to Arles, where he found the portrait in Doctor Rey’s backyard. Now it is in the collection of the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow."

@jeffrey I was sure you'd know Richard Dawson, and certainly much of what he does might not be a great fit for this show, but there's no right or wrong in what grabs you! But when I watched a (remote) concert of his recently I was a bit of a wreck after watching his final a cappella song, Ghost Of A Tree. Good lord, what a story he can tell, and with what power!

Jeffrey Davison:

@Bop Monroe: wow.
@jeremyo: Dawson is a great musician. He may be one of those who I don't fully appreciate right away, but one day in the future, I'll be listening to the radio and it'll hit me.

This New Bums has a bit of a Velvets vibe, to me...

@Yeti Bob, no definitely the same guy ;-)
@Zoot black humoured indeed! And bursting with compassion and insight. I was also a bit slow to pick up on him, saw him on TV, thought it incredible but couldn't quite get to grips with it. His most recent album sorted me out. And the Hen Oggledd after that.
Thanks for the fab show @Jeffrey!

Marc Francis:

@Jeffrey Davison: Their sound changed a lot over their career but there was this period with an album called Screamadelica, the Dixie Narco EP, and Give Out But Don't Give up that has a sound and feel like that New Bums song.
