In the waning days of the Family Dog at The Avalon, when they were broke, they printed posters in monotone. Super collectable cause they did short runs.

There is a new book called Dreams Unreal, put out by The University of New Mexico Press. A real beauty, and well researched too.
Avatar 1:12am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

Oh yeah? I'll have to look that one up. There was that book Rock Posters but it was a very lare tome but just an overview
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am
Franco Twinkie:

No book has ever been all inclusive, the genre was too unwieldly.

Just found it - man this is a nice book. May have to secret santa myself.

Avatar 1:26am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

Yes I am, not as much as way back when. In NY we had the Psychedelic Solution (90's) so most of my posters came from there

I was in a group show at The Psychedelic Solution.

Pretty much - I was raised on Nat. Lampoon, fantastic Planet, Yellow Submarine. I remember the first comix I ever saw was Zap 3 when I was six
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am
Franco Twinkie:

I was at the drag strip when I saw my first underground comix. Some older guys were sitting behind me and my dad, and they had a pile. I kept craning my neck to see what the hell they were looking at. The one that stood out was Yellow Dog by Jaxson. The one with the caveman roasting a dog in the fire. I was 13 years old.
Avatar 1:58am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

Man, Yellow Dog now that's something you rarely see. Jaxson was great, Irons too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am
Franco Twinkie:

Yeah, those guys were terrific. At that point things started coming into focus for me.
Avatar 2:02am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

The first crack of trouble maker. Once I read Zap 3 as a little kid regular comics seemed like bullshit. Ruined me haha
Avatar 2:02am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

I didn't know what was going on in the Zap strips but nothing looked like Griffin, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am
Franco Twinkie:

Greg Irons also did some posters, but mostly comix. Died way to young in such a stupid way.
Avatar 2:04am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

Oh yes. The posters are a little second tier but the Comix, wow.
Avatar 2:05am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

What I also liked with Iron's is for a underground cartoonist he could write a pretty cohesive story line too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am
Franco Twinkie:

With me, it started with the posters. We in San Francisco in 1967, and they were everywhere.

Avatar 2:09am
The Ayatolluh of Rock 'n Rolluh:

Oh yeah makes sense. You really didn't see them in NY even in collector circles. At most the off Griffin or Moscoso, but Comix were everywhere. You'd find them even at comic cons. If it wasn't the heavy heavy hitters you could score them pretty cheep, even for a teen age me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am
Franco Twinkie:

Since the posters were meant to be see in public, they were rarely smutty. But the comix, oye! Just the other morning my girlfriend said " Who was that guy that drew those filthy pirates? That's who you remind me of when you get up in the morning."
