This is a beautiful movie, too. Fellini's first color feature
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’ve seen them both on the big screen. Probably one of the biggest things I’ve missed since I moved down here is the plethora of repertory cinema options in NYC. DVDs/Blu-ray/streaming/illegal downloads are great but sitting in a dark theater is one of my favorite things to do. Unfortunately moviegoing in New Orleans is sorely lacking.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes indeed. Seeing these movies on the big screen makes a difference. Unfortunately art houses are closing all over the place due to covid. We lost two locally
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Big Tati fan here as well
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Love Monsieur Hulot.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
Funky16Corners:

Tati kind of blows my mind because he's known as a physical comedian, but he was a brilliant filmmaker as well. The imagery in his films is remarkable.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Funky16Corners:

I have the Criterion Collection Complete Tati set. It's incredible, lots of extras
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Funky16Corners:

The music to his films is kind of hard to find. The soundtracks didn't get individual releases (that I know of) and the music is collected on a couple of CDs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Me too. Agreed.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

This reprise of the theme is lifted directly from the soundtrack of the film
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I saw the Parade soundtrack on LP in Japan in the early 2000s but didn’t buy it as it was expensive and I wasn’t heading home right after I visited Japan. It was a relatively recent release at the time on a Japanese label.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Funky16Corners:

If anyone was going to put these out, it'd have to be the Japanese. In fact one of the Tati soundtrack collections is a Japanese release
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Funky16Corners:

IMDB says that the composer for Parade was Charles Dumont (who I'm not familiar with), The two Tati soundtrack collections I have omit Parade
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

These are all wonderful!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:42pm

If you haven't seen the movies you should. Really special stuff.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Also, the music choices are in connection with films (yes, 35mm!) I have recently seen - Amarcord and Monsieur Hulot's Holiday, the former this October and the latter one just a few days ago in fact.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Well, that works out nicely!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
Funky16Corners:

I apologize if this is turning into Film Theory 101. I should have cued up the actual movies somewhere so you could all watch along with the music
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
Funky16Corners:

This theme is called 'Cadillac', you'll hear it again in the pieces from 8 1/2.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
Funky16Corners:

I first heard it done by Combustible Edison
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

La Dolce Vita - another "recent" watch - late last year or early this year, can't remember - but not from film but some digital format, though also in a cinema. What surprised me was that I did NOT like it that much, the younger me did though, previous to this cinema screening I saw it twice from an off-air VHS. Maybe I am a snob who does not like digital movie remasters, or just more stupid while getting older...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Funky16Corners:

I think between La Dolce Vita (which is more famous) and 8 1/2 (which is a work of genius, maybe one of the best movies ever made) there's a huge gap
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@3:57 Funky16Corners: no apologies necessary methinks. This show rocks, if you can say that. In the cas of La Dolce Vita I love the music, I guess a lot more than the movie itself.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Funky16Corners:

I don't find my way back to rewatching LDV as much as 8 1/2 which I will always stop to watch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Well, as there seem to be huge gaps in my knowledge of movies, music, books etc. - I gotta admit I have yet to see 8 1/2!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Funky16Corners:

Set aside some time an watch it. An absolutely brilliant movie in the telling/filming/acting/music.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Funky16Corners:

I aid to someone the other day that 8 1/2 is the best looking black and white film I know of (except maybe Kurosawa's Rashomon)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Will do!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm

It's like I never knew that there were so many subtle shades of gray and stark blacks and whites

Funky16Corners:

Now I'm trying to remember the context of Jingle Bells in La Dolce Vita
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Funky16Corners:

Rota uses an electronic keyboard on these soundtracks that has a very unique sound. I wish I knew what it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Little Danny:

Hi Larry, hi all
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm

Hey Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm

Jingle Bells was in the last section at the villa. I can’t recall the context.

Yes! I run hot and cold on Spielberg, but I like this one a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I remember enjoying the soundtrack to this film when I saw it in the theater. Have never seen it since.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Funky16Corners:

It caught my ear while watching the film, too. When I eventually bought it I ended up with one of those Academy Awards CDs they send out to voters
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Funky16Corners:

I think we may run a little but over today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Matt from New Orleans:

When I saw 2002, I was surprised but then again Leo was still relatively young and playing a younger character so it makes sense.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm

Yeah, it's like the last 20 years have gone by in the blink of an eye
