I love the piano because you can make so much sound with it, nice thick chords, one of the best instruments for playing solo. But I hate the piano because it forces you into equal temperment, no alternate tunings, bending notes, etc.

@Webhamster Henry: Thanks for sharing, I'll listen later! I know some composers have written for retuned pianos (eg Lou Harrison). But it's a lot of work to retune a piano, beyond the reach of most players. (And of course with digital keyboards you can tune them however you like, but that's a different beast)

@HH: Yeah, we're going to try some non-urban kayaking for a change. I've never been to this stretch of river but it's supposed to have some limestone cliffs and wildlife. About an hour out of the city. We're planning to park a bicycle downstream, then drive back upstream and launch ourselves. Will report back!
