Good morning. Periscope is up but the ears are definitely down below in the theme park!

Howlin Blind Scotsman:

This Alan Peters tank reminds me of a Kenyan guy called Ayub Ogada. Released one great album on Real World and did the Constant Gardner soundtrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18am
Meghan:

Good morning Phillippe!

Howlin Blind Scotsman:

Very folksy this morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am
Meghan:

Just this set... One of those things where I came across a lot of these as "new to me" tracks. Must have been in that mood!
Avatar 7:22am
leshwatt:

Good vibe to go along with a nip in the air this morning

Absolutely gorgeous today. Woke up early and watched the sunrise.

I like Sharon Van Etten's version of End of the World

Theme of the day, Meghan? Like the old UTP show....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34am
Meghan:

Ha, just for a set... I almost went down the rabbit hole, but thought it might be a bit too much doom and gloom!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35am

Good morning, Meghan and underwater campers. TGIF.

Well you know me.... I can't resist!

Howlin Blind Scotsman:

Has anyone read Chris Frantz's book yet? I want to but he seems to spend every interview talking about how he hates David Byrne. It puts me off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am
StringOFperils:

I got to go up north a bit last week to a borrowed cottage, on a lake. Watched the Perseid meteor shower. Beautiful. I think it's the first time I've seen the night sky since sometime in the 1990s. O modernity.......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am
Phillippe Bastille:

Ha, I'm with you! Never understood the appeal of jam bands. I soooo tried to get into the Dead because I have a lot of friends who were into it back in the day. Just. Could. Not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am
Meghan:

I knew the book was out but hadn't heard any interviews or reviews. I can understand why that would put you off...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am
Meghan:

Oh that sounds like perfection StringOFperils.... a lake house retreat.... soak it all in!
  7:57am
Howlin Blind Scotsman:

Jam bands have no soul. It’s as simple as that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am
Phillippe Bastille:

I did like the tie dyes, however
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am
Meghan:

hahaha, the apparel! too funny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am
Meghan:

I think it's also the fan base that turned me off... and most likely before I ever listened to the band....
  8:04am
Howlin Blind Scotsman:

Also if your music comes with a tie-dye teddy bear with the logo on it you can Count me out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Meghan, the fishin' DJ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06am
Meghan:

good morning Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am
StringOFperils:

Maybe jam bands (and 17 minute drum solos) were put here to make us better appreciate the musics that we really DO like. And maybe, if that frisbee-launching tie-died ectomorph doesn't seem to be me, then, that also could be instructive. Just cogitatin' here.....
  8:11am
Howlin Blind Scotsman:

I now go help Jobby Jay launch a missile. Thanks for the great start to the day M
Avatar 8:14am
leshwatt:

I’m a Deadhead from way back, loved the scene until it became big and bloated and popular. Jam band phenomenon took off from there. From honest and humble beginnings.......

Those old shows in small places sure were fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am
Meghan:

Leshwatt, I think that is for most bands.... small shows are always the best. Hope the small venues can make it through all this....
Avatar 8:19am
leshwatt:

Loud bands in small rooms. Grimey floors. Clanking beer bottles heard between songs. Sweaty mash of people up front. Cool night air filtering through near the exits. Miss it Meghan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am
WR:

Connected and floating along on this nouveau psychedelic set. Next step..... caffeine?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am
Meghan:

Hey there WR! caffeine is always a good choice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am
StringOFperils:

I've never paid much attention to the Dead's touring scene, but I grew to like their music a lot, over quite a long time. I like bluegrass, and older country music, and psychedelic studio sorcery, and poetry. I like them. To tell the truth, I'm not really clear about what constitutes a 'jam band'? I think it means something like Dave Matthews, but I'm not sure. I should try to be there for UM later.
Avatar 8:24am
leshwatt:

StringOFperils, Garcia/Hunter one of the best songwriting duos in my opinion. Weir/Barlow not too shabby either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am
Phillippe Bastille:

I sorta felt like the instrumental breaks were designed so the musicians would stop playing when they got bored, which was usually about 5 minutes after I got bored. I hope that doesn't sound as judgmental as it probably is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am
Phillippe Bastille:

Love this Carla Del Forno. Hard pressed to say if I've ever disliked anything she did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am
Meghan:

StringOFperils- I'd say the Dead were the top of the jam band spectrum... with songs going on for 20 minutes, like an instrumental gap where they can freeform their music. I just found that it sounded like they forgot what they were playing. For modern, you then get to Phish, who have a similar following
Avatar 8:33am
leshwatt:

The music always worked better live, in a roomful of like minded people. The groove in the audience was almost as important as the groove on the stage.

Wasn’t quite the same listening to the long jam s in your living room maybe
Avatar 8:34am
leshwatt:

Thanks guys, off to work!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am
Meghan:

I will say that I do like the stuff that Garcia did with the bluegrass and sea shanties....
