Fox:

I actually saved a piece of broken luggage from the attic of my Aunt/Gramma's house, because I can open it up and smell inside and it smells like my childhood. That and the chifferobe that was in my childhood bedroom in which me and my friends would climb together to look at my gramma's glow in the dark rosary.
Avatar 3:30am
Fox:

Gooooood evening Carol!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am
coelacanth∅:

Fox i appreciate that. smells initially bypass the part of the brain that analyzes the senses so we have subconscious reactions to them before we consciously think about them. (you probably know this)
... lately i've been reminded of my grandmother because of the smell of surfaces that've been cleaned with a bleach solution!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
mariano:

Some nice guitar chuggery in this Easter Monkeys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
coelacanth∅:

...and i once got a gift of leatherwood honey that tasted just okay but the smell awakened a significant memory. i ate it down to about an inch up in the jar so i could keep having that aroma available.
alas when i opened it a couple of years later it didn't smell like much of anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am
mariano:

It's amazing how scent can affect memory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am
coelacanth∅:

...and how chuggery can remind me of barracuda-which brings me straight to a certain group of people from my teenage years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am
Emily L:

So far as band names, you could do worse than Leatherwood Honey and Glow in the Dark Rosary
Avatar 3:49am
spodiodi:

haha
Avatar 3:52am
slugluv1313:

greetings, Emily, Carol, everyone!
still here! but kinda fading . . .
yes, so weird how scent can stir up memories . . . there was some raspberry-scented item (forgetting what!) that took me back to Summers when i was a kid, there was this raspberry-scented shampoo i used in the outdoor shower during the week my Mom and younger sister spent at Bay Head
and so true, what may seem "useless" and insignificant to some can hold meaning for others -- i totally ditched all those coupons! but saved all the blank greeting cards my Mom had collected over the years :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am
coelacanth∅:

haha yeah. leatherwood honey is really good blues rock with a hint of prog. they may be from denmark or the netherlands and are probably all female.
glow in the dark rosary is a punky goth band, female-fronted with long-haired males backing her, dressed in black.
Avatar 3:54am
Fox:

Emily: It would make a great double billing!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am
mariano:

Damn coela, talk about on the nose! You should create bands - you can be like one of those music moguls that creates bands (except not shady and pushing really good music). Followup question: were you in a gang called the Barracudas when you were a teen?
Avatar 4:02am
slugluv1313:

@ coelacanthø -- PERFECT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04am
coelacanth∅:

slugluv i thought recently about when my father brought home blank scrapbooks. none of my siblings spent much time on them but i did -and i knew that stupid things like coupons would be interesting some day. also really bad cereal boxes decorated with scary peaches with eyes and mouths! i made 2 scrapbooks and still have them. i had a ton of stuff saved for others though and wish i hadn't thrown it all out. that shit's in museums now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am

tin huey! 'been a while!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am

mariano no. we did call ourselves the "suicide club" for a while though, in 5th-6th grade. (terrorist bicycle gang!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am
coelacanth∅:

that version of puppet wipes is quite different than the one on "contents dislodged during shipment". good, but different; and shorter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12am
