Hello Andrew...I became an Animals fan thanks to my Dad. He was an original fan back in '64...I think he still might enjoy them more then The Beatles...I should ask...

Can you recommend any books on the genres you are hosting? Comprehensive of all the genre's featured on your show from the sixties. Thanks in advance!

Mailman Tom:

I was lucky enough to have seen Eric Burdon perform at the Fillmore East back in '71
Avatar 6:48pm

How was it, Tom?
Avatar 6:48pm

Hi gang! Loving the Animals spotlight.

Welcome, rogson - thank you!
Avatar 6:50pm
rogson:

Hi Andrew and thank you!
Avatar 6:50pm
cometothesunshine:

Some great songs in this show
Avatar 6:51pm
rogson:

Yep just grabbed the Hilton Valentine tune.
Avatar 6:53pm
cometothesunshine:

As the old MGM albums would say, sounds great in STEREO - though that was seldom with their pressings.
Avatar 6:55pm
cometothesunshine:

I had a sealed mono copy of this album that I transferred. It sounded horrible from first play.
Avatar 6:56pm
rogson:

Must say the better version is by the outsiders, but Animals do it well.
Avatar 6:58pm
cometothesunshine:

It seems like they didn't pick Eric's key for that particular song. He is training throughout.
Avatar 6:58pm
cometothesunshine:

I still love the arrangement.
Avatar 6:59pm
rogson:

Agreed!
Avatar 6:59pm
cometothesunshine:

Some Boyce & Hart here for you all
Avatar 7:00pm
cometothesunshine:

They definitely mic'd the tambourine
Avatar 7:01pm
cometothesunshine:

Nevertheless, Tom Wilson really did a nice job on these albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm
Mike Sin:

With of a lot of these '60s records, it sounds like the percussion was dubbed last along with, say, the vocals. Unlike drums, they don't seem to suffer from an bounces or reductions.
Avatar 7:03pm
Woof:

Hello Andrew! Hello everyone! Sorry to be late!
Avatar 7:04pm
cometothesunshine:

welcome, Woof
Avatar 7:04pm
cometothesunshine:

Mike Sin - that was definitely an East Coast thing
Avatar 7:04pm
cometothesunshine:

The West Coast had a different approach on their multitracks
Avatar 7:05pm
cometothesunshine:

East coast tapes are usually all about handclaps and tambourine
Avatar 7:06pm
Olivia Greene:

Interesting recording details. Thanks, Andrew!
Avatar 7:07pm
cometothesunshine:

Exciting news: we are an hour in to the show and I am about to play some actual Animals records!
Avatar 7:09pm
cometothesunshine:

They invented The Equals tremelo guitar sound on this record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm
Candy-O'67:

Love that tremelo sound!!
Avatar 7:10pm
cometothesunshine:

Yeah, a great record - Candy-O
Avatar 7:11pm
Mailman Tom:

Eric walked out wearing a dirty T shirt and holding a can of beer. He looked like he already had a few.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
Mike Sin:

Ha! That whole "Eric is Here" LP was recorded when Eric was formally "Animal-less" or in between Animals, as it were, correct?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Candy-O'67:

Haha, Mailman Tom! I saw him at Amoeba Records in LA about 10 years ago with his current band. He did a lot of Animals songs and still has the same voice. It was awesome!
Avatar 7:12pm
cometothesunshine:

Mike - between Animals - a quasi solo album recorded in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Candy-O'67:

This Cheating song is one of my faves of theirs
Avatar 7:13pm
cometothesunshine:

That's why I played it!
Avatar 7:13pm
Mailman Tom:

Eric is a living legend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Candy-O'67:

Yeah!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Candy-O'67:

He truly is, Mailman Tom
Avatar 7:14pm

Andrew, I was shocked that the Bunny didn't have "I'm Cryin" by the Animals. Don't know if it's on your agenda today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Candy-O'67:

Oooooh, that's such a good one, rogson. Hi!
Avatar 7:15pm
cometothesunshine:

The Bunny often shocks me
Avatar 7:16pm
cometothesunshine:

Rogson - I have more early material coming, but because the Bunny won't let me go even a little over my two-hour slot, not everything esssential will get played today
Avatar 7:16pm
rogson:

Hi Candy. If I may be audacious, their best.

Avatar 7:20pm

This is a pretty cool version of The Stones' Connection...is this available commercially...if not, it should...with all the other BBC recordings...
Avatar 7:21pm
cometothesunshine:

It is not available
Avatar 7:21pm
cometothesunshine:

In the movie that this song appears in, Bobby Darin says the line "Ain't That So" about a million times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Candy-O'67:

"Ain't That So" - really diggin' it
Avatar 7:22pm
cometothesunshine:

UK only B-side

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm

Thanks, MCE
Avatar 7:36pm

I put a lot of thought into how to make it all work.

Thanks for Hilton Valentine stopping in to listen and say hi!
  7:58pm
Hilton:

That single of See See Rider says Eric Burdon & The Animals but it was The Animals. It was released after the band broke up but it wasn't his new lineup. They made a TV appearance and John Weider (or was it Vic Briggs) mimed the guitar to MY solo
Avatar 7:58pm

Great guitar on that record, Hilton!

Cheers, Hilton!
