"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

One trend I have noticed on WFMU and around social media as of late: People defending “uncool” music and art… So far my count of those defenses includes: Hall & Oates, Eddie Money and even Eddie Murphy’s pop music output.

It’s like everyone is saying, “I’m stuck at home, life sucks but dammit I can’t hide my feels on these tracks/artists!”

Also, I think “Dirty Laundry” was the first track I ever requested a DJ play back when it was hot on WNEW here in NYC. So terrifying to call up a radio station and ask for something and then getting it.

Some physical labor coming up tomorrow might have us back on the water soon, which is cool. When this Coronavirus stuff started, Moog made their basic Moog keyboard app available for free on iOS. Loading it onto my iPhone or iPad mini just makes me get stressed and it should be a simple app… And I work with and develop software myself!

Actually, it's sausage, cheese and egg.

And spam, baked beans, tomato and spam.

A school near me occasionally throws out huge garbage bags of sealed and frozen chicken nuggets. They — and other NYC schools — are getting tons of food for “Grab and Go” meals but they always have excess. I’m very tempted to grab a few sacks. Very, very tempted.

Sorry, Carm, I am not qualified to rate the meat lunches after 25 years without the stuff!

We are eating less and drinking more these days, ami ad, no doubt about it. I have had 1/3 of a banana so far today.

Out 'em, Jake. They shouldn't be throwing out good food. They should give it to a food bank or something similar.

@common: I’m making my own cafe au lait for coffee. Mainly because I use a 3 cup stovetop espresso maker and it’s the best way to fill a cup with 50% coffee and 50% milk.

my neighbor offered me 2 "family-sized" frozen meals over the weekend. one mac & cheese and something with chicken. i said i don't want them but i know people who would. then they said they have tons of canned chick peas
- i'll eat that! they were going to throw it out.

@Carmichael: Out who and where? I live in NYC. This happens regularly. Me “outting” them is — at best — like saying the sky is blue; at worst makes me seem like the neighborhood rat. It’s simply better to figure out how to get that stuff to good use though other channels. Like organized dumpster diving groups and mutual aid groups and such.

Also, I won’t get deeply into how public officials operate outside of the — predominantly — gentrified areas in NYC, but it’s simply better to deal with things on your own constructively rather than be “tagged” as someone making noise but with no way to really affect change.

We had neighbors in our bldg. who left town and asked us to deal with a food shipment. Their parents had subscribed them to one of these "all the ingredients are in the box, just follow the directions" dealies. It was nightmarish. The produce was so bad. Every bit was individually wrapped in plastic. The sauces were just like individual plastic packets of Kikoman, Tabasco, other national brands. And there was so much packaging. We were shocked.

I often feel like a yokel in the actual regular world that I live in.

ami i considered growing chick peas one year...then i though that's stupid! i have (had) ~1200 square feet how fast am i going to go through a tiny crop of chick peas?! waste of space.
but i did grow other legumes that i don't consume as much of. beautiful plants, beautiful flowers on them.

@Handy: Those services are amazingly bad and speak to people who have never simply gone, “Hey! I’ll spend $20 on new foods at the supermarket and learn something on my own!” The exact target market is someone’s fretting parents “worried” about their grown adult children not eating well way into their 20s.
