The lazy calm at the week's start. A few live performances included, but mainly music with an ear tilted toward string-driven things.

October 27, 2003: All you need is a little Bix (deftly arranged by Geoff Muldaur) to banish those cloudy days.

An interview with Geoff Muldaur, on the release of "Private Astronomy - A vision of the Music of Bix Beiderbecke"
|

People may not associate the music of jazz trumpeter Bix Beiderbecke with Geoff Muldaur, but they certainly will after hearing his new album project, "Private Astronomy: A Vision of the Music of Bix Beiderbecke." Geoff's written new orchestrations to the piano pieces Beiderbecke wrote and put together the Futuristic Ensemble to play this music and other Bix-related numbers. Also on the project are special guests like Loudon Wainwright III and daughter Martha Wainwright. It's a remarkable album that refuses to leave my CD player. Geoff stopped by to talk about the project. |
