Hi David! Successfully crossed streams, was just playing a few songs that reminded me of your show and without knowing I was hurdled through time and space (aka - streams) and landed on the Subway! I snuck on, so don't tell the conductor, I'll hide in the lunch car and order a drink and a bag of chips.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

spodiodi:

hi David! nice to be here
hi all!
how are those gorats, chresti? (only recently leanrned of their existence, a couple of days ago while researching eating uncooked oatmeal. steel cut and groats need coopking, but rolled oats are ok without,, btw.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

i've been eating a mix of oats, rye, and wheat from TJs, for a while now. i recommend giving it a try if you haven't and can
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
David Dichelle:

Good evening, Dutchtheo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
coelacanth∅:

that sounds good spodiodi. i try to keep my grains separate, and to limit wheat; but that sounds like a treat. (i deviate)

my usual rolled oat intake is with boiling water, maple syrup and either fresh blueberries or raisins and pecans. maybe a pinch of cinnamon.
i sometimes make müesli.

Brian in UK:

Hello David, is there a seat for an old goat.

Earlier tracks reminded me of Salim Sesler, who I did not see when visiting Istanbul in 2010 much to my frustration as he passed a few years later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
coelacanth∅:

...(or dried mulberries)
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
chresti:

Hi spodiodi, I use quick cooking steel cut oats, which are somewhat pre-cooked(?), I grind them up with herbs and dried berries, etc., then steep in a thermal cup w/boiling water, the longer it soaks, the mushier it gets. Important to stir it before putting the lid on to steep..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm

I cook porridge (rolled oats) in a microwave, one of the few things I use it for. Just milk and oats. Piety rules!!

Thank you, David and Stanley.

When this Headington disk was reviewed in Fanfare in late '97, one of the reviewers wrote, "Where Headington scores an unequivocable hit is in the single-movement Serenade for cello and strings (first performed in 1995), which is gently informed by the spirit, not of Britten this time, but of Elgar, whose own Cello Concerto steals into Headington's fabric in a gentle tribute."

Dean:

Thanks, chresti and doctorjazz.

Of this recording by Xue Wei another FF reviewer wrote in '92 that Headington's "1959 violin concerto is lyrical and glowing, the idiom comfortably tonal but spiced with a subtle use of dissonance to heighten tension... Once again Xue-Wei plays gorgeously, never losing his lustrous tone."

Needless to say, I love reading Fanfare.

I'll bet! My mom fell down and fracture her hip around Thanksgiving, and that was the beginning of the downward slide.

Scott Williams, happy birthday! And Kat in Chicago!

Dean:

My mom's downward slide began with a stroke on Christmas 2011, a year and a half after the death of my father. Yet she persists! Moving her from SoCal to be near us -- even though we can't visit her these days -- turns out to have been a good decision.

My mom fractured her femur twice. The second time was the beginning of the end (but, she had dementia, lung cancer, severe anemia, just needed it to push her over the edge).
Thanks, David!
