Thanks, spodiodi, hello parubi

@MRPumpy: Yup! Beautiful spot. For those not on Twitter, i did a thread explaining how i got into the Dead, part of the story was camping at the beach, a bonfire, and a girl in tie-dye...

I remember years ago talking to this old timer who'd been around the Haight in the middle of the whole deal, had seen Janis and Hendrix and many others playing small venues. I asked him who his favorite guitarists were, and Stills was one of the guys he mentioned, which surprised me since (not knowing a lot about him) I thought of him more as a vocalist.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Gina Bacon:

Jeff and Mr. Pumpy...my family camped at Hither Hills a lot, too! There was a guy that would hook a PA up to his Volkswagon battery and we'd square dance! Such great memories of that place.
Avatar 10:22pm
Jeff Conklin:

@Gina: Wow thats awesome. I was there summer of 93, lots of other 14 year olds. Was a great scene..
  10:22pm
Dean:

That "Stills can shred" comment reminded me of StSanders' hilarious "...shreds" videos. Never covered Stills, though.
  10:23pm
bigplanetnoise:

Al Kooper still ranks Stills as one of his most fave players. Not the least for saving the day in Supersession.
  10:23pm
Carmichael:

@mariano, Stills was and is a fantastic acoustic guitarist. If you just smack him in the head and tell him to play.

Sorta like Zappa, who (rightfully, imo) had an album called Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar.
Avatar 10:23pm
Jeff Conklin:

Every time I listen to Supersession I wish they would put out a version without the horns (I still love it tho)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Uncle Michael:

Stephen was a great live player. His stupid rejoinder to an audience member not withstanding, his 1974 (?) electric/acoustic live album bears that out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
mariano:

Carmichael: Yeah, I loved those Zappa guitar albums. What an unmistakably distinct style he had. I'll have to explore Stills' guitar work more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@Jeff...just had some audio probs. Yeah man...Montauk, that part of it at least...is magic! Wow...what memories.
  10:28pm

It’s actually just a completely different mastering choice I believe, rather than an alternate mix. The mastering in the stock copy was completely cloudy, murky and dark. The promo had all the upper mids and top end left wide open.

@Jake...thanks for asking. Could be better. The problem is he should be getting therapy still, but everything is cut off, for obvious reasons. I don't really know how to gauge it. At times, I feel he is wasting away before my eyes and I should be more of a drill sergeant and put a program together for him. The other side of that coin is I live with him now, maybe staying home at my place one day a week (tonight!), and I'm glad to be there with him doing what I can to keep him safe and fed...and up on his meds. That's an honest answer, brother! Again, truly appreciated.
