sv, slugluvin', Athaboy, (beammeup) Scott(y)...greetings.
Avatar 12:05am
sv:

i couldn't resist the title's literalism, although i suppose you're the one doing the transmitting, scott!
Avatar 12:05am
duck:

off to a gorgeous start
Avatar 12:06am
sv:

hello slug, ath, pump and duck! glad y'all are here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am
Ath:

getting -very- literal with the titles
Avatar 12:07am
sv:

it's a goal of mine to do a show where all the song titles in the archive can be read as a sentence that makes some sort of sense
Avatar 12:08am
duck:

i totally thought tim was subbing/guesting tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am
Ath:

Now I just feel slow on the framing device bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am
Scott Williams:

Nick Storring really working too! And the title wouldn't be outta place on a Caretaker record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am
Mr. Pumpy:

sv...I'd love to help you realize that dream! Although...I ain't trying to steal your thunder...but I'm intrigued.
Avatar 12:11am

the caretaker is a titling king!

so is keiji haino, while we're on the topic

pump, if i ever get around to the show i'll likely enlist some help!

I don't normally listen at this time. Holy moly. This show is awesome so far! Nowhere Places may be my new favourite WFMU show! Thanks SV!
Avatar 12:13am
sv:

i was laughing at myself during the recording of this show, this part in particular, as it's just a complete refutation of everything i said last week about disliking noise

sydneyguy, thank you so much for the kind words! glad to have you with us :)

Thanks for having me. Hi from Australia. And, noise rocks! Or, doesn't rock. You know what I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am

LOL SV! These are some textures, baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am
Mr. Pumpy:

sv...at the ready!

SydneyGuy:

I want SV to DJ at a nightclub.
Avatar 12:16am

i definitely got a huge soft spot for mr. drumm - and i guess there really is a time for everything! yesterday afternoon i felt like a noise cleanse
Avatar 12:16am
sv:

we get into nightclub business soon enough, believe it or not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am

hey coel. I dig how your shorthand required footnotes.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, sv and listeners. You turned the knobs to "wackadoo," Scott?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am

sv...ever get around to checking out that Bass Communion & Muslimgauze?

i haven't listened to a lot of main but i sure do love their consistency when it comes to record design
Avatar 12:21am
sv:

i appreciate the rec, pump! any inroads into muslimgauze are appreciated
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am

Ken...I believe he's set the controls for the spleen of the nethervoid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am

hey Mr.P
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am
Scott Williams:

@Ken, nope, I just slashed the tweeters with a boxcutter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am
Mr. Pumpy:

sv...steven wilson has some other off kilter projects as well. Bass Communion (as mentioned), IEM (incredible expanding mindfuck), well..all I can think of, but the early Porcupine Tree shit gets cosmic as well.
Avatar 12:28am
glue_horizon:

Dustin' off the Codex
Avatar 12:28am
sv:

steven wilson and his many projects are a musical stone i've yet to turn - i mostly know him from his involvement with opeth as they were one of my favorite bands growing up (still loooooove some of their records)
Avatar 12:29am
mb:

Hey DJ sv and all
Avatar 12:29am
sv:

hello glue and mb!
Avatar 12:30am
sv:

speaking of codex, i had a the pleasure of rewatching evil dead 2 a couple days ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
Ath:

so many hits on this release
Avatar 12:30am
sv:

also just finished watching ichi the killer before this show - that was an experience
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am
Ath:

recommend ichi? was thinking about it
Avatar 12:32am
sv:

ah boy
Avatar 12:32am
sv:

i liked it, but it was very difficult to watch at times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am
Scott Williams:

Ichi is hilarious! It's actually a lot lighter in tone than a lot of Takashi Miike's stuff - Audition's pretty rough
Avatar 12:35am
sv:

yeah, i'd agree with that - each time i watched audition i left feeling unclean. ichi didn't produce that effect. soundtrack rips too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
Rob (Jerzcity):

Ichi is almost like a good starter for Takashi Miike - but then again, he's got quite a spectrum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
Mr. Pumpy:

Ichi! Sharp shoes...man! And a smile to rival the Joker's...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am
Rob (Jerzcity):

there was a time that I thought Happiness of the Katakuri's was one of the best films ever made because it "has it all"
Avatar 12:36am
craplivion:

this is like native american music meets japanese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am
Ath:

Haven't seen audition either, making a watchlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
Mr. Pumpy:

Audition is such a well crafted and beautiful movie, but hard as fuck to get through. I was living alone in Vermont in the dead of winter in 2003/4 when I watched it. I had to turn it off half way through and call some friends before resuming. Amazing piece of art though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
Ath:

duly noted pump!
Avatar 12:38am
sv:

audition was my first, ichi was my second, i'll definitely be on to more but i have to space out the viewings, i reckon
Avatar 12:38am
glue_horizon:

ha, this album popped up in my youtube recs and was jamming to it earlier, probably cuz of all the Poison Girl Friend ive been listening to since last Nowhere Places ;p
Avatar 12:38am
sv:

hello rob and craplivion!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am
Mr. Pumpy:

The Happiness of the Katakuris is my favorite Miike. It's so damn good! I haven't went down his road in some time. I can not be a completest when it comes to him...I just don't have it in me any longer.
Avatar 12:38am
craplivion:

hey sv
Avatar 12:39am

that's rad, glue! syncing our algorithmic recs
Avatar 12:39am

i found the record courtesy of the wonderful fond sound blog - it's a treasure trove
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am
Rob (Jerzcity):

same, @Pumpy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am
Rob (Jerzcity):

It's also hard to be a completest because he's made like 300 movies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am
Scott Williams:

Add Gozu to the list! Talking cow's head, sex scene that becomes a rebirth scene, really wild
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am
Mr. Pumpy:

sw…I love me some Opeth. Some ther things you may know/like… I’ve begun reacquainting myself with a few things in my collection lately. All things Laddio Bolocko for one. Also, Robert Beatty - Soundtracks for Takeshi Murata and…shit, I can’t remember the last thing I was thinking of. I’ll get back to you.
Avatar 12:42am
sv:

here's the part of the show where i played two uk garage tracks at 90bpm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Rob...truth!
@Scott...Gozu is a good one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am

Avatar 12:56am

I hear you Marley Dogg. Was going to hit the sack around "Oomoo" but "大地の歌" came on and here we are. 5am has become the norm as i will probably cook a full meal soon.

Mr. Pumpy - that is definitely a change in schedule - wow
  12:57am

I’ve been trying to keep a schedule but it’s tough when you have no where to go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am

sv...I'm going nuts trying to find that third album I can't remember. I have been actively searching since I mentioned it! I need to know now for me as well! It had such killer cover art as well. I can not rest!!!

I need to revisit this one. He has been doing cool live streams from his studio. Also that RZA/DJ Premier live IG was fun last night if anyone caught it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am
Mr. Pumpy:

Holy fuck...I found it! It took some doing. First I'll list another gem I found in the process. Actually I remembered this one and recalled I had come across them both around the same time so I sorted my iTunes by date added. Crikey! Ethernet - Opus 2 is the anchor I used to find it. Three Legged Race - Persuasive Barrier, that's the 0ne that was torturing me! But...you know, no pressure! HA! Seriously...just sharing.

hi gang. i've had dreams about weed-pulling, too. i imagine a dream about computers would result in the display looking scrambled. also having some lucid dreaming moments like Marley Dogg describes

wow @ Emil Beaulieau. super interesting set. thanks for posting links to the artists!

i imagine a lot of people are going to be struggling with sleep in this period. i also wonder how many people will keep washing their hands a lot! the good news is good music helps these things :)
Avatar 1:27am

hey greatb and richy! the painful part of my computer dreams is how mundane they are. i already spend too much time online as is.
Avatar 1:27am
mb:

dang. Just realized my hi fi was off and i missed some great tuneage in full stereo and bass capability. But something worse happened during Irwins show this week. I had KCR on for 15mins thinking it was a jazz portion of his show. Dude bong down kind of errors.
Avatar 1:29am

it happens to the best of us! this show features a whole bunch of little errors on my part

sv yes those dreams were gorgeous; i don't know what other purpose they served -just telling me to appreciate the beauty i guess.
greatb were you pulling weeds for days and days in your waking hours, instigating those dreams?
  1:36am
greatb:

we all do it. i listened to my clunky old space heater for an hour once and thought it was fmu. i was like, "dang this is sick! what track is this?"
Avatar 1:36am

Ahh. Thanks for the reminder Logos. Don't mind if i do!

i guess that's just my mixing! my intention with each show is kinda to have it be a big undulating mass of music - might not be for everyone
  1:37am
greatb:

i dig the transitions! cool you can work that into the home recording process
  1:39am

are DJs doing any editing of their COVID-recorded shows or are they encouraged to keep them as if they were live?
Avatar 1:40am

i got a great deal on a used ddj400, really glad i spent the money! not the most amazing controller in the world but it gets the job done
Avatar 1:40am

that's a good question, greatb - i think most people are keeping it as close to live as possible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am

my little ceramic heater sometimes makes a cool sound when, i guess, the speed of the fan is at odds with the vibration of the metal casing? it happens when the thermostat tells it to ease up.
first time i noticed it Fabio was on so i assumed it was part of the song.

in the spirit of me keeping it live, that was me restarting the song by accident

man that's what my quarantine is missing - the films of john hughes

i think of the archives as time travel. then when I go back to the live stream I say, "where we're going, we don't need roads"
Avatar 2:03am

that's a cool reference, pump! my avi is a drawing my girlfriend did a couple of years ago. my hair ain't quite so long these days and right now i'm sporting a mustache that's gotten middling to bad reviews

greatb, that's how i used to think of old recordings of uk pirate stations.
  2:04am

yes! also i like the idea of recording a show for later, because you are thinking forward to when it begins and closing a time loop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am

to be fair, quarantine is a great time to experiment with facial hair

according to my kiddo (14), that's what tha kidz are doing with quarantine: making impulsive hair decisions. I think I'm good with that, as long as they're not all making the same impulsive hair decisions

yeah the only thing to stop impulsive hair/facial hair decisions would be significant others at this point

i was thinking about trying a mullet- i am already half-working on one from a frustrated summer it's-too-hot self-chop last year

the haircut place i went to when i was younger had the most amazing book on mullets - i never got tired of reading it

woah- yeah it would be cool to check some different mullet styling options... we couldn't be too far from them being unironic again, right?
Avatar 2:16am

i think they're very, very close to being unironic again

see that speed change was a cool live moment (unless it was part of the program of the song!) yeah i figure i listen to fmu, i can be a hair pacesetter...
