Hi everyone. Like I said. I'm listening in the kitchen while chopping vegetables :-)

Nice retrospectives on the history of this cobbled genre
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm

I'm in the kitchen too, having my second cup of coffee.

Great show today, Jan!
Been listening but minimizing screen-time, as I've got a spectacular spell of scintillating scotoma going on today - my eyes have become Winamp screensavers. Pretty trippy but hard to concentrate on text.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
chresti:

Agree with Domenic.

Was quite amazed to find that Esquivel kiddie show album in a 99 cent bargain bin a year or so ago. I probably shouted out, ay caramba!

BC Sterrett:

Lay wreaths for all of you :)
Avatar 12:19pm
BC Sterrett:

Ha ha. I found mine at the thrift store as well in the 90's I think. This is probably the first time I've shared it.
Avatar 12:21pm
Mr Fab:

I personally have met one of the artists played so far today.

John Redd....I mean Korla?
Avatar 12:23pm
Domenic:

So an encouraging words to my friends here about this style of music we like. The GM at my local NPR affiliate agreed in principle to a exotica-ish program in the future. put together a powerpoint with about 12 slides with examples of programs.. lets see what happens after the virus curve..
Avatar 12:24pm
Sonderangebot:

Hi BC & all, really enjoying this show.
Avatar 12:24pm
Ursula1000:

this Waldo track is really sweet--never heard of her
Avatar 12:27pm
Mr Fab:

Ursula1000 wins a cigar! A chocolate one, if you prefer. Yes, Korla used to perform live around L.A. in the ‘90s. Shook his hand and spoke with him a bit. He had a soft “Indian” accent. Fooled me. Fooled everyone.
Avatar 12:28pm
Ursula1000:

the whole Korla story is genius
Avatar 12:30pm
Mr Fab:

Elisabeth Waldo is still alive. She’s 100! I remember she was still performing at least as of a few years ago.
Avatar 12:31pm
BC Sterrett:

Wow. Waldo's exotica is all South American based, really brilliant stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Rich in Washington:

My mom related the story of the first time she saw television and the first thing she described seeing 'a man in a turban playing the organ'. I later showed her a YouTube clip of Korla and - like someone looking at a police lineup on a TV show - went "THAT'S HIM! THAT'S THE MAN!".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Rich in Washington:

Apparently one of our tv stations carried his show up here.
Avatar 12:37pm
Mr Fab:

@Domenic: that’s awesome! I used to listen to NPR music shows...a long time ago. Til it all turned to Garrison Car-talk. Hope this new show can get NPR hep again.
Avatar 12:39pm
BC Sterrett:

Valerie is now helping with the playlist on a couch two rooms away. lol
Avatar 12:41pm

I loved Korla's cameo in the Ed Wood movie

Feel like sweeping the floor, really slow, with a glass of wine. Whaddya gonna do with Tina singing?
Avatar 12:46pm
Domenic:

Ohhh Tina... Yes Mr. Fab. Got lucky as this latest GM is not career NPR. Exotica-Cool S&UM can be a great fit. and can sustain a time slot with pledge money.. We all know it. But its a hard sell. Demographics are shifting....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
chresti:

Sweeping requires more coffee..
Avatar 12:47pm
Ursula1000:

chresti never has 3 cups
Avatar 12:47pm
Domenic:

Coleman Hawkins on the sax on the Tina track. But we all now that.
Avatar 12:47pm
Mr Fab:

I had a coworker who told me about when he was a Beverly Hills drug store manager, and once Tina Louise came in stating that she lost some $400 sunglasses at the store and wanted reimburement.
Avatar 12:47pm
BC Sterrett:

I don't think he meant sweeping with a broom :)

Avatar 12:49pm
Otis Fodder:

Oh no, I meant sweeping with a broom... really slow, get that dust up and the wine is rose.
Avatar 12:50pm
BC Sterrett:

ah

Joe Williams always did "Teach Me Tonight". But she has a come hither quality...

Tina Louise! Played a role late in the life of Lenny Bruce. GINGER! How could you?
