Little Danny:

Rather a bitter lyric, this
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
coelacanth∅:

ah, well i had the title wrong too. no "anymore" (at least not on Dawn Penn's version)
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
doctorjazz:

And of course, these guys knew "Shake"
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

right doc the Allman's version is like part "trouble no more", part "you don't love me"
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
coelacanth∅:

(their trouble no more that is)
Avatar 10:26pm
Little Danny:

Definitely: "Shake." Cued up this Hank Crawford with seconds to spare. (Speaking of "Shake.")

groovy tune (shake a plenty)
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:28pm

I must share this little bit of surreal comedy: This afternoon driving through the deserted streets of Pasadena, there was this very earnest commentator on KCRW advising folks who don't know, how to score and consume weed in all it's permutations. For coping purposes, of course.

He never gets booked at festivals around the city because he’s probably too obscure. Ira is the only one who hires him.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:54pm

They're recreational dispensaries, but if you have a medical card, you don't pay tax@Matt
Avatar 10:54pm

Matt, I agree he sounded fantastic
Avatar 10:55pm

Tony Owens didn’t cut a bad record
Avatar 10:56pm

There was even one that was so obscure it was only recently discovered in boxes in a storage unit
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 10:57pm

I don't know if that's comforting, to have a PSA saying "OK folks, this is a good time to get baked"
Avatar 10:58pm
TDK60:

chresti, I'll have to puff and ponder on that...
Avatar 10:59pm
Little Danny:

I wish I knew Owens's catalog better
Avatar 11:00pm
Little Danny:

I like Dave Brubeck.
Avatar 11:02pm
Little Danny:

I even still like "Take Five."
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
doctorjazz:

Not that easy or affordable, LD, could only find 1 copy inn eBay of the single for $50. Maybe that's inexpensive these days.
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
chresti:

Maybe that's why people are rushing out to stockpile toilet paper, they're really high.

Take Five will always be groovy.
Avatar 11:04pm
Little Danny:

Of the Tony Owens? I've seen $10 copies on eBay quite recently. $50 is waaay too much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm

Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:08pm

Avatar 11:11pm
Little Danny:

Noro is the better-known brother to Esy (featured prev. set)
Avatar 11:13pm
Kris Holmes:

There’s actually an Island funk version of take five done in 4/4 time
Avatar 11:14pm
Little Danny:

Haha, amazing. I can't even imagine how flattened-out a 4/4 version would sound
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
doctorjazz:

I heard the 4/4 Take 5, pretty cool cool. Never loved Brubeck, but really like Paul Desmond, his alto player.
Avatar 11:17pm
Kris Holmes:

I want to say it’s on one of the Numero comps, Bahamas or Belize but I’m not certain
Avatar 11:17pm

Dragons = Daryl Dragon = The Captain
Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:18pm

feel like you don’t often hear vibes (or whatever that is) in surfy instrumentals, and is that melodica? cool song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm

The Bahamian Ozzie Hall does a cover of "Take Five."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Good night everyone. Thanks Danny. I’ll be listening.

Avatar 🦭 Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
doctorjazz:

Gonna lay my head on the pillow as well. Night all!
Avatar 11:22pm
Little Danny:

The "Take 5" meter/sound got adopted in all sortsa interesting ways in the early and mid-'60s. Thinking of France Gall's "Pense a Moi"
Avatar 11:23pm
Little Danny:

Yeah, zzz, definitely not that much. Mostly in the context of big-budget stuff like the Beach Boys and some surf-era soundtracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Franco Twinkie:

In 1972 I saw the Dragon brothers, Daryl and Dennis providing an improvised(I think) sound track to a surfing movie at the Santa Monica Civic. They were very good in a Pink Floyd kind of way. Of course they both went onto their own respective careers. But back then, they really had it together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I recognized this music Danny. It’s from a fairly terrible Mondo style look at satanic rituals called Witchcraft ’70 in the US.
Avatar 11:35pm
Little Danny:

Haha, I should have known you knew that movie, Matt. I almost called you out on the air.
Avatar 11:37pm

Franco, I knew there was no way you hadn't crossed paths with Dragons at some point. So very, very California, that family
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm

paths are important.
Avatar 11:41pm
Kris Holmes:

There was a third brother right? It was all three in The Dragons?
Avatar 11:41pm
Little Danny:

The Dragons were connected to the surf movie The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun, I believe. Matt from NOLA could prolly confirm
Avatar 11:42pm
Kris Holmes:

I believe two of the brothers did that soundtrack
Avatar 11:43pm
Kris Holmes:

I want to say The Dragons stuff was the only stuff all three of them did together?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Franco Twinkie:

On that night they were simply called Dragon. One thing I do remember, it was really cold and Dennis was out front playing the drums in a tank top!
Avatar 11:46pm
Little Danny:

Could very well be, Kris, I just don't know. I've checked out that soundtrack online before, but I don't know much about them as recording artists
Avatar 11:48pm
Kris Holmes:

Yeah I’m going off vague recollections from when I was vaguely interested one time years ago lol
Avatar 11:53pm
Little Danny:

Man I have so many vague recollections of esoteric music factoids, they just keep piling up in my head. Thank god I have this show. How else could I exorcise/exercise them?
Avatar 11:55pm

Ugh I know, most of the time I’m prefacing anything I say with “maaaaybe?”
