It's like the one two punch today, fatal fists of fury with Dj Georgy Girl punching in for Record Roulette and now back to the plate for a new edition of LorHajiTura.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Lovely Linda Lee! Hello :-)
  5:02pm
Martinibomb:

I literally ran into Jack Lord running around a bookstore when I was 9.
  5:02pm
Martinibomb:

he just kinda looked down and patted me on the head Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That is so cool :-)
Avatar 5:03pm
Linda Lee:

that's lovely, MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Today's word is "plethora". It crops up a fair bit ;-)
Avatar 5:06pm
Linda Lee:

will we hear from The Mod Squad? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also, by "TV shows", I meant "and movies". lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - maybe ;-)
  5:07pm
Martinibomb:

Cannon, Mannix, Barnaby Jones.. I am currently obsessed with these 3 I never really saw them much when I was a kid. I mean mannix theme is a classic of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Cannon! Gosh! Blast from the past! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Barnaby Jones ... brain fart ... Beverley Hillbillies ...
  5:08pm
Martinibomb:

I'm really obsessed with William Conrad right now plus he was a radio guy. was huge on radio, didn't get much tv work so he did a lot of voice over work cause his voice fucking rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And so many people started off doing bit parts in 60s and 70s cop shows. Tons of them.
  5:09pm
Martinibomb:

The Cannon character he makes it really fun. Makes fun of his weight and the character is really into food and knows how to cook etc.. one of my fave scenes when he uses his gut to push the bad guy into a pool. Lol
Avatar 5:10pm
Linda Lee:

that would be Buddy Ebsen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Buddy Ebsen! Thank you :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Could see his face ... could not remember his name. I'm awful with names.
  5:11pm
Martinibomb:

I need to find some copies of Jake and Fat Man now... I remember watching them but like why would anyone like this fat guy? totally didn't get it
Avatar 5:11pm
ARB:

Hello all! Digging this set so much!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yeah, I never really got Jake And the Fat man either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

ARB! Hello! :-)
  5:12pm
Martinibomb:

Hello ARB what are your opinions of William Conrad?
  5:12pm
Martinibomb:

After watching Cannon I'm curious if I would like Jake and the Fat man now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mcmillan and Wife - shit title, great show :-)
  5:13pm
Martinibomb:

The thing is Willian Conrad did something like 14,000 different characters for radio in the day but TV totally snubbed him except for Cannon and Jake and the Fatman or for voice overs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

He had one of those wonderful sonorous voices :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Persuaders <3 My favourite theme ever. One of my favourite tracks ever. :-)
  5:14pm
Martinibomb:

He's the voice over for the opening for Buck Rogers TV series if you ever watch that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And ... there's an episode in Brighton :-)
Avatar 5:15pm
ARB:

I'm going to have to revisit Jake and the Fat Man as well, my memories of it are so blurry they almost don't exist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

They're re-running Buck Rogers on one of the UK channels at the moment :-)
  5:15pm
Martinibomb:

@Arb that is an apt description of Jake and the fat man.. like a blurry vhs tape memory of it
Avatar 5:16pm
ARB:

GeorgyGirl are you covering for Spacebrother today also?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mr fab is and I'm doing the playlist - just waiting for the page to set up :-)
  5:17pm
Martinibomb:

@GG I think he only does the first season tho the 2nd season is a different voice??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - not sure. They're not showing them in order, so it's kind of all over the place
  5:19pm
Martinibomb:

the first season of buck rogers is the best when they are on earth. If they are on the ship in space.. it's not as good
Avatar 5:19pm
Linda Lee:

'Fragments of Fear'! fabulous show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@LL - thank you :-) Labour of love for me :-)
Avatar 5:21pm

the theme song was *very* evocative for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm
Rich in Washington:

This dovetails perfectly with your show earlier today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It conjured up everything Rick and I loved about horror shows and spy shows :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I could claim I planned it that way, but I genuinely didn't. lol
  5:22pm
Martinibomb:

The 1st season has Pamela Hensley playing Princess Ardala and she had a role on the detective series Matt Houston -- bringing it back to the topic yo!
Avatar 5:22pm
Linda Lee:

yesss. :-)
I love hammer dulcimer too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Matt Houston! Another blast from the past! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
Rich in Washington:

Speaking of William Conrad, has anyone seen where someone has stitched together every guest star announcement on Cannon into one video?
I won't post a YouTube on a playlist because I think that's rude.
  5:24pm
Martinibomb:

^Speaking of Hammer Dulcmer what about the Hammer tv series! Another detective show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - I was literally just about to type that ;-)

just remembered the Bukowski poem 'play the piano like a percussion instrument until the fingers begin to bleed a bit' ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mr Fab is filling in after me for Greg. Just set the page up :-)
  5:26pm
Martinibomb:

I was just watching it recently got up thru season 2 and actually that series is much better than I remember it. His lady partner KICKS FUCKING ASSSSS in that show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@LL - it *is* considered percussion, isn't it? I thought so. :-)
  5:26pm
Martinibomb:

There are not many shows from that time period where a lady punches the shit out of so many people. My jaw hit the floor
Avatar 5:27pm
Linda Lee:

not exactly..
I like to think of it that way, but technically it isn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm doing about five things at once right now. It'll settle down in a minute ;-)
Avatar 5:27pm
ARB:

i'm so into this Wyngarde track!
Avatar 5:27pm
Linda Lee:

I mean, it's not used primarily to create tempo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@ARB - definitely the best track on the album :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@LL - ah. Is that the defining factor? That makes sense then.
  5:28pm
Martinibomb:

@Arb have you watched much of his TV/Movie work? He is soooo awesome
  5:29pm
Martinibomb:

I looove Department S and Jason King
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Jason King was such a fabulous character! :-)
Avatar 5:29pm
Linda Lee:

I think so. the piano can play in & out of the rhythm without losing its place in the music, so I don't think it's considered percussive, though it can be
Avatar 5:30pm
Linda Lee:

if a bass, for example, wanders away from the rhythm it's like.. wha?
but not the piano.
  5:30pm
Martinibomb:

why don't they replay Jason King instead of M.A.S.H. I'll never figure out
  5:31pm
Martinibomb:

Plus I mean gawd damn Mike Meyers totally ripped him off for Austin Powers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I live on a council estate (social housing) and we've had helicopters circling overhead for the last half hour. I'm guessing there might be a drug raid tonight, kids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm

Right in the middle of a cop show at that ;-)

  5:33pm

Tho u might like the Mandolorian.. I gotta say I way more enjoyed that than all of the star wars stuff outside the first 2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

My daughter is *obsessed* with The Mandalorian!
Avatar 5:34pm
Linda Lee:

i'll make an admission too: i could never stand cop shows or detective shows. you always knew the case would be solved or the criminals caught!
alywas loved the music though.
Avatar 5:34pm

Ah Alywas - great Welsh poet ;-)
Avatar 5:35pm
Linda Lee:

hahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Um ... the last time we had this many helicopters o the estate, they found a terrorist cell. If I go quiet ... we'll have all been evacuated again. lol
Avatar 5:36pm
Linda Lee:

GG, your shows are *definitely* about more than just music playing. i'd love reading you too.
  5:37pm
Martinibomb:

@Linda yeh I enjoy them in a way similar to bad B-Movies if that makes sense? I think the cliches are funny in detective shows once u watch enough u see most of the patterns and can figure it out in the first 5mins. I like old cop/detective shows but can't say i care much for CSI style
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@LL - thank you! :-D
Avatar 5:38pm
Linda Lee:

I can see a sort of tacky enjoyment there too, MB. it just takes so long for them to finish up! :-D
Avatar 5:39pm
Linda Lee:

fractured my smile again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
Rich in Washington:

The Mandalorian sounds a lot like Joe Frank. Someone should dub episodes where instead of Mando talking, it's random Joe Frank bits.
  5:39pm
Martinibomb:

I can also appreciate some of the vets of stage and screen that came thru many of those shows in the 60s/70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I loved how Quincy used to just yell at everyone for the whole show and Sam did all the work ;-) Speaking of CSI type shows.
Avatar 5:40pm
Linda Lee:

here's a real nice 'pink panther' cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have a Pink Panther trivia question in the next speaking bit ;-)
Avatar 5:41pm
ARB:

this song gets me every single time!
  5:41pm
Martinibomb:

Oh gawd his yelling! YESS so funny also my fave Quincy show is on the tour boat and people are tripping out. Turns out the taco bowl had ergot poisoning. Lol ergot is rye hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Rich in Washington:

Right on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I mean ... the best Quincy episode is the punk one ;-)
I did actually write an article for that on the LHT website. I do need to fire all that up again :-)
Avatar 5:42pm

I remember once being on a road trip with my grandparents and rather late at night, we stopped at a truckstop for gas and I saw the most amazingly scary kids standing outside the station with thumbs out. They looked windblown and wild, like crazy hair and clothes. Thinking back I am sure they were proto-punk kids, like New York Dolls-looking, almost. I remember my rather stodgy grandfather sort of tsk tsking about them.
Avatar 5:52pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, you gotta drive Lombard St. it's fun.
  5:52pm
Martinibomb:

They don't have to digitally alter it .. you can play things from a major key in a minor key. Musicians can play the same *pattern* back in whatever key they want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - stay away from those punkers and druggies, kids! ;-)
Avatar 5:53pm
Linda Lee:

I've heard a little bit of that major/minor transposition. it is weird!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - to be fair, it does look fun :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - how does the negative harmony thing work? It's so intriguing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm

My grandpa was totally obsessed with us kids hanging out with hippies and druggies. It was like spending summers with Joe Friday.

it probably set you back a bit, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm

but my grandma lived long enough to see me become a leather'd, studded n' tattoo'd punk kid and she thought it was cool and would ask all kinds of questions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - my mum used to claim that hippies took drugs and flower children were into peace and necklaces and flowers, and because she wore kaftans, she was a flower child ;-)
  5:55pm
Martinibomb:

@GG negative harmony isn't that hard to understand but there are utube vids that can explain it better than I can in a few words here.
Avatar 5:56pm

Yeah, LL, there was some folks in the Ukraine who had this amazing Major/Minor & vice versa YouTube channel and it was amazing.

My mother also claims that Florence Henderson drove the Partridge Family bus.
Yeah ... lol
Avatar 5:59pm
Mr Fab:

I'm not familiar with negative harmony. But it doesn't seem to have to do with changing from minor to major (or vice versa). Seems more like playing something in a different key. Tho I don't know how 'negative harmony' is different from key modulation.
Avatar 6:00pm
Linda Lee:

I think I'd like living there too, GG :-D

  6:20pm
