Holy Tire Iron  Side One   Favoriting Work In Progress... Volume Ten  Holy Tire Iron  1994  Cassette  Holy Tire Iron was a 90s audio zine project by Reverend Raye, from West Somerville, Massachusetts. One would call the phone number and listen to the stories that others had left on the machine. It was not a 900 service, so if you were outside of the Boston area you had to pay for long distance phone charges. There was no advertising, the 'message changed every day,' and was made up of what callers called in. It was active for a number of years in the early-mid 1990s. The motto was "Inspiration is only a phone call away" and Raye called it free public media and added "Would you like fries with your art?"

Crazy phone call line, where folks called in. One of those zine/tape projects. Used to trade with Rev Raye, hoping he finds this project being documented and reaches out. I added the tapes that I have to Discogs, www.discogs.com...

So I missed the explanation of this. There was a line people could call and just leave whatever was on their mind? Was there a prompt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
ParUbi:

Oh wait, I scrolled up. Sorry!
Avatar 5:42pm
Otis Fodder:

I remember calling the line myself in 1994 or 1995. I heard the previous recent messages left (was like 2 or 3 I think, memory hazy) but you did hear messages and then could leave your message. After they were compiled unedited into this audio zine. The Good, the bad and the really ugly.
Avatar 5:44pm
Otis Fodder:

It's like 'almost' as icky sometimes as the WFMU catalog tape "The Apology Line" which I want to play eventually in full on the show, but it's super dark.. if anyone also remembers the tape from the old Catalog of Curiosities. I added it to Discogs. Folks would call into a line and confess. A lot of creepy stuff. www.discogs.com...
