Hey Bill, everyone.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:05pm Sid:

No wonder Grace has been able to paint for the past 25 years.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:06pm mariano:

Is this the version of Someone to Love by Grace Slick's first band? I forget their name.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:07pm Snortley:

The Great Society, featuring Grace and other members of the Slick family.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:07pm Sid:

The Great Society
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:10pm Sid:

Somebody To Love (initially 'Someone to Love') co-written by Grace's then brother-in-law Darby Slick, pre-Airplane.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:12pm mariano:

Ah, that's right, thanks y'all!

she was probably jealous of Marty because he could sing
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:18pm coelacanth∅))):

...and write

Marty I heard quoted as saying wouldn't do Gracie with your stick...Yeah - believe all that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:20pm coelacanth∅))):

certainly believable
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gracie a great unique Singer. A singular Psycheedelic San Francisco Artiste. Marty a marvelous soaring more conventional Singer. Started the band @ his own venue ?
& they were great together. Also.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...kewl distinctive thang about SF Psych scene was people with dif backgrounds coming together to make a new thing
- which Airplane exemplifies...& worked kewl...cept when not.
  Sun. 12/1/19 4:25pm Jett:

Hey Bill, how about playing one from that Rue 66 album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:26pm coelacanth∅))):

re: Grace - no.
...she did write 2 good songs though, in the course of her career.
...and she was indeed a great harmony vocal for Balin's great voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

She was an atypical (for then) deep female voice - & more abstract & Psych. Quite original & influential.
  Sun. 12/1/19 4:40pm Jett:

Last time I saw Jefferson Airplane on television they had Cathy Richardson singing lead vocals. She's not bad, but can't compare to Grace in her best days.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:45pm mariano:

I was never a huge Airplane fan, though I didn't particularly dislike them either. It's just that all I ever heard on classic rock radio was White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. Then a few years back Netflix had a documentary on them, with lots of live footage, and I was blown away, have to say. It led to a deep dive into the rabbit hole of their discography. Have had a lot of respect for them since.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Never trust Commercial Radio ! :p
  Sun. 12/1/19 4:48pm Jett:

Always preferred the original version of "You Cheated" by The Slades, but the Shields version is good also.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:49pm mariano:

Amen to that, Rabbit. Was unfortunately all I had during my teenage years in the Bible Belt. Well, until thankfully Night Flight came along on USA, that was a real lifeline.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:56pm coelacanth∅))):

i always did and still do love the 'airplane just consider Grace extremely overrated and a lot of that attention simply because she was an openly sexual female in a male-dominated world.
i think she really wasn't a good singer. (nothing to do with her register!) and a bit of an arrogant person...
she sang harmonies well and her voice was good for that; but her almost bellowing singing when she sang lead doesn't do it for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/1/19 4:58pm coelacanth∅))):

(Marty Balin's beautiful voice fortunately usually dominated)
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 12/1/19 4:58pm Sid:

2 or 3 is ~way~ too young for your own nightstand.
  Sun. 12/1/19 7:39pm anonymous dj:

The J. A. were an impressive live band with stage presence who fronted a wild, psychedelic light show. I saw them 3x, 70-71.
  Sun. 12/1/19 8:36pm JoeR:

Anyone who thought Grace wasn't a great singer should listen to "Aerie" on Long John Silver album.
