After I did all the vaporwave editing, I got this ridiculously brilliant plugin called Izotope (?) Vinyl, and one of the things it can do is warp the crap out of music ;-) So that's the wonkiness you can hear. the rest is all speed and bass cut and reverb :-)

I was reading up on the subject and apparently malls had a reverb button that they could crank up depending on how many people were there. Plus they divided their cassettes up into shopping segments, so they would get more hectic at certain times of the day. All fascinating stuff :-)

There was a furniture store near the big Safeway when I was a kid and they had jars full of those sugar sticks (like candy canes without the hook). I always got a maple sugar one when we went there. This is making me want a time machine so I can go back and get one.

@Rich - Light Entertainment was HUGE when I was a kid. And the viewing figures have never been equalled. It was thrilling to know that you were watching the same Two Ronnies that millions of other people were watching :-) The Christmas specials always had insane figures.

This tape is fun because it's more the department store music of our youth. Another fun one is that Seeburg thing I mentioned earlier, but it's easily the music of a decade or two before - sort of reminds me of visiting a store in my early, early youth.
