Favoriting Cannibal Stew: Playlist from September 26, 2019 Favoriting

ARB swings to the other Belgian Popcorn. Very passionate vocalists, naive orchestrations, irreverent pranks.

I would love me an expressos, please!
Avatar 1:06pm
Mr Fab:

Yum yum, more groovy stew. Hi ARB, what a way to kick off a show: “Pad” and...an exotic version of “Straighten Up and Fly Right”?! Would not have occured to me, but Im glad it exists.
Avatar 1:07pm
arb:

I wouldn't refuse an expresso either

Ursula1000:

ooh these tracks are getting me in the mood for tomorrow's Burlesque Fest here in NY!
Avatar 1:10pm
Mr Fab:

To this day, ppl still say “expresso.” Which I imagine to be some kind of coffee that you can drink in a third of the time it takes to normally drink one. (And, since they sometimes come in those little cups, maybe you can?)
Avatar 1:12pm
Mr Fab:

A burlesque fest?! I want!
Avatar 1:13pm
Ursula1000:

yeah--"expresso" drives me crazy. I think they serve those at Eye-talian restaurants. Oof.
Avatar 1:13pm
arb:

Yeah I guess I got inspired by the Vedette documentary I just watched

Franco Twinkie:

Alina, I just found that Artie Barsamian album at Jacks Record Cellar in San Francisco. It's the perfect example of buying a record for the cover and been blown away when I get it home and listen to it.
Avatar 1:16pm
arb:

Oooh nice!!!
Avatar 1:18pm
Ursula1000:

Did Artie Barsamian do some belly dance records?
Avatar 1:18pm
Mr Fab:

I have a different album by Artie Barsamian And His Orch. I bought it cuz it has a track on it called “Balkan Rock.”
Avatar 1:18pm
arb:

He did
Avatar 1:19pm
Ursula1000:

ah I thought he sounded familiar. Ooh "Balkan Rock"---that's GOTTA be good!

Hey ARB and fellow listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Franco Twinkie:

I'm looking for it in this pig sty to no avail, but I love the way the liners notes proclaim that the players are the best Rhode Island has to offer...or something like that.

If a beard is a prerequisite for been in this club do I still need the application form? Wait a minute, let me brush out the dry oatmeal.

Legrand was a madman
Avatar 1:39pm
Ursula1000:

I first heard this in the early 90s on the amazing Inflight Entertainment comps put together by the UK's Karminsky Experience
Avatar 1:40pm
Mr Fab:

Like tattoos, i've never had a beard. i tried a goatee once, but I just looked like a cholo. Which to the LAPD would be like waving a red flag at a bull.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Franco Twinkie:

Di-Gue-Ding-Ding was quite a leap from The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg.
Avatar 1:41pm
Mr Fab:

Dang, that Legrand was grand.

ARB, What are those funny dialogue bits between songs?
Avatar 1:46pm
arb:

It's an episode of the Go-Go-Gophers.
My beard comment was in reference to the "Castro and his bearded friends" lyric, all modes of facial hair are friends of the stew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Franco Twinkie:

Mr.Fab, I rocked the cholo look for awhile without any problems. But regarding the LAPD, years ago I was walking though Venice and two cops in a cruiser called me Che.
Avatar 1:47pm
arb:

Ah, so you are a friend of Castro

I love how "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" refers to ladies of a certain profession as "gigolettes". Sounds so classy!

Mr Fab, that's my favorite part of that song too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm

Nowadays, when Franco is out and about, he gets "Hey, it's Jerry Garcia!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

Gigolettes sounds like a snack item. Wait a minute! In that context, I guess they are.
