FYI - Opening with a song like this makes me feel like a 'real' DJ!

Hello Jason and all. I'm late: a bookshop just opened in my sleepy little town, I had to check it out

Fred--I sort of feel like books are increasingly special artifacts. On the F train down here today I saw a woman reading a physical book that I think is very good (Margaret Atwood's Blind Assassin), and I almost felt like congratulating her for actually not having a phone in her hand (and reading fiction).

fred:

I don't think I'll be a customer there though: almost all books are in French (obviously) though they can do special orders. They had maybe 30 books in English: mostly classics, Harry Potter (is that a classic now?), but also Infinite Jest. Good luck selling that one.
Ordering from my usual bookshop can get complicated at times though, so it could be an option if/when Saul Kripke releases the next comp

Hi Linda! Yes, I'm totally borrowing this rendition for my weekly item on local radio.

hi Jan!
yes, the Passenger is on Lust for Life.
not a bad article on Iggy, it's true. Amanda is their journalist on the Iggy beat. she did the last one, too. she's good!

.. for someone who's likely too young to have revered him the way we late boomers did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
fred:

@LL: Maybe that's why she avoided referring to him as "Mr Pop". Though "Pop" still does sound weird
Avatar 11:38am
Linda Lee:

yes it does. :-D
interesting to find out there was a Jimmy Popp, too.

I once ended up with a great guest in my show phoning a youth choir, that had brought out a progrock mass on LP. The young composer turned out to have become a collegue music teacher with a lot of stories to tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
Jan Turkenburg:

It was an LP from the mid 80s, but the choir still existed and lead me to the ex-member of my age that had written the piece.

Next week I'll be back at work, and probably unable to listen. I hope I'm wrong, but ageing hardware and a - let's say - peculiar boss make listening tough

@Mr Fab: Welcome to the Trump age?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Mr Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
fred:

I kinda randomize my records. I have a section for projects I'm seen live, one for WFMU DJ premium (organized by air time for current show) and one for the rest. Beyond that it changes often, and not finding what I'm looking for but something I'd forgot about is a big plus
Avatar 1:17pm
Mr Fab:

Oof! Hadn't thought about it like that fred, but now that you mention it... Was thinking more like last Wednesday, when the World's Worst Records all-children show was followed by Georgie Girl's show playing excerpts from "The Joy of Sex." Typical Sheena's "problematic programming," as i like to call it.
Avatar 1:17pm
Mr Fab:

My records are loosly arranged by genre. i can't remember all the artist names.
Avatar 1:26pm
Linda Lee:

'problematic programming' is why we love Sheena, Mr. F!
it's wonderful.
Avatar 1:27pm
Linda Lee:

don't ever change, Sheena! XX
Avatar 1:30pm
Mr Fab:

Thanks Linda! Really appreciate it. I promise to only change it in attempts to make it wonderful-er and problematical-er.

HA!
There's this legendary, perhaps apocryphal story of a Saturday Jazz programmer on KBOO who had become entangled in both his headphone cable AND the leash of his small dog, with no one else in the station, and he actually called out for help on the air.
A few old time DJs swear it happened. Sadly long before even in-station FCC logging, so lost to time.
Maybe playing on Alpha Century in a few years.

I wish I took before and after pics of the nightmarish tangle of audio cables I used to have in this gigantic gym bag that I would STUFF under my bed. I spent the better part of a day untangling, isolating, giving a proper wrap and velcro tying them all up and now they're somewhat organized in one of those huge underbed bins.
