my sister burns incense nearby when she's in one place for a long time outside -which is usually because she obsesses about weeds (very much to the detriment of her garden/yard) and will sit in one spot digging up weeds (destroying the ecology) for like over an hour at a time.
she says it does keep the skeeters and gnats away, though not as well as some sunblock/repellent that i don't know the name of.

@melinda@10:52, yes yes yes we need to focus *heavily* on state & local elections. Now that the slimy Supreme Court has declared that states can gerrymander all they want, those state legislatures are more important than ever.

Local Govt. has always been important - & Congress too is a critical reason to get thee to the polls...very untrendy, I know...

@Ike exactly. There is a movement afoot to enact election reforms and anti-corruption legislation at state and local levels, which I think is crucial to everything. Unfortunately our current media culture encourages people to hyper-focus on hot-button issues only, and local stuff/campaign reform etc. is decidedly cold-button.

Since you asked: Studying the hot dog selection, trying to make a sensible choice.(Nathan's) Considering the fruit options for a pie (Apricot, plum, cherry) Trimming the tree away from the house numbers so the UPS man can't say he couldn't see the address. That's life in the suburbs for you.

Rev, in an interview w/ FT, Putin claimed “the liberal idea” had “outlived its purpose”, and the public had turned their back on social tolerance, multiculturalism and immigration. Around same time our fella said - It’s a great honor to be with President Putin.... We have many things to discuss, including trade and including some disarmament.” He forgot to mention military parades though...

Yup Putin uses the same tactic as Republicans, blatantly using nativist crap and jabbering about the importance of "traditional" "family" crap as cover for his continued kleptocratic theft and hoarding of $$$ (billions?) in Panama or wherever etc. and also using the Russian Orthodox church as cover.... On a totally different note at least there's some good news somewhere though. New York Times: "HPV vaccines are so effective that cervical cancer could ultimately be eliminated, a new study finds." Thanks Daniel!
