@coe., yeah, I was thinking it could be a woman but I think those situations are less common than ones where a man tries to dominate and control. Unfortunately, it can be hard to end even a bad relationship and people who take abuse can start believing they kind of deserve it.

If one can extrapolate from physical abuse, it's clear statistically that men are much more likely to be the perpetrators of that. You could say that men are less likely to report it if they are the victims but I don't think that would make up for the sex differential. I bet there are stats to support men being more commonly controlling and abusive in relationships.
