Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:03am listener james from westwood:

Howdy, all! Still readjusting to non-conference/Providence-vacation existence but happy to be listening live to GTDR!
  Sun. 4/7/19 9:05am Listener Gregory:

Yesterday, I sat in the park, took off my jacket and even took off my sweater. That is the first time since September 9 of last year.
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:05am northguineahills:

actually here....
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:06am northguineahills:

I've worn a jacket maybe 15 times in the last year, never needed a sweater....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:08am Jeff Golick:

Long may it reign, @Listener Gregory. Welcome!

Hi, @hyde!
Hey, @listener james! Enjoy that vacay!
And way to rub it in @ngh...

Welcome, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:11am listener james from westwood:

Hah, I garbled my post—the vacay part is over, too. Also brought home a cold that's further tangling my fingers! Familiar milestones of the FMU schedule are getting me thru!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:12am Jeff Golick:

Ah, @ljfw. Well, hope you feel better soon! How was Providence?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:12am fred:

Good morning Jeff and listeners.
I'm still somewhat bummed I couldn't get a ticket to see Han Bennink this week. Then again, maybe I'm already sleep-deprived enough
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:14am Jeff Golick:

Hello, @fred! Was it Han solo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:14am fred:

@Jeff: Yes
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:15am northguineahills:

@Jeff: But I wore a hoody most days December-March.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:18am fred:

@ngh: Did you get that job? I hope you'll need that sweater again
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:20am northguineahills:

I probably won't find out until this week at the earliest, I've had some jobs where it took months from the interview until I was informed of the result.
  Sun. 4/7/19 9:24am Listener Gregory:

The low frequencies in this cut are making me feel I'm in church.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:27am Jeff Golick:

Good luck to you, @ngh.

Definitely some churchly overtones, @LG. (Undertones?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:29am fred:

@Listener Gregory: I heard a piece by Eliane Radigue on pipe organ in a church two days ago. At first I was standing on a wooden floor above a crypt and the lower frequency vibrations were maybe more felt through my feet than my ears
  Sun. 4/7/19 9:29am Doug Schulkind:

The Stifling Stank is going to be the name of my next radio show. Good morning, Jeff G snd all Outbounders!

Jessie is out of town and I’m playing hooky from yoga so I can catch all three hours of D:O. Yay for me!
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:30am northguineahills:

Milford Graves & Bill Laswell, how in hades did I miss this one!????!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:30am fred:

@Doug: Isn't it against the rule to name your show after your first band in high school? Then again, I guess you get to make the rules on your stream
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:31am Sem:

Good morning, Jeff, the D:O faithful, and those who find themselves at this destination for the first time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:33am Jeff Golick:

Wow, we got @Doug for the full three! Let the puns rain down like sunshine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 9:33am Jeff Golick:

@fred: that show sounds very cool.

@Sem! Welcome and good morning to you!

First rule: Break all the rules. (Of course, by breaking the rule, you are following the rule. So we’re screwed either way.)
  Sun. 4/7/19 9:58am Listener Gregory:

The sound of this recording (Sarah Louise) is awesome. I feel I'm inside the guitar.
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 9:59am hyde:

geez, an hour already. where does the day go
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:02am fred:

@Doug: The noise scene in Amiens, France, is known for its love of puns in band or song names. The music may not appeal to you though

@Jeff very sweet sound
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:17am northguineahills:

I like Jeff Sarge, but sometimes he skirts too close to silky smooth reggae (and I love all things reggae-fied).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:18am Doug Schulkind:

I just raked last fall's leaves off the front yard. (With D:O blasting the earbuds!) Also, I put away the snow shovel and sidewalk salt. So when it blizzards next week, blame me.

Not *your* front yard, silly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:21am Jeff Golick:

Braxton's rhythm section: Misha Mengelberg (p), Joe Fonda (b), Pheeroan akLaff (d).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:24am Jeff Golick:

Now I think I might've mixed up the horn solos.

Zorn and Bern together again for the first and last time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:26am listener james from westwood:

Providence was quite nice; my first visit! We were in a flat section but I had a chance to explore some areas that required steep hill climbs. Helped work off the conference social-event booze and pre-session doughnuts!
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:29am hyde:

@ljfw it is a nice little city. I used to live 20 minutes from there and both my parents were born thee. Hope you had a New York System hot dog and a coffee milk
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:31am northguineahills:

A friend of mine just sent me pics of Keiji Haino and Yamataka Eye playing at his gallery in LA. Apparently, Eye is where an upper body suit that triggers sounds.... Would love to witness that....
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:32am northguineahills:

@james: I've only been dockside in Providence. (friend had a boat near Kingston).
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:32am hyde:

@ngh wow
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:34am Jeff Golick:

Went to college in Providence and have very warm memories of it. It's a nicer town now, too. Unpaved the river, for one thing.
  Sun. 4/7/19 10:35am Listener Gregory:

I lived in Providence and Cranston for 10 years—and survived to tell the tale!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:36am fred:

@ngh: A friend once tried to introduce me to Keiji Haino. It didn't go well (I'm an introvert with no interest in meeting artists I like unless I have something to say, and he's Keiji Haino). An awkward but short moment
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

Bloody hell is this set hitting the spot!
  Sun. 4/7/19 10:39am Listener Gregory:

@JG ah, the Woonasquatucket
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:40am hyde:

i love Air
  Sun. 4/7/19 10:41am Listener Gregory:

This was my introduction to Henry Threadgill. I haven't listened to it in years, but it's fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:43am listener james from westwood:

One of my fellow editors made it a point to seek out a New York System dog—and succeeded! Coffee milk syrup (?) was offered as a prize in the organization's fundraising silent auction, and some of the editors sought it out on their own too. For me it was the first conference to which I could actually drive, so that was a plus; only about 3 hr out of the major traffic times to NE NJ. And the restored river was indeed peaceful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:44am fred:

The good Air, thanks for that. Though I'll admit my dislike for the French band is mostly class-based (I don't care enough about their music alone to dislike them)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:45am Jeff Golick:

Oh almost forgot! Here's that John Allen special on Milford Graves (with the director of the doc) from last July: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:45am listener james from westwood:

I also made it up (literally) to Federal Hill for a lovely dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant (Massimo) with a bunch of my editor pals. One friend had duck there over which she was rapturous. And the highest possible compliment on the meatballs: they were exactly like Mom's, and therefore mine. A-mazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:49am Jeff Golick:

That sounds wonderful, @ljfw. Are the center traffic lines of Federal Hill still painted the colors of the Italian flag?
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 10:52am northguineahills:

Ok, out for a walk, will be back in a bit...
  Sun. 4/7/19 10:52am Dean:

See for yourself, Jeff G.

I now have a sudden urge to visit RI today. Good polpette are signs of god's providence.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:53am listener james from westwood:

Jeff: Didn't happen to spot them, as I was more focused on the rush-hour traffic we all were walking through! But it wouldn't surprise me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:53am listener james from westwood:

@Dean: Ah, we have confirmation—thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:55am fleep:

  Sun. 4/7/19 10:56am Listener Gregory:

Providence was the last place where I remember seeing a butcher with live chickens you could pick out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 10:58am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Dean! Hiya, @fleep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:00am Jeff Golick:

Oh, and take care, @ngh!
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:04am Listener Gregory:

Just opened a package with a desiccant pack in it. Should I eat it? I always wonder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:05am Jeff Golick:

What does it say on the packet, @LG?
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:08am Listener Gregory:

It either says "do not throw" and "eat away" or "do not eat" and "throw away." I think that means they're leaving it up to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:10am Jeff Golick:

That seems the most reasonable interpretation.
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:11am hyde:

@LG i know that butcher, as far as i know it's still there. they do live rabbits too.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:12am rw:

Hey. Is it morning already?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:14am Jeff Golick:

Just about, @rw! Or: it's gotta be morning somewhere....
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:14am Sem:

Wow, thot it was a flashback, and it is. Thx, I guess, Jeff:-b
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:14am Listener Gregory:

@hyde That is a relief.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:15am Dean:

Heard Graham Parker last night in Berkeley. The woman at the will-call table was pleasantly surprised to see a WFMU t-shirt. She used to live in Brooklyn, knew the station, but perhaps didn't realize it is available over the Web.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:18am rw:

Cool. Thanks JG. Good morning!
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:18am TDK60:

..how was Graham Parker, Dean?
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:18am Sem:

Beautiful morning of music to match this beautiful Spring day here. My next destination is OUT, so see you and all next time, Jeff. Ciao for now.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:21am rw:

Later Sem. Have a good one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:22am Jeff Golick:

Bye, @Sem! Thanks for being here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:22am fred:

@Dean: A former coworker recently moved to Berkeley. Having shared an office with me, he's familiar with WFMU T-shirts, though he probably never listened (he's a composer/researcher/software developer/professor/dad, so is pretty busy)
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:22am Dean:

He was very good, TDK60, maybe the best of the three times I've seen him, all in recent years. I particularly enjoyed his last visit, because Brinsley Schwarz (the man, not the band) accompanied him, but last night, solo, he was in good spirits. He has a new album, a new remastered version of Squeezing Out Sparks, and a new all-acoustic version of SOS. Not surprisingly, he played a number of tunes from that album, among others. He forgot the lyrics to "Saturday Night Is Dead," which he claims happened even in the '70s. Stopped the show and begged the audience to help. A woman in the front row, eventually, figured them out for him.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:23am Dean:

Alas, I don't usually wear the t-shirts to work on campus, but I ordinarily do around town. I'll prepare to be stopped by fred's friend.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:29am Listener Gregory:

Eating the desiccant has made me feel frisky, so I'm going to cut out early and enjoy the sunshine, which I think isn't going to last all day. Will catch up on the arch. Thanks, Jeff.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:29am Dean:

Jeff G., you realize you announced a new record from *Alison* Lurie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:29am fred:

@Dean: You work on campus?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:29am Jeff Golick:

Frisk on, @LG! Great to see you.
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:29am TDK60:

I said hello to a WFMU T-shirt wearer the other day but they ignored me; oh well..
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:30am Dean:

Or was I hearing things?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:30am Jeff Golick:

Uh...I wouldn't be surprised, Dean, but I don't remember! Also, haven't read Luie, so less likely?
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:30am Dean:

I do, fred.
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:32am hyde:

my girlfriend is vacuuming, so i can neither confirm nor deny that you said Alison
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:33am fred:

@Dean: His name is Carmine Cella, he's now an assistant professor at CNMAT. Cool guy, but always running late on at least 5 things, so a bit harried
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:33am Doug Schulkind:

Jeff Golick, was your aim true?
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:34am Dean:

Oh, right, fred! You'd mentioned him before. CNMAT is so cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:35am Jeff Golick:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's electric! @Granny Spicy Tuna!
Avatar Sun. 4/7/19 11:43am northguineahills:

Checked out the local art fair outdoors, most was cutesy folksy art, but there were two interesting instrument builders and one sculptor who's work reminded me of Richard Serra. The food actually looked good (a lot of ethnic food).
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:43am rw:

I heard Alison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

Well played, Dean.

You got it, @ngh!
Thanks, @TDK60!
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:54am Dean:

I think you meant, "Sonny & Cher rocks!," ngh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 11:56am Doug Schulkind:

So gorgeous.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:56am rw:

This is the weirdest Sonny & Cher-rock I've ever heard. Groovy.
  Sun. 4/7/19 11:57am rw:

So, if my client is being annoying do I give them good work or half-ass it? I'm not really in the mood but I do have a reputation to uphold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 12:00pm fred:

@rw: Do good work now, but charge them way more next time
  Sun. 4/7/19 12:00pm Dean:

Annoying as in being unrealistic and too demanding about the work sought, or as in pestering and harassing you about unrelated stuff? Either way, you should do your best, but I can see maybe fudging a little if the latter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 12:02pm fred:

Thanks Jeff, now I think I need to take a nap (Sonic Protest + 100% fallout)
  Sun. 4/7/19 12:02pm rw:

Thanks, guys. It's not in my nature to do bad work. Mostly I was venting. I also have trouble charging too much but I may hit them with a hefty rush charge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/7/19 12:03pm listener james from westwood:

rw: "Asshole tax" comes to mind. Apply that rush charge.
Jeff: Many thanks!

Off to run errants.

That was intentional. Thanks for the Sunday morning vibe-setting.
