he wrote this piece to have something to entertain himself with on an internal flight in Germany the next day. set up the background loop and then just improvised all the guitar over the top in one take. an hour long. total legend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
tom from Glasgow:

great article about it in the December 2011 issue of The Wire if you can find that somewhere

Yay, made it for Gottsching.

@KFHP as long as we don’t get stepped on:)

I was wondering where I knew this from, and Wikipedia informs me that Carl Craig remixed it and Basic Channel remixed his remix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm

So that's where the techno comes in.

pretty sure Fabio's show is where i first heard this Gate and it prompted me to pick it up, aweseom double lp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Kat in Chicago:

I approve of the groove
  3:39pm
Rail barge:

Brilliant flow among these first three tracks, DJ.
Avatar 🎸 3:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

I think it was THIS VERY PROGRAM. A while back. The Lavender Head was spun as well as the one by Claudio Rocchi (Suoni Di Frontiera) ...

Bought the Gate immediately & finally scored the Rocchi this week. This can be an expensive show.
  3:43pm
Rail barge:

Not that flow among and between tracks is necessary, nor that such flow must be consciously constructed.
  3:44pm
John from Florham Park:

@Kat I agree nice groove makes me want to get up and dance
  3:45pm
Spring ephemeral:

Well it is easy to buy the "wrong" version of Lavender Head by mistake

[checks playlist search] .. good lord, that Strength Thru Failure was way back, nov.'17.

where do the time go.

Fabio don’t forget Morley’s old Tanaka-Nixon Meeting with Danny (waitforit) Butt — proto-tekno from around the same time as Lavender Head. Morley!

So, they hand out gas masks and hazmat suits?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
ɨkɛ:

Just 55 more favorites to get "Mr. Giant Man" ahead of that weasel-licking sack of man-whore snot, Don Felder, and his incredibly stupid song! Come on people, clicky-star away!
  4:01pm
Love Lavendar:

Yeah and there's lots of fire and brimstone, holographs of people being sucked up into the sky, shrieking, moaning, praying, babbling, separation of the good from the bad....
Avatar 4:01pm
βrian:

But Mr. Giant Man makes young children cry.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm

Avatar 4:13pm

Can we get the X, Ex, Circle X, and Circle play together?
  4:14pm
Love Lavendar:

@NGH--yeah, like that but I guess it would be more like a haunted house (though the Holy Land experience might be like that too...?)
Avatar 4:16pm
Chris from DC:

NGH, maybe let Xex jump on the bill?
Avatar 4:16pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just had lemon lavender bar, of which there was much urgent gnashing.

@Chresti, wait, what? You are one of the most fortunate WFMU listeners alive if you have not been subjected to the immense, world-consuming mediocrity of that dim-witted Don Felder hog-slop. At first it seems unremarkably dopey, but over time and through repetition each week on FMU, it has become the mind-flayer, a deep dive into how something vaguely idiotic can wear away your soul until your mental teeth grind apart your brain's integrity. It wouldn't be notable if a *terrible* DJ played it every week, but everything else on Garbage Time is great, so it stands out even further by comparison.
Avatar 4:30pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if Oval, what not Opal
...& @ that rate, Neil Diamond's @ the door...
Avatar 🎸 4:30pm

The post-Felder tune is always imminently listenable, perhaps by comparison.

I was at Metrograph last night for 'Blade Runner'. Such a great little joint. Dinner and drinks before hand were f-a-b.
  4:43pm

What the...is this a cover of Terry Riley?
  4:45pm

I wonder if eboli is related to ebola...

Still with ya Fabio. Hope the studio booth is not too warm or cold and that the rug has been vacuumed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm

The rug being vacuumed is just a bit too luxurious for FMU
Avatar 5:41pm
geezerette:

...they have a rug?!

Each DJ has to bring their own rug.
