Hi all. For the first time, Sheena's Jungle Room is participating in the Marathon so if you appreciate how we give you not only the world's worst records, but the world's best cheezy soundtrack library music, click on that box up there that says "Pledge now." And if you pledge enough, you - yes, YOU! - can get Georgy's prize CD.

My extra special, lemon-scented, chocolate-coated CD :-) Ok, maybe some of those things aren't true but the CD is awesome ;-)

I second that

That was such a shock when he passed. :-( He was best friends with Mike Nesmith which I didn't find out until about a year later.

I just watched Shada again last night

Rich in Lunchroomland:

I have to say again, this is one of the coolest and most novel ways to experience library music. I don't have a ton of it, but find listening to lots of it dry in one go is challenging for me. it's akin to listening to a soundtrack to a film you've never seen, which is fun at times, I suppose.
But this show is always fun.
Avatar 3:13pm

The radio version is my very favorite medium for HGTTG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's so evocative. I *LOVE* radio plays :-)
  3:18pm
Martinibomb:

Yeah that radio play and asimovs foundation are my two fave radio dramas love all the synths sound design etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

While using what??? What does the T stand for??? lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm

You get a short story done as a radio play on my Modernists premium CD if you pledge :-)

Mr Fab:

The somewhat crappy tv adaption was my first exposure, but hey, it was good enough to send me to the books.
  3:20pm
Martinibomb:

Yeah that and the narnia tv series
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Zaphod's second head was not the BBC's finest hour it has to be said ...
  3:21pm
RiW:

I discovered HGTTG and Ken Nordine's Word Jazz around the same time. Our local PBS affiliate OPB ran them sometime in the early 80s, I think back-to-back, if I'm not mistaken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

WOW!!! That must have been a hell of an introduction! How fantastic is that? :-)
  3:23pm
RiW:

the TV adaptation was fun. The guy they cast as Ford Prefect was a bit off, but I quite enjoyed it as well.
Avatar 3:23pm
Mr Fab:

Seeing his Dr Who episodes, it's apparent that Adams was using the Doctor as a "Hitchhikers" warm-up. Even if he didn't know it at the time. Unless I'm reading into it, but seems like there are hints to come all over those episodes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I met him at the Barbican about 15 years ago :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

Ya know for all the low budget fx the bbc used for 70s/80s I still love that stuff more than many of the shows they make today. Old dr who is waaay better than the last 10years my humble opinion
Avatar 3:31pm
Linda Lee:

is it just about an analogue look & sound, Martinibomb? hopefully not just nostalgia, but something about quality..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yeah .. I can't get into the new Dr Who.
  3:32pm
Martinibomb:

I think its the writing and i do lve old bbc sound design
Avatar 3:32pm

the writing! cool!

Nigel kneale was one of the best tv writers ever
Avatar 3:33pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ah! Nigel Kneale! Beasts! :-)
Avatar 3:34pm
Linda Lee:

but writing is another thing..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Rich in Washington:

I think older BBC things were just so creative, maybe due to limited budgets and resources. The Radiophonics Workshop is a really good example. Ironically, technological advances such as cheaper synthesizers was sort of their downfall. They no longer needed a staff or engineers and creative spring twangers and tape wranglers.
  3:35pm
Martinibomb:

Yeah! Beasts wow that series blew my mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Some of the stuff that the Radiophonic Workshop produced is nothing short of genius :-)
Avatar 3:35pm
Linda Lee:

gosh, that's depressing. abandoned craft, iow
Avatar 3:35pm
Mr Fab:

My wife the David Tennet fan would take extreme issues with that, M-Bomb!

I remember running across a site dedicated to the music used the the BBC radio version of HG. I can't find it now.

The Tennent era at least got my wife into Dr. Who, so we'd binge it together. Even the newest season, which neither of us are particularly keen on, but it's something to watch.

Right, LL? Think it is because of the client or project or something? Otherwise, why not make a new name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think it's literally - "Give us 5 pieces of music on a technology theme. Driving beat. Some synths. But 5 slightly different tempos." :-)
Avatar 3:53pm
Linda Lee:

unless we're presenting the client choices for a specific purpose, like old fashioned chinese restaurant menus
Avatar 3:53pm
Mr Fab:

hi Katya! In production library music, they often have the same track in varying lengths, hence the 'A' 'B" etc
Avatar 3:54pm
Linda Lee:

right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've got some where ypu have 15 different tracks all in a sequence from A ro whatever and they're all about 20 seconds long :-)
