Avatar 7:03pm
TDK60:

I have new neighbors moving in upstairs; will they be as noisy as the previous ones? (frets...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm
Dave in Vermont:

you'll have to drown them out with Afternoon (Lake)
Avatar 7:06pm
βrian:

Sound levels are low. Naturally, I suppose, but I can just barely detect the audio nectar.
Avatar 7:06pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Dave! this one starts out pretttty quiet..
Avatar 7:08pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey TDK60, fingers crossed for you.
Hi βrian, I just turned it up a little, try to keep it a little on the low side in general but yeah this one is particularly sparse at the start
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm
chresti:

Hi Jesse and noises! TDK60- if they are noisy, record them
Avatar 7:08pm
βrian:

Ah, yes. The breeze is picking up.
Avatar 7:08pm
TDK60:

..hello DJ Jesse K. I thought I heard you there...
Avatar 7:09pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

hey chresti! the best revenge is documentation..

Dave in Vermont:

i was just generally referring to your racket, neighbor, I understand the need for deep listening, especially in the early sections
speaking of Deep Listening, Pauline Oliveros died two years ago this week. Someone on another playlist posted a video if her talking about Deep Listening (was that you TDK60?):

Thanks Dave, for the link (at a TED talk!)

That wake is going to tear up the shore line, I tell you. I don't like it!

"The interpretation of sound waves is subject to time delays. Sometimes what is heard is interpreted anywhere from milliseconds to many years later or never."
Avatar 7:17pm
TDK60:

Hiya Chresti: I should record, get big in the field recording field, high on the charts, tours, new house, pool....
Avatar 7:17pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

...or never" is a good point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
chresti:

Yeah! Take it to the bank! @TDK60
Avatar 7:21pm
northguineahills:

off to the homestead, hear ya there!
Avatar 7:21pm
βrian:

That reminds me of the image of a roulette ball rolling around, seemingly indefintely, before it finally drops — or doesn't. That might be more the case with spoken word, though.
Avatar 7:22pm
βrian:

@Not Homestead, FL, though. I wouldn't go there ...
Avatar 7:23pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

hey northguineahills, catch you at the home!
Avatar 7:23pm

Howdy all :)
Avatar 7:24pm

everything depends on the red kayak
Avatar 7:29pm

@Dave in VT - Sure does.....don't tell the others :)
Avatar 7:29pm

... and the plums in the refrigerator. So sweet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Dave in Vermont:

someone's partying behind the Popovic amphitheater
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Dave in Vermont:

they must be celebrating the plums
Avatar 7:31pm
TDK60:

..looked it up, Vrnik a little island on Dalmatian coast of Croatia; I've heard it's right perty there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Sam Segal:

Feeling this, Jesse!
Avatar 7:33pm
βrian:

@Dave in VT: Say, are you still celebrating that apple brandy? Shelburne's finest?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Dave in Vermont:

those noisy bugs really know how to do it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Dave in Vermont:

I finished that sooo long ago- maybe I will get more soon, i am guessing they will have another release but don't really know - i helped make pies for the pie fest this year, but have mostly been out of touch
Avatar 7:37pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey welcome Sam, glad to hear it!
Avatar 7:44pm
northguineahills:

Back!
Avatar 7:46pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

welcome back!
Avatar 8:00pm
βrian:

Only tangential, but if leaf-blower burnings were a thing, I have to admit I'd be right there tossing them in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
melinda:

Hi all!
Avatar 8:05pm
redkayak:

I heard my name....what? :)
Avatar 8:06pm
redkayak:

@Brian - they are a pox on the land, for sure....
Avatar 8:07pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey melinda!
@redkayak just vocalizing the chat window!
Avatar 8:10pm
david_:

It's a good idea, I even heard one leafblower compare itself to Jesus
Avatar 8:11pm
βrian:

I'm sure that made Leif appreciate Jesus, anyway.
Avatar 8:12pm
david_:

We got an ordinance here that don't allow those suckers till noon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm

haha david_

Avatar 8:15pm
redkayak:

@jesse - thanx --you made my week ;)

@david_ more towns need such laws. Too much damn noise
Avatar 8:15pm
david_:

which means with this amount of daylight they get like 5 hours max
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
chresti:

manual blowers with bellows
Avatar 8:18pm
redkayak:

.....and you kids get off my lawn :)
Avatar 8:18pm
david_:

i find raking therapeutic... I also wouldn't mind if Kaminsky went the full hour with this track
Avatar 8:19pm
βrian:

The weird thing is, rakes work perfectly well, with minimal additonal effort.

And they sound nice.
Avatar 8:19pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

hey ike!
Avatar 8:19pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey david_ I don't need tempting!
Avatar 8:21pm
david_:

Sweet! Yeah basically the audio value of lawnblowers is on par with the audio of tv commercials... a rare example of audio not worth exploring
Avatar 8:21pm
redkayak:

@david/Brian - waiting for the day when they permit leaf burning again. That is one smell of autumn forever banished in this Brave New World of ours....
Avatar 8:22pm
TDK60:

..digging the William Basinski..
Avatar 8:23pm
david_:

They allow leaf burning in the northern states of the Northeast, it is a nice smell on a rainy day
Avatar 8:26pm
βrian:

Over the years, various state law enforcement agencies have had special dispensation to burn leaves, but thankfully, this is no longer so common.
Avatar 8:27pm
redkayak:

@david - - It has been banned for probably 40 years around here. I was going to burn some a couple weeks back - risk the fine - just for nostalgia's sake...
Avatar 8:29pm
βrian:

I find it perplexing that a composer like William Basinski can live in NYC. I mean, how does he listen, or even think, with all of that noise?
Avatar 8:32pm
david_:

to me leaf/brush burnings are what the '80s smelled like
Avatar 8:32pm
david_:

the '90s smelled like those magazine perfume inserts
Avatar 8:34pm
david_:

@βrian www.youtube.com...
Avatar 8:35pm
βrian:

Ah, that guy was on mushrooms!
Avatar 8:37pm
βrian:

.. just like Nabokov was on butterflies ...
Avatar 8:40pm
david_:

composer-mycologist is a good combination of fields
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
melinda:

@david I'm impressed with anyone who is either one of those.
Avatar 8:43pm
northguineahills:

John Cage was a composer who was an amateur mycologist and lived in NYC....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Dave in Vermont:

thanks for the link
Avatar 8:46pm
northguineahills:

I find when I'm in the suburbs at my bros' or parents' it seems noiser then NYC (except for jackhammer day), w/ everyone's obsession w/ keeping manicured lawns and starting said work at the crack of dawn....
Avatar 8:47pm
TDK60:

βrian: NYC is noisy. There are times/places when it's more quiet. Maybe Basinsky has a quiet place?
Avatar 8:47pm
northguineahills:

ok, I'm off for a walk. Be back probably after 10.
Avatar 8:47pm
david_:

Cage would have had a great time going upstate looking for mushrooms this year, what with all the rain
Avatar 8:48pm
northguineahills:

My side yard is nothing but fungi right now....
Avatar 8:49pm
david_:

To me when I lived there and made music it was all just a matter of a good pair of headphones
Avatar 8:49pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Have a wonderful walk northguineahills!
Avatar 8:57pm
βrian:

@TDK60: Yeah, but how many fomer missile silos are under NYC? It just doesn't figure.

Even if pure silence were a thing, wherefrom comes natural noise?
Avatar 9:00pm
david_:

Studios are quiet
Avatar 9:02pm
david_:

Or we can take a stroll down the river charles to the anechoic chamber
Avatar 9:05pm
TDK60:

βrian: I know not. Maybe Basinsky (& other musicians) can write with noise around. Your other question is too weighty for me: I just wanna rock...or listen to ambient..heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
Uncle Michael:

Basinski, Basoutski?

when it's quiet, my tinnitus gets louder
Avatar 9:39pm
βrian:

Sn-tinnitus – it's in the can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
melinda:

@chresti I'm sorry you have tinnitus, that sucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
melinda:

I think Spring is the only season not associated with obnoxious loud equipment, otherwise it's snowblowers, leaf blowers or lawn mowers.
Avatar 9:48pm
still b/p:

I've got some of the tinnitus, not severe...hoping/theorizing it's just related to something with nerves linked to teeth. Take care of one issue someday, maybe the other goes away, hey? Keeping my ears crossed that it's not permanent.

lyrics on Neigbor's Noise!
