Americans love cars. FunFact™: “The Transformers” were basically a collection of semi-random cool transforming toys sold into Japan. Until Hasbro decided to bring them to the U.S. and then—working with Marvel Comics writers—they came up with the narrative of “Autobots versus Decepticons.”

So it’s basically “Cars” versus anything else that is not a car… LIKE SOCIALISM!!!

Thanks for the Norman Westberg earlier Daniel! Probably one of my favorite albums this year. Wanted to see him at union Pool pretty bad but just too tapped out that night.

This is very good. A hippie anthem made contemporary. Don't we all feel helpless?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:42pm northguineahills:

@Jake: I have tons of Japanese transformers from my time in Japan (as a kid) that are now at my parents house, most never made the US market.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:44pm JakeGould:

@northguineahills: If they are in decent shape—or at least complete—those are worth a pretty penny on eBay.
  Fri. 7/27/18 10:44pm chresti:

It’s clouding up- might miss the eclipse
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:45pm northguineahills:

They are definitely not mint (they were played w/), and my father sold most of the lot for $20 when I left for college (my mother, bros. and I were furious, we knew the value, even back then).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:49pm JakeGould:

Only $20? Even in played-in condition those could easily fetch about $200 a piece at least. Anyway, we all have stories like that of things being lost due to relatives being a bit callous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:49pm Daniel Blumin:

Joe, thanks fer the earses!!! Franco, welcome onboard! Glad ya dug!

Hey Daniel! Just got in from a terrific day of breathing smog. This hits the spot after listing to Friday traffic updates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:55pm melinda:

This sounds like a medium-speed boat to China, on choppy waters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:57pm Daniel Blumin:

No traffic updates here, Franco! You are safe! We are just oscillating over heres!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 10:57pm northguineahills:

@Jake: Then there is the time my father sold me and my bros. nearly complete GI Joe collection for $20 (1981-1993), including two space shuttles. That's when my mother started to keep an eye on him (he hates most objects, and will throw most things away, so, $20 was better then we expected.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:13pm northguineahills:

Yeah, wife can't make it. Email puts a disadvantage to the online listeners, and even more of a lag for phone app users. I used to be able to win tix for me and/or my wife (since I moved) once a month, not since....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:14pm JakeGould:

@NGH: Welp, this is what I have learned about objects I hate… Sometimes other people want them and will pay good money for it.

Biggest regret as a kid was having a small but solid Mego action figure collection. iron Man, Spiderman, Shazam and all that. Still in box. I bought them from a neighborhood store for the $3-4 retail they went for at the time. Sold them to fellow kids for about the same price. Flash forward to nowadays, the same figures would be about $800 to $1000 a piece in the shape I kept them in.

Still, I prefer not to be a hoarder. So hey! I feel for your dad.
Avatar Fri. 7/27/18 11:19pm Old Eric the Hat:

Daniel! So glad when I can make it home from work in time to catch some of yr show. No phone right now, but I assure youth as soon as I have one again, yr cruise will be introduced the kitchen... We shall see how that goes over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:20pm northguineahills:

Of course, my dad would also throw out school reports/homework from elementary school through HS if I left it out on the kitchen table, so my mother and I commonly would dig through the trash looking for it the morning due. (oh, back when printing took forever).
  Fri. 7/27/18 11:20pm chresti:

We’ve got some kind of action figures around here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:20pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:20pm Daniel Blumin:

Coela!!! Old Eric!!! The gang's all hier! Herb, they are playing in Prospect Park on Fri the 10th...
Avatar Fri. 7/27/18 11:24pm Franco Twinkie:

Biggest regret from childhood involving a toy: I got this crazy car for Xmas called Road Hog. It had a rubber Porky Pig head jutting out of the metal body and it would drive around like someone smoking crack in a high speed pursuit. I left it in the produce section of Thriftymart, and that was the end of that. Boy did I cry!
  Fri. 7/27/18 11:31pm chresti:

We have some rubber porker heads around here too
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:32pm coelacanth∅:

i had a "spy set" and one day i heard my father pulling into the driveway and an image of my periscope laying in the driveway flashed in my mind. just as i started running i heard the crunch.
not the worst thing but i hadn't had it very long. i did cry.
he could've stopped or gone around it, but he was a dick.
  Fri. 7/27/18 11:32pm chresti:

I mean porky heads
Stupid robot phone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:35pm coelacanth∅:

biggest regret as an adult regarding childhood toys - painting or otherwise "customizing" the majority of my matchbox, hotwheels and impy cars.
  Fri. 7/27/18 11:39pm chresti:

I don’t know where any of the toys went.
We moved around so much I think they would get left behind
  Fri. 7/27/18 11:40pm chresti:

This sounds like Inuit
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/27/18 11:41pm coelacanth∅:

...not impy - corgi. corgis were the good ones. all doors and such opened and the headlights were little crystals. boy i loved those. i looked for them over the winter in my mother's attic but i think her downstairs neighbor, the landlord, stole them. about 100 of 'em.

Avatar Fri. 7/27/18 11:50pm Franco Twinkie:

Once when the t.v. broke, my dad brought home this metal checker board that when you flipped it over it was Chinese checkers. Long after I had left home I found it in the hall closet at my parent house. I threw it in the back of my Volkswagon and forgot about it until one day I was putting some backpacking equipment into the car and a I placed it on top of the car while I was tryng to fit every thing in. Well, I forgot it there and drove away. I was about two blocks from my house when I saw it fall off in the rear view mirror. I pulled over to pick it up from the street when a cement mixer came out of nowhere ran it over. It was compleatly ruined. so I just threw it in the gutter, got in my car and drove away.
