Kentucky Old Regular Baptists  Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah   Favoriting     1993    Lined-out hymnody is among America's oldest English language religious music, at least of the oral tradition. It is basically call and response music. Most parishioners, in the 18th and early 19th centuries especially, could not read. This provided a way to sing many hymns without having memorized the words, as the congregation could follow the leader. This selection is sung by members of the Indian Bottom Association, Old Regular Baptists, at Defeated Creek Church in Linefork, KY.    0:00:00 (Pop-up)

Donnacha Costello  That Empty Feeling   Favoriting Together  Self-Released  2015    from the artist: "Works from the original session tapes (for the 2001 CD, "Together Is The New Alone") were carefully remastered by Stephan Mathieu, who was one of my contemporaries at this early stage of my career and has a special understanding for this music. Alternative versions of certain works were also discovered and included. Particular works appeared on the original CD at the wrong pitch due to careless mastering. I never knew this until this year. Also, the heavy use of noise reduction in the mastering of the 2001 CD (Together Is The New Alone) suppressed many details in reverb trails and delay lines. These newly mastered versions retain the noise and dynamics of the original recordings and overall, the album now has a sonic character and open sound that breathes new life into a familiar favourite. This is how I've wanted you to hear this album for many years. I call this new version simply "Together." I hope you enjoy it. -Donnacha    2:10:32 (Pop-up)

I like subway and tunnel sounds! Miss them since I moved away... and there were more than a few times I was hearing them at this time of the morning. :D

There may have been a few pitchers of IPA involved in that, mind you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39am

Chris, IPA is very nice in ANY setting:)

That it is! Although I quite preferred the Cherry Tree out in Brooklyn or a Hoboken bar I've been told has closed in my absence. (Probably *because* of my absence, I'm sure.)

haven't heard blancmange in 30 years!
Avatar 6:46am
Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

I was going to say, I'd completely forgotten about them. I went through a huge Blancmange phase about 10 years ago.

IPA is nice, but for me nothing beats Guinness on tap (with a competent bartender, that is)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51am

yes...yes...yes...

Hi fred, Carol and everyone. Talking beer, I was very happy to see that our local brewery, here in Edinburgh, brought out an ale 'commemorating' Donald Trump's visit to Scotland. It was called 'The Child Catcher'. All profits going to a children's charity
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52am
fred:

I think it was a very timely move to play Blancmange as Wimbledon comes to an end
Avatar 6:52am
Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

Guinness on tap is nothing to sneeze at, either. Since IPA isn't huge over here, that's my go-to.

@Chris: How's the Guinness in Malaysia? I know it varies widely across the wold, for instance it's almost IPA high in alcohol in Cameroon
Avatar 7:03am
Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@Fred: You can either get the high-alcohol (Foreign Export, I think?) or the regular tap version here. But if you want to buy cans, it's only the Foreign Export. It's probably similar to the Cameroon version.

Happy Sunday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am
fred:

Here it is: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 7:05am
Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

Apparently the high-alcohol version is just because they used to have to export it overseas and not have it spoil. Nowadays they just brew it here so it's unnecessary, but why mess with success...
