Meghan, have you decided your wine pairing for the Sunday match? (If you're following the World Cup, that is.)
Avatar 12:22pm
Dave B:

HEY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Meghan:

Well, since France is in it, and it's a morning game, around brunch, a proper dry champagne might be wise!
Avatar 12:23pm
Dave B:

"Of the sparkling wines, the most famous is 'Perth Pink'. This is a bottle with a message in, and the message is BEWARE!. This is not a wine for drinking -- this is a wine for laying down and avoiding."
Avatar 12:25pm
Dave B:

"Another good fighting wine is 'Melbourne Old-and-Yellow', which is particularly heavy, and should be used only for hand-to-hand combat."
Avatar 12:26pm
βrian:

I guess I'll go for a Crémant de Bourgogne. Good, but not too pricey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Meghan:

hahahaha.... I don't think I'd follow Dave's recommendations!

and throw a little Creme de Casis, and make it a Kir Royale!
Avatar 12:32pm
βrian:

It's a noon game here. And if it's rather warm out, I may err toward a Bandol rosé.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Meghan:

roses have been hard to find this year since EVERYONE is now making them and they are in high demand. So to find a nice one, it has been tough
Avatar 12:35pm
Dave B:

"A lot of people in this country pooh-pooh Australian table wines. This is a pity, as many fine Australian wines appeal not only to the Australian palette, but also to the cognoscenti of Great Britain.

'Black stump Bordeaux' is rightly praised as a peppermint flavoured Burgundy, whilst a good 'Sydney Syrup' can rank with any of the world's best sugary wines.

'Chateau Bleu', too, has won many prizes; not least for its taste, and its lingering afterburn."
  12:36pm
elwyn:

I'm not much of a wine person even though there are good regions for it within my state. but South Australia has a much better reputation.
Avatar 12:36pm
βrian:

I've had some great Australian wines, but like Californians, they're usually too damn expensive.
Avatar 12:37pm
Dave B:

"Quite the reverse is true of 'Chateau Chunder', which is an Appalachian controle, specially grown for those keen on regurgitation -- a fine wine which really opens up the sluices at both ends.

Real emetic fans will also go for a 'Hobart Muddy', and a prize winning 'Cuiver Reserve Chateau Bottled Nuit San Wogga Wogga', which has a bouquet like an aborigine's armpit.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm

Hi, @Meghan, and thanks, @Dave B, for the larfs -- "really opens up the sluices at both ends" is a phrase that has been in consistent use in my life since my teens.

Just back from snooze/reading Dave Eggers ’ Sudan-drenched “What Is the What” from a thatched-bamboo-shaded perch about 3 meters from the Aegean Sea. Now back to our rented farmhouse to relax with a pre-prandial local beer (it is 8pm here) and this wonderful music. Hello, Meghan and all themeparkerinos!

Ikaria Island has beaches AND mountains within absurdly close proximity. The terrain rises dramatically from sea level to upwards of 3,200 feet. It’s harrowingly majestic.
