Haha, there's only a handful of us here, but we're awake during the times when most people aren't in NA to tune in, and typically as a people Armenians are 1.) very passionate about music and 2.) indulge any opportunity to post or comment online about anything.

ngh i have a few cds but my favorite is the first thing i got which is on vinyl. sometime in the 80s i leafed through the international section somewhere and the store had a postit saying something like "hauntingly beautiful". i never heard of him and knew basically nothing about armenia but the album was called "i will not be sad in this world" so i bought it. my first feeling when i played it was "this is the saddest music i've ever heard"!
they've since changed the name of the album.

Mount Hope NY is close to the tri-state junction of NY, NJ, & PA so that's why 90.1 (WMFU) covers northwestern NJ pretty well.

it may've taken me years to decide for certain whether the duduk (sp?) is a wind instrument or a bowed string instrument. the album cover had no picture of it and not much info.
then, maybe in the late 90s? it seemed like people started to know what i was talking about. i think his music was used in a movie.

@NGH/coelcanth0 on it, folks. Cheers, and yeah Gasparyan (spelling be damned as it's transliteration anyway) kinda bridged folk and classical, as the duduk is thought of as a folk instrument but the sophistication of some of his compositions lends more to classical.

One cool band to check out is Gata (YouTube search Gata Banda) who do old folk songs and write new folk songs but incorporate live looping and electronics to make some interesting stuff. There's not many like them, most bands here try to do pop stuff like metal or "indie" rock to become stars (haha) and be the next SOAD (yuck).
