Hey all, going to try to beat the 90 degree weather and bike now, Destination Watchung Reservation. Catch you later or in the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 8:57am Jeff Golick:

Heya, @doctorjazz. Take care, and take water!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:01am fred:

Good morning Jeff and listeners. I'm definitely not headed out today, way too hot
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:02am Jeff Golick:

Bienvenue, @fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:04am listener james from westwood:

Oh, there he is, with internet and everything!! Welcome, Jeff!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:05am listener james from westwood:

So far you sound fine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:05am listener james from westwood:

June was a fucked-up year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:06am fred:

Isn't odd and unusual kind of the plan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:09am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @listener james, and yes, June was! Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:09am Jeff Golick:

I suppose it is, @fred, but it comes in several varieties. The most recent version was not so delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:15am fred:

So the purge is over? Did you shed as little as my middle-aged attempts at losing weight usually yield?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:17am Jeff Golick:

Ha. The purge is ongoing. There are several hundred books in front of our old apt bldg now. If anyone is near Park Slope today, take a stroll down President St and grab a handful of tomes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:17am duke:

Howdy Jeff and D:Oers
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:20am Jeff Golick:

Hello there, @duke!
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:23am Dean:

Local public library Friends might appreciate the books. PLs thrive on book sale revenue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:24am tw2sheds:

Is it true there is a movement for President Street to change its name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:26am Jeff Golick:

Good (early!) morning, @Dean. A good suggestion, thanks. We're a bit too disorganized and harried (and hot) to find good homes for a lot of our stuff, though the nearby Housing Works will get a lot (www.housingworks.org)
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:27am Dean:

I can't buy books, for the same reason you have to unload them: no room. But when a classmate of mine, whose dad happens to be one of my favorite literary theorists since, oh, '79 or so, recently offered her father's post-retirement volumes to me, I had to jump on the chance. Took just a box or two, but am so pleased to have some of this stuff.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:27am rw:

Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:27am Jeff Golick:

@tw2sheds! Hello! I'm not aware of that movement...seems...far-fetched? The corner of President and Clinton Sts is not a happy place, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:28am Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @rw!
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:28am Dean:

That Housing Works looks terrific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:36am Jeff Golick:

Yes, a great org, @Dean. They have stores here and there, including a great bookstore in Soho that has wonderful events.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:39am rw:

JG, glad you made it into the new apartment and still had the time and energy to put together a radio show this morning. It's making for a nice start to a Sunday here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:40am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @rw! Wonderful to hear. Getting this together was a priority, if only to have something familiar to cling to.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:41am rw:

Is the year on that Hassell record correct? I thought it was much more recent. Maybe it was reissued?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:42am Jeff Golick:

You know, I though it was new this year, @rw, but on closer inspection, appears to have been originally released in 09. It's new to me, at any rate.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:43am Dean:

Hassell year is correct. That's when I found it.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:44am rw:

Looked it up. You and Dean, as usual, are right. Must have been reissued recently. It's a good one!
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:45am Dean:

But it looks like it was his last album until this year's Listening to Pictures (Pentimento Volume One). I'm surprised to learn that he hasn't put out a record in nine years.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:46am JtotheK:

Hello Jeff, hi everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:50am Jeff Golick:

Hi, good to see you, @JtotheK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:51am fred:

Nice show so far, and no glitches (yet)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:53am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @fred. But are you not familiar with the concept of the evil eye?
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:54am Dean:

And Debbie Harry, and George Sand, and me, it so happens.
  Sun. 7/1/18 9:55am Dean:

Many thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 9:58am fred:

Speaking of Southern roots, the recent Dust-To-Digital Voices of Mississippi box set is great
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:00am rw:

Happy Birthday Dean! Have a great one!
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:02am Dean:

Thanks, rw. Taking it easy today, nothing planned. Gotta stay home from work tomorrow to watch the 7YO. That's about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:02am Jeff Golick:

Is there a not-good Dust-to-Digital box, @fred? Thanks for the tip.
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:02am Andrew Waterloo:

Colin Fisher / Not wind the flag, if you want louder avant Canadian. Stretch Orchestra.
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:04am Dean:

Paul Plimley and Lisle Ellis, of course. NOW Orchestra (w/ whom Lee has performed), all those great Ambience Magnetique folks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:04am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Andrew Waterloo! Welcome, and happy Canada Day.
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:04am Andrew Waterloo:

Gord Gardina is another solid Canadian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:06am fred:

Nihilist Spasm Band. Maybe not jazz, but they're big into not being anything but themselves, and nice people, so very Canadian
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:14am Dean:

Heh. I'm a big fan of Klaxon Gueule, too.
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:24am Dean:

Queen Mab
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:25am Doug Schulkind:

We had friends who lived at the corner of President and Clinton. They ended up moving to Washington, DC. Go figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:26am doctorjazz:

OK, did the 1st half of the ride without music (start out my wife) now for the hilly part of Watchung Reservation, plugged into the show for the rest of the ride (assuming that I make it...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:27am Jeff Golick:

@Doug!

@doc: go easy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:29am doctorjazz:

No problem (my regular ride) ... Off I go, nice sounds to start with...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:34am fred:

Not related to anything, but I spent most of Friday at the Paris art school, and their newish dance department is getting really good, and it's only in its second year. And they had live bands back, though I missed most of that because of the dance performances. These open-doors days are a much needed brain cleansing for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:40am Jeff Golick:

Sounds lovely, @fred.
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:42am rw:

doc: don't listen to Jeff. Go hard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:44am coelacanth∅:

greetings Jeff and OUTies
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:45am Jeff Golick:

@coelacanth∅, helloooo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:45am coelacanth∅:

Jeff are you playing powderfinger? (if not then it's not your show being delivered)
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:46am Dean:

Canadian, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:46am fred:

I guess that set had to feature either Neil or Shatner. Glad you picked the former
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:46am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that's me. Weird glitch at the start of the tune (thanks, @fred).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:46am coelacanth∅:

haha okay! i wasn't sure because the beginning was cut off.
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:49am rw:

doc, I know you're riding and probably not checking the comments but I just looked up Watchung Reservation. It looks beautiful!
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:49am Dean:

Reminds me that I learned yesterday of a forthcoming release on Naxos of choral folk music, including a rendition of a Gordon Lightfoot tune. Really sweet record: https://naxosdirect.com/items/and-so-it-goes-songs-of-folk-and-lore-455485
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:50am fred:

@Jeff: as if you needed my help for glitching
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:50am Jeff Golick:

Mm-hmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:51am coelacanth∅:

watchung reservation is beautiful, though it's long and narrow, so one's never far from traffic -and you can hear it. (maybe not everywhere)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:56am fred:

Constellation runs ads in n+1, and for once I don't mind seeing an ad
  Sun. 7/1/18 10:56am Dean:

You know, in three days it'll be USA's version of Canada Day. An all-Sousa show, perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:57am coelacanth∅:

when i lived in n plainfield (20 years ago) and worked in summit my commute was through the reservation on a mountain bike, through the woods. it's excellent biking - widely varied terrain. ups downs very fun. it was illegal but i was told that was just the lobbying work of the horse stables nearby, who it wasn't illegal for, so i ignored that.
then i learned about the thin topsoil and serious erosion problem and i decided to stop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 10:59am coelacanth∅:

(i'm assuming doc jazz is on the roads)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:02am Hams:

..speaking of rooms/moving earlier, i am looking for a spot august 1! moving from athens, ga. if someone knows of anything, perhaps let me know. sorry if i'm soliciting.. great show, jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:04am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Hams! Glad you said hello. Are you looking to stay in Athens?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:05am coelacanth∅:

Hams i have an extra bedroom. i'm about 90 mi north of wfmu, jersey city (90.1). $550/mo + 1/2 electric
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:09am Hams:

no, leaving athens. driving up to new york tomorrow for a job and then maybe trying to lock something down while i'm in town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:15am Hams:

hey, coelacantho, thanks. i may be able to do something outside of new york city. hmm.. whereabouts in jersey? or that would be getting into new york state, huh? $550 does sound nice..
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:17am Hams:

if you wanted to e-mail me, feel free. with pictures & such. location. we can talk. samuel*****13@gmail.com.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:22am Hams:

or could contact me through my wfmu profile; that could work too. didn't think of that.. now my e-mail is out there in all of wfmu radioland..
  Sun. 7/1/18 11:27am Dean:

Ain't it Staton?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:27am fred:

@Hams: Don't worry, if anything outing yourself as a station listener probably puts you into a "don't waste your time calling" industry list. You're more likely to use that call in a project of yours than buy something from them
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:31am Jeff Golick:

I'll redact it, @Hams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:31am Jeff Golick:

Oh it is Staton. Damn. Thanks, @Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:32am Jeff Golick:

Here's the Lewis Porter article on this rediscovered Coltrane: wbgo.org...
  Sun. 7/1/18 11:33am Dean:

That Porter article is fascinating. I'd really love to know who else was in the studio.
  Sun. 7/1/18 11:34am rw:

Whew. Got a good chunk of computer work done this morning. I don't know what I'd do without this radio station. It's really tough for me to sit at a desk without it.

Early '60s Coltrane is better than anything.
  Sun. 7/1/18 11:37am Dean:

Can't see the comments to the Porter piece, but yesterday somebody speculated it could have been Cal Massey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:38am coelacanth∅:

Hams i have a posting on craigslist; i'll send you the link. it's geared toward the general public, with stipulations about music that i may not need to say to you - as a wfmu listener!
it's an old run-down house but the room doesn't suffer for it. (my room sometimes does) there's a local bus stop 3 minute walk from here that goes to the trailways bus station in new palts, which goes to the city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:40am Jeff Golick:

@rw: Yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:40am coelacanth∅:

...okay i was in the kitchen for all that. i went through the wfmu profile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:44am coelacanth∅:

i've never not liked JC, but my main Trane is when he was steppin' out
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:45am fred:

I like this
  Sun. 7/1/18 11:45am Listener Gregory:

I really cannot hear this as coming from 1975. It seems a possible 2018 release.
Have been listening on and off this morning. Will catch up the entire show on archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:47am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Listener Gregory. These fellows were definitely ahead of the curve.
  Sun. 7/1/18 11:53am JtotheK:

Enjoyed the show - thanks for spinning the unreleased ‘Trane! Cheers everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:54am doctorjazz:

Made it home, not bad, but nice to be back in Air Conditioning. DO definitely made it go more smoothly. Have to get the new/old Trane. The birthday set helped on the hills!
Great Week, all, catch up on the comments in a few. Congrats on completing the move, Jeff.
Adios!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:55am Jeff Golick:

Bye, @JtotheK! Thanks so much for being here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 11:55am Jeff Golick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 7/1/18 12:00pm doctorjazz:
