Anybody here tonight?

I am! Hello!

Hi Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:07pm Funky16Corners:

Hi Erica!
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:08pm Erica:

I take it this week's show is either jazz or summer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:08pm coelacanth∅:

hey Larry and Erica and invisible listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:08pm Funky16Corners:

Summer, with some jazz, but also lots of other groovy things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:09pm Funky16Corners:

Hey C! I'm broadcasting into multiple dimensions/realities, so some of the listeners can't comment. Their tentacles can't hit the keys properly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:10pm coelacanth∅:

understandable...but boy does the sound travel down here
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:10pm chresti:

How many different versions of summertime can there be?
There never will be enough
Hello!
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:10pm Erica:

Haha! Nobody is invisible here, just because you can't see or hear us in person (we can hear Larry though).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:11pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Chresti! There are a few in tonight's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:12pm coelacanth∅:

hello chresti! i saw your greeting as i was leaving the room
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:13pm Erica:

"Summer Samba (So Nice)". I Love that song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:13pm Funky16Corners:

Me too, esp the instrumental
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:14pm chresti:

Hello! I heartily laughed when I saw your last comment about broadcasting on multiple fronts
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:14pm Erica:

This is my favorite version, however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:16pm coelacanth∅:

chresti i had a craving a week or 2 ago and had to hear a "traditional" version of summertime. i did, then i listened to Sam Cooke's and the zombies' then later ran into a friend who i mostly talk (for hours) about music with, who plays jazz (and other stuff) and is a bit older than i and was shocked when he told me he never cared for that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:17pm chresti:

"Summertime" is my favorite part of summer
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:18pm northguineahills:

cool, larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:18pm coelacanth∅:

i'm sure i listened to summertime a few times last winter. (by the zombies & by big brother and the holding company)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:21pm Funky16Corners:

Hey NGH!
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:21pm Jeff Ash:

Greetings, Larry! Probably won't be here for the whole show. Gotta get up at 4 a.m. to take Janet to the airport.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:21pm Erica:

Hi Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:21pm Funky16Corners:

It's cool because 'Summertime' really lends itself to multiple stylistic interpretations
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:22pm chresti:

It helps lower the temperature when it's severe heat weather time
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:22pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Jeff! Hang on until the beginning of the third set. I have something special for you
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:22pm Erica:

The first version of "Summertime" I heard was a live version done by George Benson.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:23pm Jeff Ash:

Will do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:23pm Funky16Corners:

George Benson was one of the first concerts I ever saw. Right around when he had the hit with On Broadway
  Wed. 6/20/18 10:29pm bigplanetnoise:

Sounding just damn perfect for a night like tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:29pm Funky16Corners:

Hey bigplanetnoise! Bob?

Thanks for stopping by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:33pm coelacanth∅:

my parents had a soundtrack record of porgy & bess so whoever that is is the first summertime i heard; but the first that i was aware of is b.b.&t.h.c (Janis Joplin) but that's definitely not my favorite.
  Wed. 6/20/18 10:33pm bigplanetnoise:

Happy to be here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:35pm chresti:

My parents had Billy Holiday"s version
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:37pm Jeff Ash:

Well played! Thanks!

Monkees. :)
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:37pm Erica:

Also happy birthday early to you Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:38pm Funky16Corners:

Oneof my all time favorite records. I have to restrain myself from playing it on a loop
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

chresti i have Billie's version but that wasn't my parents thing i guess
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:39pm Jeff Ash:

Thanks, Erica!
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:40pm Jeff Ash:

Janet heard a bit of "Pleasant Valley Sunday" when she saw "Beautiful," the Carole King musical, on Broadway last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:41pm Funky16Corners:

I wondered if they had it in the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:41pm Funky16Corners:

Carole's demo version is wonderful
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:43pm Jeff Ash:

Janet said they didn't play the whole thing, but enough to get a sense of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:44pm Parq:

Local performing collective the Losers Lounge did a tribute to Carole King a couple of years back, in which Mike Fornatele (he of Joe Belock's inner circle) tore the roof off of Pleasant Valley Sunday.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:44pm Jeff Ash:

This Al Wilson LP was one of my earliest finds, and I love this version of "Summer Rain."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:44pm doctorjazz:

Hi all!
Great version of Summer Rain!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:44pm Funky16Corners:

Back in the day my band did a live version of it that sounded like Husker Du. I always wished we'd recorded it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:45pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:45pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - Yes - great album. Really nice crossover between soul and pop
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:46pm Funky16Corners:

@10:44 I was talking about PLeasant Valley Sunday, thankfully not a raved up Summer Rain
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:46pm Parq:

The "Live in the Rockies" verse always makes me think about how they probably opened a restaurant, became economic powerhouses in the community, bought up some real estate and turned Republican when Reagan ran against Carter.
  Wed. 6/20/18 10:47pm bigplanetnoise:

Love love this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:47pm Funky16Corners:

I wonder how many hippie turned entrepreneur communities there were like that all over the country
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 10:58pm Erica:

This song sure does open "The Door Into Summer".
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 10:58pm Funky16Corners:

It certainly does. It's been running through my head all day.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:04pm Jeff Ash:

This song. Hanging out at the pool. Hearing the single version every 3 hours on the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:04pm Funky16Corners:

When we say freeform, we are NOT FUCKING AROUND.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:05pm Funky16Corners:

Sirius played a shortened version the other day and I was in high dudgeon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:05pm doctorjazz:

Man, in the 70's, I would give anything after a while NOT to hear Frampton again. 40 years distance helps a bit, though.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:06pm Erica:

Frampton Comes Alive is Peter's most popular album for some reason. Radio stations always play "Show Me The Way" and "Baby I Love Your Way".
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:06pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I was discussing this one the other day on Facebook and the reactions ran the gamut
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:06pm Jeff Ash:

I am all in for that freeform!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:07pm Funky16Corners:

Frampton Comes Alive was YUUUUGGGGEEEE. At oeast forty bazillion copies, of which I've owned a few
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:07pm Dean:

Only stadium concert I ever attended was Gentle Giant, Gary Wright, Frampton, Yes. Never ever ever again. Among the three loudest, too. But I have no strong objections to this album.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:07pm Franco Twinkie:

That opening figure is one for the ages...and the aged.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:08pm Dean:

My point being that I do not like stadium concerts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:08pm Funky16Corners:

A few years ago he did a 40th anniversary tour and you could get MP3 downloads of any of the shows, so I got the one from Red Bank, NJ
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:08pm Erica:

It seems like everyone back then owned a copy of that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:08pm Funky16Corners:

@Dean, one of the worst shows i ever experienced was in a stadium (Rolling Stones) and one of the best (Grateful Dead with Bruce Hornsby)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:09pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I thin that FCA was like Thriller a few years later. The momentum made people buy copies that would normally had nothing to do with FRampton
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:09pm chresti:

76 was a big year for stadiums
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:10pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, big package tours. Go, get wasted, get sunburned and lose your hearing
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:10pm Dean:

I routinely claim that I've attended every Dead show ever. I stick to that claim. Hornsby I don't like, but of the 48,396 shows I attended, give or take, some of his were among the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:11pm Funky16Corners:

My first Dead show as with Hornsby and they were amazing. Even played Black Peter, much to my amazement
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:11pm Funky16Corners:

Great China/Rider too
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:12pm Dean:

I of course remember those.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:12pm Funky16Corners:

It was in Giants Stadium, I was tripping balls and it had to be 100 degrees
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:12pm coelacanth∅:

i never had (nor wanted) Framton comes alive when it was all the rage. i did at some point obtain a copy in a box of records, but i've never listened to it. almost every song on it was played to death so i know the album pretty well, for having never heard it in it's entirety.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:13pm Funky16Corners:

Osmosis
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:14pm Franco Twinkie:

Pig Pen - Hard to Handle - 8/6/1971 - Hollywood Palladium. Top that motherfuckers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:14pm doctorjazz:

RFK, 1973 (yeah, I'm old) with The Allman Brothers as the first set, then the Dead. I only went to about 1,000 Dead shows, that one was hard to top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:14pm Funky16Corners:

Get ready for the best moment in all of 70s rock
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:16pm chresti:

A stadium show I’ve been to that I can remember was Alice cooper. Now it’s the Santa Monica pier. Maybe
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:16pm Erica:

Everyone's talking about their stadium concert experiences tonight. Sadly I don't have any (yet).
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:17pm bigplanetnoise:

In the mid-70’s, a few and I used to see shows at the Palace Theater in Albany. We’d often go even if we didn’t know much about the act. We saw Frampton a couple months before the live album came out, not know much about him other than his time with Humble Pie. Half-full house at best. The show was jawdroppingly great. We told everyone how incredible it was. Then, the album dropped and all hell broke loose.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:17pm Dean:

@Erica: Make one up.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:18pm Erica:

I cannot tell a lie Dean.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:18pm bigplanetnoise:

Apologies for the crappy misspellings. I’m typing on my phone with one hand, while entertaining a golden retriever with the other.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:19pm Dean:

Peter Frampton "was" excellent?

I understand, @Erica.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:19pm chresti:

Nowadays it’s like 500 dollars to go to a stadium show
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:20pm coelacanth∅:

my first "concert" was the 'dead at madison square garden. i don't remember the music but i know they played for 4 hours and my friends said they're getting down to the floor. then we got separated and i figured i'd find them on the floor. i found that on the floor i couldn't see the band at all and after the show my friends (who were far more experienced than i with concert-going) said they couldn't get down to the floor.
- i do remember a guy happily tumbling down the stairs in slow-motion.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:21pm chresti:

He’s got skills for sure
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:22pm Erica:

I wonder why Peter Frampton is/was labeled as a Teen Idol though. He's more or a soft rock musician myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:22pm Funky16Corners:

@BPN - I envy you having seen him before he broke wide. My older cousin saw him in PLattsburgh in 1975 and loved it
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:23pm chresti:

I know him from Tommy re: Frampton
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:23pm Dean:

My first concert was Yes, '75, Long Beach. But my really first concert was Zubin Mehta, LA Phil, c.'73, at the Whittier High School auditorium.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:23pm Jeff Ash:

Thanks again, Larry! I'm out. Up early!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:23pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - He was a movie star good looking rock star. He was voted the Face of 1968 when he was in the Herd
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:23pm Funky16Corners:

Nite Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:24pm Funky16Corners:

My first rock concert was CSN at the last night of the MUSE/No Nukes concerts at MSG
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:24pm Erica:

I wouldn't have known that. I wasn't born yet. Haha! I come here to listen, read and learn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:25pm coelacanth∅:

i think my only other stadium show was the who at the spectrum. i was pissed off because it was so loud it hurt.
i have no desire to see a band from such a distance - or close-up with hundreds of people pushing up against my back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:26pm Funky16Corners:

I saw Utopia at the Spectrum in 1980. Road to Utopia tour. They were great!
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:26pm Franco Twinkie:

Yes, many '70's bands certain people get all sniffy and dismiss now, could really make your hair come loose when you heard them live.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:27pm chresti:

My first was the Allman Bros and, I think, Johnny Winter
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:27pm Funky16Corners:

I wish I'd seen that. Never got to see the Allmans
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:27pm doctorjazz:

First concert (I think...)
The Band New Year's Eve At The Academy of Music, with Bob Dylan coming out for the encores.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:28pm Funky16Corners:

Wow! I saw the band twice after Robbie took a powder. They were great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:28pm Funky16Corners:

Unintentional pun about Robbie and powder...

i did see utopia on "the pier" in nyc (i couldn't tell you which pier) with rundgren starting off with an acoustic set. i think it cost $5.00.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:29pm Parq:

Frampton was considered a teen idol because he was sold that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:30pm doctorjazz:

Gotta crash, night all, fun hanging, catch up tomorrow in the archive. Thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:30pm Funky16Corners:

One of the funniest concerts I ever saw was on the Pier. It was Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble opening (not funny, great) and then an all star band with Ian Hunter on piano doing a drunken, shambolic version of Sweet Soul Music, followed by a drunken and angry Aerosmith
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:30pm Franco Twinkie:

Nite Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:32pm doctorjazz:

Got to see Stevie Ray Vaughn once, at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival, he was in his element there.
OK, really going to go...:) Long day tomorrow.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:32pm Dean:

Most wacky concert was probably Johnny Thunders at the Whisky in Hollywood, pretty much cooked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:32pm Funky16Corners:

@Parq - I saw the Who at Shea Stadium with David Johansen and the Clash. The Who were fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:32pm coelacanth∅:

yeah if i could go back in time for any 5 concerts the Allman Brothers (with both brothers) would be one of 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:32pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, one of those Fillmore shows
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:33pm Dean:

Caught Johansen in Orange County at Cuckoo's Nest, post-Dolls. One of the best shows ever,
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:33pm Parq:

I saw a few Pier shows (double bill of Black Uhuru and King Sunni Ade was a good one), but I was a big fan of its predecessor in the Park at what was then known as the Wollman skating rink. So many good shows, including the one in which Utopia recorded the take of "Wheel of Karma" that made it onto the live album.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:33pm Erica:

Summer Wine sounds like a James Bond theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:34pm coelacanth∅:

Parq same tour as i at the spectrum. Jones was new. no clash though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:34pm Funky16Corners:

It has a James Bond theme quote in it
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:34pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, Dean. Good call. Can you and I discuss Mexican food in San Francisco now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:35pm Parq:

Never saw Johansen as Johansen, but I caught one of his early Buster shows at Trampps, and saw him the summer of "Hot Hot Hot" at an outdoor show at Sailor's Snug Harbor in (yes!) Staten Island.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:35pm coelacanth∅:

wow Parq, 1973? i was at that King Sunny Ade show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:36pm northguineahills:

Gonna drop off soon, thanks Larry!
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:36pm Dean:

Nope, Franco, because I know nothing about Mexican food in San Francisco (which pretends to have Mexican food). But I can talk about Mexican food in the greater metropolitan Los Angeles area!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:36pm Funky16Corners:

Nite NGH!

Coal, I wish. The summer fest was still at Wolman Rink in '73. This was in the late 80s. But I did also see Ade at the Ritz in, oh, I dunno, 84 or so.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:37pm Erica:

Mungo Jerry's version is better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:38pm coelacanth∅:

haha sorry! i mean '83! i was pretty darn young in 1973.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:38pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Mungo Jerry was the original. This is a cover. But I love the Peddlers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:38pm Parq:

So I'm guessing the point of this Peddlers cover was so that everyone could finally find out what the lyrics were?
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:39pm Erica:

I know it's a cover Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:39pm Funky16Corners:

@Parq - Right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:40pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I'm sorry, I just made a point of mentioning it since the Peddlers are pretty obscure
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:40pm Erica:

I meant that the Mungo Jerry version was better. I didn't say which came out first.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:40pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, Dean, I got the impression you were a transplant. I swing both ways.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:41pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Gotcha
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:41pm Erica:

Just my opinion. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:41pm Funky16Corners:

No need to apologize.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:42pm chresti:

Mungo Jerry’s version is a favorite

And Shaggy’s version ...
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:42pm Erica:

Okay.

puedo hablar de autentica comida mexicana, la hago....
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:44pm Dean:

Off to bed, just like that night in '71 when the Moody Blues invited me to a show featuring the fledgling Jethro Tull, which I couldn't attend because I had to go to a Dead show, of course, but man I was so tired, and still I couldn't miss the Dead show.

@Franco: I'm a transplant--if I understand what that means--from many years in LA to "the Bay Area," whatever that means. I think I prefer Mexican food that emanates closer to Mexico. However, if you're in Concord up in these parts, do dine at Mercado del Sol. Yummy Mexican food!

In one of the two Summertime vids I've seen, Ray Dorsett has got to be the ugliest guy I've ever seen in a rock video. He looks like someone playing Bottom in a production of "Midsummer Night's Dream" (like how I got the show theme in there?) *after* the transformation.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:46pm chresti:

I was 12 when I first heard it (in the summertime)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:46pm Funky16Corners:

Nite Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:46pm Funky16Corners:

Ray Dorsett and Rob Tyner of the MC5 look like two halves of a two-headed rock and roll beast
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:48pm Parq:

Nice choice!
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:48pm Dean:

G'night. Speaking of Detroit, check out upcoming shows by The Dogs, an underrated trio from the city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:48pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks! I think we may run a few minutes late tonight.

Hearing mungo Jerry’s song on the radio made me sit up and take notice
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:49pm Funky16Corners:

They did some other cool stuff, including a cool Jacques Dutronc cover I'll have to dig out.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:51pm Erica:

Summer Breeze is a very popular song to cover for some reason.
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:51pm Franco Twinkie:

I've always wanted to get off the 580 in Concord. Now I have a reason. Isn't Concord the last stop on the BART? Maybe a day trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I only know of the Seals and Crofts version and this one. Who else does it?
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:53pm still b/p:

Never heard this version, but the Brothers’ voices and guitar and this tune together are still injecting me with some flashbackstalgia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:54pm Funky16Corners:

The Isleys did so many amazing covers of 70s AM Gold
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:55pm Funky16Corners:

Their version of Fire and Rain is epic
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Oh Yeah, The Dogs! Saw them in 1977 opening for the Talking Heads at The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach.
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:56pm rw:

Hey! Checking in to say hello and thanks for the Summer tunes!

Hey rw!

Nite Parq! This is the last one. Tip your bartenders!

I think of health food stores when I hear summer breeze
  Wed. 6/20/18 11:57pm bigplanetnoise:

A friend was extra scornful of what she regarded as a band’s failed rendition/interpretation of Summertime the other night at a local blues festival. “Why...why would you do that...?”
Avatar Wed. 6/20/18 11:59pm Erica:

There are many versions of Summer Breeze Larry. But you should check out the version by the Australian band Stylus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:59pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Erica, I will seek that out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 6/20/18 11:59pm Funky16Corners:

@SBP - What was it like?
Avatar Thu. 6/21/18 12:00am Erica:

Sorry I took so long to answer Larry as there was a beetle on my carpet and had trouble getting it out of my house.
Avatar Thu. 6/21/18 12:00am Franco Twinkie:

Top notch, Larry! Thanks for opening the door to summer on the last day of Spring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 12:01am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Larry! good night y'all
  Thu. 6/21/18 12:02am still b/p:

Too showy... working too hard to be soulful raw shouty, without genuine feel or suitable sense in singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 12:03am Funky16Corners:

@Erica - No problem. Get that beetle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 12:04am Funky16Corners:

Thank Franco! Thanks C!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 12:04am Funky16Corners:

@SBP - Joplinesque??
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 12:05am Funky16Corners:

And I don't say that to damn Janis, but to recognize the influence that her version had on a generation of less talented vocalists
Avatar Thu. 6/21/18 12:05am Erica:

Well this show was interesting.
  Thu. 6/21/18 12:05am still b/p:

Yeah...ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 12:05am Funky16Corners:

Goodnight!
