Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 9:25am Andrew Waterloo:

we appear to be heaving technical difficulties
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 9:27am doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 9:50am doctorjazz:

Nice Tatum, he doesn't get played that much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 9:59am Andrew Waterloo:

Just saw Dave Burrell with William Parker. Amazing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:00am Jeff Golick:

Oh, jealous, @Andrew. He just played the Vision Fest as guest of honor, not ten blocks from my home, and I missed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:01am Andrew Waterloo:

He was supposed to play here a year ago but had emergency surgery instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:03am doctorjazz:

Sad I missed Dave Burell as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:04am Jeff Golick:

I was looking forward to catching Burrell at the Stone many moons ago, but a snow storm kept him from making it. I think Craig Taborn may have sat in...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:07am doctorjazz:

Going to hear Nels Cline perform "Lovers" in Philly next week, should be fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:07am Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah! What's the venue?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:11am doctorjazz:

Union Transfer, put on by Ars Nova
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:13am Jeff Golick:

Nice. Ars Nova just does amazing work -- which I can only follow and admire from afar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:18am Andrew Waterloo:

if you're in upstate consider this quirky Hamilton, Ontario jazz festival zulapresents.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:21am doctorjazz:

Get out there for a few shows (not much worse than schlepping/parking in Manhattan from here or Staten Island)...
Philly Inquirer had a nice article on the show, which I can't seem to cut/paste on my wife's ipad...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:21am Jeff Golick:

Wow, looks great, @Andrew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:24am doctorjazz:

That does look like a great festival...lets of Eugene Chadbourne on the schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:26am Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, you get a lot of off the cuff improv sessions. Small intimate crowds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:27am Sem:

Late to the show but all ears now. Good morning, Jeff, and hello, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:29am doctorjazz:

www.google.com...
I think that may work
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:30am Jeff Golick:

@Sem! I was late, too! Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:31am Andrew Waterloo:

It's amazing that Wilco has too very different genre defining members
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:35am doctorjazz:

Nels is just all over the place...
  Sun. 5/27/18 10:44am Doug Schulkind:

Jeffonious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:46am Andrew Waterloo:

wow... the Artifacts trio playing in Hamilton is basically Nicole Michell trio.
  Sun. 5/27/18 10:46am Listener Gregory:

Late arrival (actually, I checked in at 9:10, but the show hadn't started yet). Is it all piano all the time today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:48am Jeff Golick:

@Doug! @Listener Gregory!

It might be, @LG...we'll see!
  Sun. 5/27/18 10:48am Listener Gregory:

I did catch "Makin' Whoopie," which is one of the greatest performances of all time, in my humble opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:48am Jeff Golick:

(@LG: I was truly the late arrival today. Apologies!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:53am Andrew Waterloo:

I did get my chores done
  Sun. 5/27/18 10:56am Listener Gregory:

The connection between Takase's song and Fats Waller is not evident to me, though it was perfectly nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:57am Jeff Golick:

@Andrew: well, that's something! The "chores" we need to do here to prep for this upcoming move leave me nearly paralyzed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 10:57am Jeff Golick:

@LG: that was an Takase original, on a album of mostly Waller tunes. "Inspired by," I guess. (And agreed re "Whoopie.")
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:05am Listener Gregory:

Idea for future show: Only versions of "Yacht Club Swing"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:08am Jeff Golick:

Hmmm...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:11am doctorjazz:

Aretha, niiiiiiiice!!!!!!!!
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:30am Listener Gregory:

Dylan: Nice pick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:31am Sem:

ditto^
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:34am Jeff Golick:

Oh, glad you enjoyed. That Self-Portrait revisited has a lot to recommend it.
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:37am Listener Gregory:

I listened to the Self Portrait bootleg package recently and realized that the out-takes were really good, and the album not very good in general. In my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:38am Jeff Golick:

Agreed, 100.
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:41am Dean:

My favorite banner in town appears twice a year: HUGE LIBRARY BOOK SALE. I love the variety of meanings that emerge depending on the noun qualified as huge. Same for Another Self-Portrait, if you ignore the hyphen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:43am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Dean!
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:46am rw:

Morning! I love huge library books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:47am Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @rw! I, too, love big books. I cannot lie.
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:48am Dean:

Sir Index-a-Lot
  Sun. 5/27/18 11:58am Dean:

Listening to Tatiana Nikolayeva's second traversal of Shostakovich's 24 Preludes & Fugues (dedicated to her by the composer), I read a review of Jarrett's recording. According to the reviewer, Jarrett is one of the few pianists to respect Shostakovich's metronome markings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 11:59am Sem:

Encore! Encore! Thanks, this is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:01pm Jeff Golick:

Jarrett is all about respect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:01pm Jeff Golick:

@Sem: my absolute pleasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:04pm coelacanth∅:

it's unusual for me to listen to radio by 9am and especially on sunday; of course today i tuned in by 9. i really disliked what i heard and left! (def not Rosco Mitchell) but i've been back sporadically for most of the past 2 hours and i'm glad for the make-up time now.
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:04pm Listener Gregory:

@Dean, I have the Jarrett recording of the Shostakovich. I do not know enough to evaluate it, but it struck me as a tremendous piece of music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:06pm coelacanth∅:

(...and, hi Jeff)
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:07pm Dean:

@LG: The Nikolayeva on Hyperion is glorious, which probably goes without saying, but I need to add the Jarrett to the collection. His recital of Handel suites is quite beautiful. Given Shostakovich was emulating Bach, and Jarrett is a huge proponent of Bach, I'm not surprised that KJ's 24P&F is impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:09pm Jeff Golick:

Hiya, @coel! Glad you made it back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:16pm doctorjazz:

Nice to be going past noon-heading out to DC soon, family Bar Mitzva (not looking forward to the drive back tomorrow), Nice weekend all.
Thanks for all the ivory tickling, Jeff, great show!
Good look on the apartment/move!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @doc! Doug pays me for three hours, so three hours I go. Safe travels.
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:30pm rw:

Overtime fits well with my schedule. Bowie sounds better to me now than when I was buying his records in the '70s. I'm not sure exactly why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:31pm doctorjazz:

Tough when you gotta punch the clock... :)
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:32pm rw:

And when I say the overtime fits well with my schedule, I mean to say thanks Jeff for going overtime!
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:36pm Dean:

The show Taylor almost didn't make...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:38pm Jeff Golick:

Happy to, @rw!

@Dean: what's the story, again?
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:41pm Dean:

He had trouble at the Canadian border. Program was to be Marilyn Crispell opening for CT. When it looked like CT wasn't going to make it, John Oswald and Paul Plimley opened, followed by MC. CT then arrived and went on, hence the long Complicité program. It happened to be the Victo show for which a group of us purchased a ticket for the retired nurse who ran the B&B where we stayed in town. She really enjoyed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:44pm Jeff Golick:

Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:45pm Sem:

I wonder if any of the Clowns are still wearing their big shoes and walking around these days.
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:51pm Listener Gregory:

Professor Longhair is the Cecil Taylor of New Orleans.
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:51pm Listener Gregory:

I wonder if that moniker will catch on... None of my other suggestions have.
  Sun. 5/27/18 12:54pm Listener Gregory:

Thanks, Jeff. You are the Professor Longhair of DJs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:54pm coelacanth∅:

aladdin sane may've been my first exposure to "dissonance" in music...maybe after "love you too" by the beatles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:55pm Jeff Golick:

Aw, thanks, @Listener Gregory! Take care, @Sem, @Dean, @LG, @coel, and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:55pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jeff! take care y'all
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 5/27/18 12:57pm coelacanth∅:

(actually "i want to tell you" -not "love you too".
...bye!)
