I think cellphones are largely to blame for the bad behavior. I am reluctant to see a film in a big multiplex nowadays because of people on their phones. Also, people talk on the phone in libraries now too which should be sanctuaries of silence.

I think the bad behavior at concerts might also be due to people seeing bands because it's a "cool scene" to be seen in as opposed to going to see the music. We saw Sharon Van Etten at the Bowery Ballroom a few years back and the people in the balcony were terrible and they supposedly know her!

i saw "woody sez: the life & music of woody guthrie" at the irish reportory theater, and it was vg. they had a small exhibit and there was a photo of his bound journals with all those lyrics. i kinda assumed they were on loose pieces of paper. i wonder why he didn't use an ipad.
