Hi everyone. It's weird how "One Night In Bangkok" takes me back to my junior high school. Like, I'm back IN the school. The hallways, the dances, etc. It's so much more than just the memories associated with other songs. I guess because I've not really listened to that song that much apart from in that specific period of time/context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
listener james from westwood:

In the pre-search days, a friend asked me who the hell did this song. It took 2 months, but while I was in L.A., it came on the radio, and I frantically looked up the station's phone # in the hotel room phonebook (yes) and got the DJ, then called at god-knows-what-rates back to my friend in NJ to tell her. Elaborate!! Now that's like 10 seconds stem to stern by way of smartphone research and texting the answer.

Emma Tricca has an updated Karen Dalton vibe, me likes!

Coming Tuesday one of my former bosses is retiring. He's a music lover, just like I am, so I thought the first album of Chavela Vargas from 1961 would be a good farewell present, don't you think?

Jocelyn:

Rob, that would be a great gift!

Guido from Cologne:

Emma Tricca can be considered somewhat of a freak folk revival veteran. This post-punk-folk-something is a completely new approach.

Passaic River Blues:

@Guido: it's an approach I fully endorse.

I mean: Sheila learned me about Natalia Lafourcade, and when you find out that one of her most beautiful covers La Lllorena originally is from Chavela Vargas...

Sorry, Sheila and Adrian, but I didn't manage to get the RSD-release by Sevdaliza in NL for you. Hopefully you found other ways.

@ Rob, that is very kind of you to have tried. Adrian managed to get it after RSD, but not after queuing for HOURS on the day!!
Avatar 5:51pm
Rob Kopp:

@ Contessa: The least I could do was try. My personal goal was the single by Chris Bell (I am the cosmos / You and your sister), but it wasn't delivered in the Netherlands anywhere. But I managed to get it on Ebay.

There was a sweet shop in Chicago back in the 70s run by red-headed triplets. I don’t recall the name.
