This is Balinese gamelan, which is quite different from Degung stuff that the gamelan I'm in plays. Although the Slendro stuff we do is kind of like the texture here.

I should have known Mary Wing likes gamelan. It’s all bells!

Hey - anybody know if there's a 128AAC superstream thangy for the Drummer channel?

@WH, no no, earlier she said it was just 66% more.

I just ran over to Irwin's house, then ran away from Breckman back to here. And Mary's still spinnin'!

Speaking of Fabio, someone recently claimed there's fewer awesomely avant-ish programs like Fabio's show in the last 10 years or so. I don't think so. Do youse guys think so? For comparison: wfmu.org...

You know, Ike, I was thinking about that comment (I think it was from Fred), and perhaps he is skewing the Wake and Bake show into the mix. Wake and Bake did "replace" the 5 stream shows which were there while JM in the AM was on, especially for our foreign listeners...

@Ike, Looks from that old schedule that many of my faves (including Madame Wing) migrated over to the Drummer Stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
Parq:

Mary, it's a pleasant surprise to catch this show, since I missed your regularly scheduled one earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
ɨkɛ:

True. Another thing that skews it is that Bethany isn't on Sundays from 10 to midnight anymore, nor is Dave Mandl. And Scott M., formerly one of those web-only morning shows, has not joined the Drummer stream yet either. Also, back then Pseu was playing lots of weird stuff mixed in with her pop, and now she's just pop (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Avatar 6:34pm

And we spent so much time together on Sunday in the phone room Parq. :-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
ɛɨk:

AFAIK both Bethany and Dave M. bailed out (for now) of their own volition so unlike what CoelØ (I think him first, before Fred joined in) implied, I don't think it's an intentional scheduling move by the station, just what the DJs happen to be doing or living or into.
Avatar 6:38pm
Carmichael:

He was on Colbert a few weeks ago. Odd, fun, inventive character.

@Ike: Yeah, J. Williger's set was what I needed this morning after the shitshow of a week I've had. We need to hear him again.
Avatar 🛎 6:46pm

Sort of like how the only decent club music we get these days is from Duane, Small Change, Jesse and Sam Segal when they feel like playing it. We lost a lot when /rupture and later Lamin left.

Holy smith, Thanks MAry!

Yeah Ike, wish he would have been given a 3 hour show more often. He did a lot like Jesse, field recordings, noise, avant guarde, ethnic folk, and club music of genres from around the world.
